I would lose faith in humanity to know that something as irrelevant on that scale as the winner of a VG award caused someone else to lose faith in humanity.

He is correct. Without qualifying information, text is a horrible medium to convey tone and intent.

LOL anyone even pay attention to the spike awards after the debacle last year? Seriously this whole list is pathetic. DX:HR is more of a shooter with RPG elements in it and they put Skyward Sword in the game of the year ballot when its not even out yet.

Skyrim and Batman will be very close in the end. I actually put my vote in Batman... Skyrim is wonderful but Batmans just a little better in my book.

I remember the first two or three Spike Video game awards. I remember they were all about music videos less games and watching that totally rad dude Tony Hawk doing totally rad things maaaaann. Then the next year it was all about Gangster Rappers and I gave up. I remember the forced advertising the PSP .... Gods

Batman was more then beautiful it was actual Art. From the moment you done the suit and then look out into the city it just reeked of how amazing and how much hard work they put into this game. However Skyrim is just massive I don't think both of those games can be compared fairly.

Dragon Age 2 is a game that was rush released all the DLC promised for Origins was halted so we can have Dragon Age II come quicker and what we got was a nightmare. I think even the people here holding their tongue on the game see it even in this game catorgory as offensive. I know Laidlow and Gaidor are smiling devising a way to twist the series more. Which reminds me I have rubber sex dolls to collect in Saints Row.

DA2 was an okay game. It certainly wasn't as good as DA:O but on it's own it was okay.
Still, I never had much respect for the VGA's anyway. And even then, I don't think there were that many RPGs that came out this year.

Xenoblade Chronicles deserves at least second place. It is literally the best jRPG to be released in the past ten years.

Skyrim will take the cake, though. It's just the 800 ton gorilla in the room.

DA2 was way better than Skyrim. DA2 should be game of the year.

Just kidding. I'm not too surprised it was nominated. While it was not as good as other Bioware games (though I still think it's better than DA:O), it wasn't that bad of a game.

Never followed Two Worlds

So the only RPGs that I thought of was Skyrim, Witcher II, Deus Ex: HR, Dark Souls, and DA II.

Well minus this forum and metacritic the game was well recieved and liked. And given all the problems I've read in reviews from Deus Ex, if it can be on the list why not DA2?

And sorry Bioware, I had to vote for Skyrim on this.

Seriously we all know Skyrim will win

It's funny Square Enix though has to buy studios now to have a hit because of their design teams totally go against what the public wants. Seriously though Dragon Age II's sales were crap there sales were best with the preorders who thought the game was going to be like Origins.

Skimrim will win for rpg. Zelda is the critically the best game from the last couple of years but it hasn't even been released yet and probably shouldn't be on the list of nominees. Remember during the PSX/N64 era when there were enough titles in all genres to make a decent action/rpg category or adventure category?

Depends on who you ask. The original was never marketed or intended to be an RPG AFAIR, it just happened to share certain design principles that good RPGs have (freedom of approach, consequences to choices, etc).

As for Dragon Age 2 nominated for RPG of the Year... meh. Each category has four nominees and you tell me what high profile, AAA, console centric RPGs came out this year? Games like W2 and DE: HR already bend the mechanical limits of the genre, and W2 isn't on consoles (yet). So, what else was there? Slow year for RPGs.

Though I would've loved for them to have some balls and put in some of the EA Sports games for RPG of the year. Those Sports games in Career Mode and stuff are basically Action RPGs that just happen to be about Sports.
