It's there in the background. Ashley, the hanar's enkindlers, Thane's polytheism, the quarians have something (I think), the asari have their goddess, the turian's have something in the codex, the salarians have something similar to hinduism's wheel of life I believe...

It's all there with as much screen time as it should have. Enough to give a bit more life and background to the different races, but not so much in that it's not shoved down your throat.

It's natural that in the future religion play a very small role in any civilized society... so it's safe to assume it died out in Mass Effect.

Why? Nearly every other alien race has a major religion or belief and humanity's religion isn't entirely incompatible with the possibility of alien life. Sorry religion will be here for a very long time.

Doesn't the existence of the proteans and the mass relays and the citadel completely destroy the theory of creationism in the mass effect universe?

To be fair, the Catholic Church stopped teaching creationism about 60 years ago.

Heh heh, that's not true at all, I went to a catholic primary school and was taught the story of creationism.

It wasn't like that when Iwent to a catholic K-8,  they taught biblical creation stories in religion class, and evolution in life science class.

This except K - 9 and I was an open atheist by 9th. And Evolution is even accepted by the Vatican..

Oh well of course this wasn't science class we're talking about here. I'm talking about primary school, you don't get separate subject classes in the UK untill secondary school (that would be a combination of middle school and high school if your thinking in american terms) although I was catholic up untill the age of about 14 and I do remember them preaching creationism in the church.

Then again I haven't been to mass in years so it probably has changed.

I hope that they died out, having faith and believing in something it's ok... but organized religions have been always a factory of hate, bigotry, irrational fear, and death.

Done what? Made a thread that has barely broke 2 pages? This really hasn't gotten to the level of the some of the really large flame worthy threads.

Yeah you really should not have posted that. Its bordering on thread derailment since people WILL have strong feelings about that statement and argue endlessly about it.

IIRC, religion is nowhere near as big as it used to be due to the discovery of all those other species, which fundamentally changed the image of humanity as the crown of creation. Or something like that. Scientific advancements probably also have something to do with it. In all honesty though, I believe the main reason that there's hardly any mention is that Bioware doesn't want to really handle that topic. It's kinda volatile.

No I but I have a feeling where this is going. I just asked a simple question and had it answered. I thank those who actually help answering question.

People never seem to get this through their thick skulls, so might as well enjoy the flame wars.

Pretty much this.  This thread's done a good job so far at explaining how religion's been working out in Mass Effect so far.
