Exactly, any young gamer would prefer FO3 over FO1 and 2.

Yup.

Not any.  Most, yea, you'd be surprised though, there are a few Posted Image youngsters around.

Anyone who does the side quests in FO3 and says they suck, are daft.

I'll admit some of the quests had some flavor, but I already wrote out what my main beef with F3 was. I'll even forgive the goddamned FPS crap, let it be - but for the love of god Bethesda don't play it always safe all the time, and stop shoving Black and white morality systems where they don't fit.

Fallout 3 didn't make any sense and had so much crazy, random crap in it, it was hard to take seriously. There is nothing that would justify such a low level of civilization after so much time. Fallout 1 had a more civilized world than Fallout 3Posted Image

The series isn't so much about the post-apocalyptic theme itself, as it is the rebuilding of civilization and Fallout 3 didn't have any of that. I think Oblivion actually made more sense than Fallout 3.  Bethesda just likes throwing random sh!t in their games cause they think it sounds KOOL or something. Obsidian at least has the setting & quests make sense in relation to the world of Fallout and the general theme of the game.

The story is ok. The dlc what's really gold for me.

I absolutely adored Point Lookout, Operation Anchorage and The Pitt. Broken steel and mother ship zeta were meh for me.

The main plot in Fallout 3 was definitely not very well written. While I loved some of the sub/side plots, I actually thought the add-ons were lower quality than even the main plot. I could have died from boredom playing Point Lookout. The in-game depiction is even more boring than the actual park.

I admit I enjoyed the Tenpenny quest, where taking the do-gooder route ends in a massacre.

Well compared to the little amount I've gleaned from Fallout 2 (I've only gotten to Vault City) and Fallout New Vegas. The story seems about to break as much lore as BoS and is a dull as Tactics

Obsidian needs to work the main story and DLC stories and Bethesda needs to work the world and side quests.

(goes back to considering co-op in 4)

Fallout 3's main story was pretty meh, yeah. Seems to be a thing with Bethesda games (Skyrim's main plot was boring as hell too).

I enjoyed Fallout 3 greatly, but it really didn't have to do with the story. It was more about the world, the game mechanics, fairly open exploration, and the atmosphere. I could probably say the same regarding Mass Effect, Secret of Mana, and a load of other games I'd put down as favorites.

It was alright in story - I'd never played the first 2, so the purifying water stuff didn't feel redundant. Some of the quests were memorable i.e. the comic book ones, republic of dave, cannibals "lite", and of course nuking megatown.

Nobody plays it for the story.

Bethesda games are all about user-made beauty and nudie mods.

Lol

Bethesda is scale over detail to the extreme. That and scenery porn.

While I think NV was a better game, I felt 3 had a better main questline because you had more involvement personally in it. Also, Liam Neeson was in it.

NV was definitely the better of the two games.

Agreed. Dressing up as a feral ghoul and committing hotel wide genocide, and still getting to play the "good" guy was fairly f-in epic.

Fallout 3 blows.

It is a pale shadow of FO and FO2.

It's not the story itself, but the presentation. It's not even truly Bethesda's fault - or a fault to begin with.

The problem with their open world titles is, that it is simply impossible to create any kind of suspense while also granting the player infinite freedom to do anything all the time. No cutscenes, no forced sense of place, no automatic drama. It's all in your head - or it isn't.

@Han Shot First
Aww, come on. Yes, it's not the west coast and a bit too self-serious at times, but especially as a fellow FO1+2 veteran, you have to hand it to Bethesda: The idea to merge the franchise with their inhouse open world approach both saved and preserved the franchise. Personally, it may have omitted some things I would have liked to see, but at the same time they also didn't do anything heretically wrong.

As much as I love FONV even more, my biggest complaint with it was that it seems Obsidian feared trying basically anything new on their own.

I love how everybody always makes excuses for Bethesda. It's impossible to have a good story or writing in an open world game....now it's impossible to create any sense of suspense.. That's just nonsense. You don't need these long drawn out cut scenes to achieve such things, it's just that Bethesda can't pull it off.

The only credit I give to them/F3, is that it made New Vegas possible.
