I never considered this before. I always presumed that Anders was more like Garrus.

Also, Anders constantly tries to warn Hawke away from getting into a relationship with him. Whereas Liara encourages it at every opportunity she gets ;)

Except that the f***er goes full asshurt rivalry mode if you actually listen to his advice and ditch him. He's like Edward from Twilight, "NO BELLA WE CAN'T BE TOGETHER BUTIMUSTHAVEYOUNOW".

Not surprisingly, since his writer is a self-admitted twilight fan.

No, Anders is not Marie Sue and he's hilarious until you get to the romance and main plot. WTF ANDERS?!

Plot armor for Liara is thicker than frontal armor of M1 Abrams. That's for sure.

Somehow I fear plot armor will keep Liara alive throughout ME3, no matter what Shepard is doing. Don't have a problem with that, but if everyone else can die, Liara shouldn't be an exception.

People overuse "plot armor" a lot on here as if they're making some kind of point.

All of the female love interests in Mass Effects are varying degrees of bad.
Sad but true.
Dragon Age? Much better, generally speaking.

Ignore this, I completely interpreted the statement the wrong way.

Ill have to disagree with you somewhat. While ME2's romances arent all that special, at least they can make some kind of sense. Tali has a crush on you, Miranda just wants to have fun in the engine room, Thane wants comfort before h dies, etc. Each scenario can have more or less appeal for each of us but its not that hard to imagine a specific Shepard for each of them.

But some of the DA2 romances just dont have internal logic. How can you live in the same house with Anders or at least 3 years and not see him lose his sanity to Justice f ? Or why does it take 5 years for Fenris to change his mind about the romance? The problem isnt about how you enjoy or dislike a particular romantic scenario its really in the mecanics of it (how its implemented in the game).

Liara/ Anders are subtly implied to be the cannon LI.  Although more Liara then Anders in some ways IMO.

Anders? Canon LI? Would never guessed. And rather many people tell that it's a bad idea, including Anders himself. If anyone, closest DA2 character to Liara will be Varric - large plot relevance, plot armor, useful build.

And I don't see similarities between Liara and Anders - I hate them for different reasons, thanks.

Eh. Closest "default" LI would be Isabela. If anything, in a default import, Anders would be dead.

To be honest, I'd rather **** Varric than Liara. Liara's great, don't get me wrong, but Varric's just... well, Varric.

Liara and Anders are the same character! Both are in love with Shepard and Hawke no matter what you do as the player. You can reject tham but they NEVER JUST GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!

Discuss.

True, but Anders can be killed while Liara is pretty much invincible. Also, what Arcian said a few posts up.

Lol at the plot armor>Abrams armor. It just feels like Bioware is shoving Liara in our faces, and doubly so now ever since half the Liara fanbase dumped her for Tali.

"Plot armor" is not only overused, but misused in regards to Liara. The only plot armored squadmate so far has been Miranda.

Hmm, seems to be same issue with the VS. Plot armor is so thick in ME2 BW doesn't even dare to give us more interaction than Horizon + Mail Image IPB

The only real plot armor applies on Joker as far as I can see. He's essential for the entire story without being present all time.

Untrue. Liara definitely has plot armor, seeing that you can't put her in any situation more dangerous than toasting bread. You just can't kill her.

Yes you can kill Liara in Me2.

Just let the countdown to arrival occure. The Reapers wins and Liara dies.

Anders from Awakenings is NOTHING like Liara. Apart from perhaps a theme of vengeance. (Liara going after the shadowbroker. Anders' vengeance is more obvious Image IPB.)

Mind you, now I think about it, vengeance/justice seems to be a common theme in a heck of a lot of Bioware's characters.

Tali bores me sometimes and romancing her seems creepy, she's like the little sister of the ship

[quoteThere's more to being a damsel in distress than needing help, though. Otherwise ALL women (or even male) characters who needed help would be damsels.

A large part of the damsel-in-distress scenario depends on impotency and utter helplessness, both before and after the rescue. Women who are fighting, even a losing battle, don't apply. Nor do people able to help in their own support.
No! Just because you can put up a worthless struggle dosen't mean you arn't a damsel in distress. Peach can kick and scream and fiight back all she wants she still need saving from Mario so in essence she is still a damsel in distress.

Ashley can fight all she wanted in both Vermire and Eden Prime she still had to be saved. Meaning she is a damsel in distress.

AS she is
A) A Dame
B) Life threatening trouble.
C) Helpless

Until Shepard came she was cowering. Despite her mentality she is a damsel in distress three times.
Tali facing an ambush and throwing a grenade at her assassins is not a damsal role:
Again Tali would have died! Miss the countdown. Tail gets captured despite her fight.

Read the SB dossier and her convo with a broked. She didn't know what she was getting into.
or Liara nearly fainting after every joining, is a damsal role:
How is this a damsal in distress role. She get exhausted after joining she says it takes alot out of her to enter shepard's mind.

She is not even in distress!
Ashley was running, but she was also still fighting the Geth when we met her: our first real cutscene has her shooting a Geth drone down, after all. Only Horizon could count as a damsal role... except that Horizon was a context where EVERYONE without Seeker-protection was helpless, a point so general as to avoid specifity. If anyone was the damsal on Horizon, it was the colony itself.
Again fighting your attackers don't mean you don't need saving. She was fighting a LOOSING Battle she would have eventually died or get captured if Shepard didn't come to help her out.  Struggling a loosing battle still make you a damsel in distress. She was struggling but not winning she wasn't safe hence.

She justifies the damsel in distress position. Just as much as Tali and Liara.

There are no excueses if you need saving from a dier situation from the Main Hero and a female character. You are a damsel in distress.
