Complete description:
Well, I'm sure we're all relatively familiar with this problem now, but for the sake of explaining I'll detail it.About two weeks ago I bought DA:O - UE on Steam - I've already played the Origins campaign but I wanted to play the DLC and this was the cheapest way to get it all. I slowly downloaded the 24gb of required files and booted it up.
First issue was with authentication of the DLC. I am still unable to log in to the DA servers but that's irrelevant here - I have a workaround for that. After a week and a half of painful dealings with EA that I'm sure would have made my hair white if I let it get to me, I fixed that issue myself.
So I got stuck in to Awakening with my OC from Origins, and all was fine and good. First inkling of any problems there was when I traipsed into the silverite mine in the Wending Wood - after the cutscenes with the Architect, I lost all my armour and items I was currently wearing. I lost two hours of play trying to get it back and I gave up on it in the end.
I decided that I'd had enough of that for now and turned to play something else. Leliana's Song seemed good, so I booted it up... But no, I got the infamous "Unable to load module." "Strange," I thought, "everything else seems to work." I then tried in quick succession every other campaign I had installed, and found that Witch Hunt also does not work.
This really bothered me so I jumped back into Origins with a new character, thinking I'd try playing around with the Feastday stuff and the Blood Dragon armour and all that. Surprise, surprise - none of it showed in game. In my journal in-game, I'm entitled to all of this and it's all enabled and I have it in game but it's just not showing.
Frustrated, I turned to EA support, who shoved me off after about 15 minutes of polite but annoyed questioning. They told me to reinstall the whole game. If worst comes to worst I'll do that, but our internet isn't the best - it will take me almost a week to download it so that it doesn't affect the other people in my flat.
Things I have tried:
- Yes, I redeemed my DLC code. My DLC is correctly added to my account. I am unable to log in to the DA servers, so I edited my AddIns.xml file as advised by EA customer support so that this wouldn't be an issue - the DAO servers flat-out refuse to let me log in, I just get "System error. If the problem persists contact EA support for assistance." I tried reverting it to the original RequiresAuthorization="1", but that didn't fix the problem - I still got the error message.
- Some people on here suggested copying singleplayer.cif from the install directory to the docs folder. It should be noted I don't have a Modules/Single Player folder in my docs, in fact I don't have a Modules folder there at all.
- I tried a bunch of things with the updater service - stopping it, deleting files, restarting it, the usual. None of that did me any good, it didn't fix anything at least.
- I removed the HD textures I had to see if that would fix the problem, but as expected it didn't.
- I found a thread suggesting using the 1.05b patches, and saying they will fix authentication problems. I think that might fix my problem, but unfortunately I'm using the Steam version so that's a no-go.
EDIT:
Just tried to play Witch Hunt, but I'm getting the "Unable to load area" problem when I import a character.
