I just downloaded my origin copy of Mass Effect 2 onto my laptop. The game runs fine: combat is smooth as well as dialogue. I paused the game in the middle of the station and the game crashed. Thinking it was a temporary issue, I restarted Mass Effect 2. The same problem occured in different areas of the game. I rebooted my computer, updated my drivers, ran it in safe mode, and still the game would crash. I am running it with an Intel quad core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00 GHZ, a nVidia GeForce GT 555M, 8 GB RAM, and Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Oh sorry, didn't see that before. The bug occurs with or without patch 1.02. I use DirectX 10. The sound adapter is a realtek audio HD adapter, using driver version 6.0.1.6339. However, there seems to be an error with showing the VRAM, display adapter, video driver version in the configure menu. It lists an impossible negative value for VRAM, which is 1696 MB in my case, nothing for the driver version, and merely Intel HD family for display adapter.

You have to get into setup and shut the IGP off in there; the thing is grabbing the system and won't turn loose.  It's very common among optimus laptops.  You may have to eliminate it in Device Manager, or alter the properties of the exe file's shortcut (in the driver selections nVIDIA offers).  I don't know why nVIDIA can't get this right.

Tried that. Can't seem to find the IGP in setup. Any hints on any other locations it might be?

IGP that Gorath is referring to is the Intel Graphics Processor, and I would assume he is talking about turning it off in Windows setup, not ME2.
Nvidia have always had problems with their drivers supporting older games, as they seem to think noone will want to play a game thats more than a year old. Updating your video drivers can cause more problems for ME2 than it will fix. I would suggest uninstalling the new drivers, and installing the release drivers, which are revision 270.xx. The latest drivers which we consider to be stable for ME2 are actually the 258.xx revision, which arent supported by your card.

I would also advise you download the latest Realtek driver from either Realtek, or your laptop manufacturers website, as the one that comes with Win7 is as buggy as hell, and causes all sorts of problems.

Also, are you running the game in XP compatibility mode, and with admin rights?

I can't access the IGP from setup, and therein lies the problem. After a little research, it seem that the option does not exist on the Lenovo Ideapad 570. Currently trying to run the game with a 258.xx driver

I had a problem with similar symptoms. The game worked fine, but when I pressed esc to pause the game, it crashed. It was a problem with the driver for my Intel video card. I had to revert to an older version. This may help you too. Look for my post in this thread: http://social.biowar.../index/8625053/

Intel's video is sub-optimal; the game cannot run as designed on a quarter power device such as that chip is. Bethesda specifically named Intel and S3 IGPs as excluded from support. Overall, the Intel Corporation is antagonistic toward game developers and game players.

It will be at least another two or three years before Intel finally meets the standards of 2008 / 2009, by which time the gaming industry will be doing all new things that Intel still won't be able to match.

For the present, when it comes to system requirements and laptops as a general class, the reference is
