The BSN moderators seem to be more generous than these other forums. Still, all I can say is, I'm glad I have no interest in BF3 or SWTOR.

I'm not surprised. Not even a little bit. Typical EA.

Of course the only way EA is going to take any of you seriously is if all of us start voting with our wallets.

Personally ME2 was the last EA game I'm ever buying.

There couldn't be a worse match in the industry than Bioware and EA. It's like McDonald's buying 11 Madison Park. Bio was dead before the ink dried on the deal.

Bioware has nothing to do with this, other than EA blocking out people who bought BW games. EA may be your publisher Bioware, but how could you let them get away with banning people from playing games/DLC theyy legally and lawfully bought from you that you as a developer made yourself?

Something extremely wrong is going on here, and I don't like it one bit. The forums should stay seperate from the games as they have always been.

But you know ... EA isn't just a Bioware's publisher. EA is Bioware's owner. Bioware is EA.

EA guy A: Damn, we've been getting a lot of bad rep over DRM and terms of use with our Origins service.
EA Guy B; I know right, especially that guy who accidentally lost access to his game over a forum ban.

A few minutes later...

EA Guy A: Hold on a second! Someone just posted about teabagging!
EA Guy B; The shock. The horror. Oh I think I might faint, get me some smelling salts.
*Faints*
EA Guy A: Alright, stay calm, remember what the PR people said...damn, its not working.
*RAGEBANNED*

Also the obvious solution is to only buy physical copies of your games, or at least buy from Steam. The worst thing EA can do to me is disable my DAO dlc's for the PC. Not that it'd have any effect, as getting the bloody things to work properly should have at least got me knighted, and if they did I could just play them on my 360.

People complain about consoles causing the downfall of PC gaming. I say blame EULA and DRM. If I can freely get a game for a console, that I can take to a mates house to play, or if I have to buy one from an iffy online service where I am limited in the number of installs I can perform, and where EA has the right to remove my property whenever they want? I think I'll take the former.

In the event that you can't control the language you use while posting of course.

Didn't read the article, eh?

I'm not surprised considering the Origin account (aka. the old EA account) is tied up to everything. It's the same account for activating a single player game, to authorizing DLC, to multiplayer use, to forum posting, to stat tracking, to contests and prize giveaways. Too many things depend on the one account that I don't see the system operating well enough to not trip over itself regardless of how much EA claims that they are capable of keeping everything independent.

However, if the whole "We already reviewed your case and still say you're banned even though this is the first time you've challenged the ruling" is true, then that would raise my eyebrow and give a good ol' Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is going on now moment. Of course, having customer support based off a script vs. actual problem solving support never helps.

I don't get it. What is with EA? Have a hard time buying future EA games if this continues. Sadly, that includes Bioware now. Get your act straight EA!

EA are cruising for a class-action lawsuit here...

That, and at the risk of my own ban, Mr. Woo is a fascist.... and whomever reported the comment, themselves, are pathetic. Are we not allowed dissenting opinions!? I guess not.

(I guess it's a good thing I stopped playing EA games lol).

What else is there to explain?

EA owns Bioware. People in Bioware's forums are expected to follow both Bioware Community AND EA forums' rules.

You lose your games on Origin and/or your registered DLCs if you get banned in either EA or Bioware's forums. It is that simple.

This is one more reason that you should NOT buy any Bioware games from Origin. So when EA decides to ban you, at least you can still play your games without the DLCs.

No idea what are you trying to say here. Bioware games == EA games same as other games like The Sims, Fifa ... etc.

Bioware is now part of EA, one of EA's developers studios.
May i quote something for you from the EA's website ?

In addition, EA has worldwide studios in the following locations:
[...]
Canada:
Bioware (Edmonton)

Now this is one of the reasons I don't participate in all the Origin and Steam sh*t. I just buy myself a hard copy of the games...it might involves some disc-switching, allright, but I'd rather mess around with discs than to be constantly afraid of getting my account banned, thus losing any way to play my games anymore. This is yet another foul trick of EA. I've decided, I'm done with buying your games, you bastards...you've made a fool of yourselves and continue losing your customer's trust...just know that in the end, when you got no customers left, there won't be any more money for you to milk out of them...sorry for being so blunt here, but all of this is making me really angry...

One advice for you all out there: buy hardcopy discs. It will save you a lot of trouble.

RPS got an initial response from an EA rep, and has posted it with commentary.

For the last week I’ve been sending quite a few emails to various people within EA, trying to get to the bottom of why gamers receiving forum bans are finding they do not have access to their Origin online gaming. My goal has been to get a clear understanding of their current policy on the matter, since the company’s actions don’t appear to match the statements made in 2008, and March this year....

John Reseburg, of EA’s Corporate Communications, contacted me overnight with a statement.

The statement from Reseburg:

With every game and service EA offers, we take the satisfaction of our customers very seriously. We discourage cheating and strive to maintain a high level of integrity in both our games and our forums. Therefore when someone violates our Terms of Service, we are forced to take actions that can include suspensions and other measures. We do not take those decisions lightly – however the integrity of our services and the satisfaction of our customers requires a clear set of rules. We have listened to our customers and are planning a policy update which will include more equitable rules on suspensions – we want to make sure the time fits the crime. As with all technology updates, these changes take some time to implement. Meanwhile, we urge any user with a question about suspensions or our policies to please contact us at (866) 543-5435 so we can address their specific situation.

RPS writes:

But of course the current problem remains: the implicit suggestion that it is their policy to ban from games for forum violations after all. So what was March all about? I’ve responded to all involved at EA asking if we can just get a clear reply explaining what their current policy is. If it is the case, right now, that misbehaving on forums affects your Origin gaming, then we desperately want to be able to warn you about that, not least because we assured you the opposite eight months ago when EA told us that. I think it would be safe to say that were this EA’s current policy, we would strongly advise our readers to go nowhere near EA’s forums for fear of an errant ban directly affecting their ability to play games they have purchased. For now, until I receive clarification, I think we have to assume this is the case.

Except for when you use perfectly suitable language and someone reports your post merely because they don't like the content, and your account ends up with automated black marks.

There is no such thing as a "hard copy" any more.  All of them require online activation and most require some sort of periodic check to make sure you're still activated.

My preorder special edition of NFS The Run just arrived, the game page did not mention any need for origin, but I just looked at the back and it says 'INSTALLATION OF THE ORIGIN CLIENT SOFTWARE AND REGISTRATION REQUIRED TO PLAY.'

I suppose I was always going to have to install it.

:(

Except the reports bypass the forum moderators and go directly to EA. When you click the report button, someone at EA recieves the notice and they evaluate the post for content. Stanley has asked people not to use the report funcion before and instead email a forum mod to take care of any issues. So let's stop with the ridiculous accusations, shall we?
