I just saw a listing for ME3 on Direct 2 Drive. I thought EA wasn't releasing it for sale by other online vendors. Maybe this means Origin will not be required to install it? I don't know if Steam has access to it as well (not that I'd get it through Steam anyway).

Bioware did its damn best to make it like a war we cannot win which should be expected because in each Mass Effect game we are told how ****ing powerful the Reapers are. If Bioware doesn't show this in ME3 (which they kind of already have) I would be dissapointed and so would a lot of fans.Total Biscuit wrote...
For crying out loud, it's a game, something you play for fun, not a real war!
So what you think Earth getting attacked and billions of humans dying is part of the happy go lucky ending? Sorry but Bioware has started us off with Earth being loss. Hell this really isn't just about saving Earth anymore its about surviving. Even SHEPARD says that in the leaked beta. This isn't about being masochistic this is just being realistic and it helps one immerse themselves into the story. Seriously what is so hard to understand about that? And as I said before, if you wan, t a sucky bittersweet ending where poeple get killed left right and centre, then yeah, you should be able to get it by ****ing up enough, but for those of us who don't have a masochistic need to be edgy and feel miserable so we can act like we're better than the rest of the world who like normal happy endings, there should also be an ending that doesn't insist on kicking you in the bollocks as a parting gift.
Who the hell said that I know I didn't. A suicide mission against the Collectors is a lot different than a Galactic war against beings who have been destroying civilizations for possibly billions of years. Wouldn't you want to actually feel like you are fighting beings that are that powerful? The last thing I want to feel when I finish this game is anger at some stupid forced plot twist that makes any conclusion a choice between the least annoying options, because no matter what I choose, I'll still be annoyed by it. It's like all the poeple complaining about getiing everyone through the suicide mission was unrealistic.
This is already a Pyrrhic victory. Seriously did you ignore the fact that not just one but 2 council homeworlds have been attacked in the opening stages of the war? Palaven and Earth is being attacked and the Batarians could be on their way to extinction. No matter how it ends it is already a pyrrhic victory.A pyrrhic victory just for the sake of false drama is not good writing, and the vast majority of people don't enjoy the bummed out feeling they leave you with.
Life around the galaxy surviving is happy enough for me. Seriously the only way we get a completely happy ending is if the Reapers are no more powerful than your average Citadel ship and it just takes a few fleets from a few races to deal with them. Honestly that would ****** me off since the Reapers are shown to literally be the top of the food chain. Now to show them as a powerful force you would have to show them utterly destroying every single thing we throw at them and then some. There is a reason the vast majority of fiction ends happily, it's because that's what the vast majority of poeple like, it's what we've evolved to like infact, and is a fundamental part of how we learn through teaching, it's hard wired into our neuro chemistry.
I seriously cannot comprehend why people are insisting everyone should have to feel unhappy at the end of a game series we've all invested an enourmous amount of time and emotion in.
The hell are you talking about? I'll feel happy because bioware has not dissappointed me. I would have actually felt like I'm fighting some ancient terror from the abyss and that I have actually succeeded in saving a good portion of the Galaxy althoug with many losses.

The fact that the game is available from other digital retailers does not mean that it will not use Origin after all Battlefield 3 is available for purchase from several digital stores and it requires the installation of Origin no matter how or where you buy it from.

Honestly, it makes people sound really pathetic. I know some of your lives may be crappy (sorry
Especially not ME3. Victory must come with a price when you're fighting the reapers.

What I don't want from my games is a struggle.
Some people seem to want nothing but struggle and tainted, phyrric victories from their games.

You're right. I was hopeful that EA was going easy on their whole invasioin deal with Origin since it seemed as though you were getting the digital version through them or heading to the store for the box version. Ah well.
EDIT: I wasn't aware of Battlefield 3. Then again, my interests aren't in games of the genre BF3 resides.

That's not to say that the ending will be completely terrible. Unless you purposely screw up you'll still win the war, just with a major loss of (apparently) your choice.

They hyped the Reapers too much. To have them be completely owned in one of the endings would be a major disservice to the story. Sacrifices must be made to have a believable story. There are other games that can have completely happy endings. Like Zelda or Dragon Quest. ME3 should not be one of them.

Billions of people all over the Galaxy have been killed in the opening stages of the conflict. There has already been sacrifice. Hell Shepard expects that Half the known Galaxy will be wrecked due to this war.

This is also true with character deaths, its one thing to try and show just how dangerous a situation your in, its another to force choices that are basically non choices in order to kill off characters, or to make the field so unlevel in terms of who lives or dies based not on how we play but on some random formula that they've worked out based on who they think people like.
Its things like that which end up frustrating and completely breaking immersion that we're in a fight to the death and that we may not make it out unscathed.
You can instill drama and create tension way better than most of the scenario's they seem to have come up with both in terms of which characters could live or die and why and in the overall narrative itself.
But then to top everything off they come up with some of the most ridicolous endgame scenarios that offer up no real sense of accomplishment anyway, which considering that we're not just finishing a game but a trilogy really does smack of a lack of inspiration and a desperate attempt to appear edgy and different.
I can live with characters dying when it makes some sort of sense and it affects every character equally, but when the game itself is almost telling you which character's fate your supposed to care about and which one you really should sacrifice, that's not dramatic that's just incredibly bad writing.

Alternatively go to D2D's website and search for Mass Effect 3 and you will find the DDE version is being offered for sale. I understand where you are coming from I too was skeptical that D2D was selling the DDE version since I was under the impression it was an Origin "exclusive". However from what I have seen it looks likely that D2D are selling the DDE version.

no, what Ray is doing is damage control. nothing really will change. i'm sure it will all look very pretty (and shiny!) but for the most part, the main plot is what we all read in the leak. and thats the truth.

im pretty certain that before any of the art team start with designs and things, a basic outline of all the areas, locations and characters is formulated and set in stone. This avoids people on your team wasting hours and hours on something just for it to get changed/scraped etc during a re-write process.

Agreed. But you have to admit, pretty and shiny goes a long way.

I guess what all this comes down to is a theme that I made at a panel I hosted at "GeekGirlCon". So many people have opinions but don't voice them, especially when it's a good one. Prior to working at BioWare, I was a forum lurker. Read stuff but never directly engaged. Thus my opinion and my voice was never heard. This is something I think needs to change in fandom if we want supportive communities. Make your voice heard. I should make a forum post about this...
To go back on topic (don't want to have to ban myself!) I would say that the dev team is not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
BIOWARE MAKES THE BEST GAMES EVER. BECAUSE I WROTE IT, AND ITS THE TRUTH!

QFT. It's not feasible for them to do a re-write at this stage, because that would mean scrapping existing voice-acting, cinematography, writing, and other non-cheap things.

The idea is that if you tried so hard to keep all crew members alive..shouldn't they reward you, why would they sacrifice your hard work instead of rewarding you for it? That makes preparing for the suicide mission pointless because they will die off anyways. This is just from the perspective that I think they will kill characters to tug at your heart.
Another thing is..
Like, if you love Tali and Garrus but you hate Jack and Miranda, and they put you in a situation where Tali or Garrus would survive by your choice.. wouldn't that be unfair because you don't give a crap if Miranda replaced one of the two and she would be dead. And if that formula was continued through out the game, you would have half your favorite squad members dead while the other ones are alive and you could care less.. I'm not saying that is in the game, but I don't think it would be a good idea to force character deaths in that way even if it is to 'make you cry'. I'm not saying I want the "save the universe and everyone survives so happy ending' to be mandatory but just like the suicide mission, if you worked your butt off for it, you should be rewarded while other players who could care less can get their characters killed off to have their type of satisfactory ending. Ah, well. I might be in the wrong topic but I hope they take my opinion. Make DLC to further story arcs with each character (including their romance if needed).. Oooh, so many opinions.
