There isn't a character not explicitly manufactured for geek appeal. You're kidding yourselves if you believe otherwise.PrinceLionheart wrote...

Since I've been on the BSN those former three bases have seemed a lot more prominent actually.Dariustwinblade wrote...

Obviously there some sort of "geek appeal" in every romance, but no where in Ashley's romance did she ever come across as co-dependent on Shep or act like she was about to jump Shepard's bones. At least, no where in ME1.

Liara.
Liara.
Tali.
Jack.
Liara.
Jack.
Tali.
Jack.
Jack it is.
Flip a coin.
If not romance them both, have a save for Tali and a save for Liara. Win win.

She's also the first damsel in distress that Shepard in Shining Armour rescues in ME1.

I thought Ash was flirtier with Shepard than Liara was?
I don't really know...I don't play ManShep. But that's what I've heard.

Shepard has to save Ashley's sorry ass THREE TIMES. That more than Liara.
She was a damsel in distress for three times in the game.
Liara's also saves Shepard twice! That more than anyone can say about themselves.

Go with Liara. Tali is a hypocrite and a liar, and a little bit self-absorbed.
I personally find the person who's willing to sacrifice everything for the good of her people to be anything but self-absorbed.
Feel free to point out when and how she's a hypocrite too.

ME3 spoilers are involved. Though I suppose I could point it out in ME2 as well.
Tali is willing to justify her father's actions on the basis that he wanted what was best for his people. Towards that end she asks Shepard to cover-up his crimes to protect his reputation. However she openly mocks Daro'Xen for having an attitude identical to her father's only with the added benefit of patience and care. This despite even knowing that her father wanted the data given to Admiral Xen.

Because a character's views can never change or be altered because of emotional moments.
How did her view change? Her antagonism to Daro'Xen remains consistent even after she covers for her father.
She's a hypocrite and yes, a liar (but that's a spoiler!)
I don't like Tali anymore. Though at least she is better written than Liara so if you like good writing then go with Tali. Otherwise go with Liara.

Xen is crazy, that's why Tali is hostile towards her. Because Xen is jeopardizing a potential alliance between the quarians and the geth because she sees the geth as nothing but machines.
Tali simply got a moment to think over some things after the trial and then decided that she couldn't let the action of her father bring her down too. At the time, she wasn't really sure what was the right action.
When a character can shrug off anything without showing any sort of affection at the time or makes a jarring change (like how Liara went from a unsocial and somewhat insecure researcher to a top leveled information broker in less than two years) and then marks that as some form of character development, that's bad writing.

None of that makes her crazy. The geth ARE machines. Actually, they are less than that. Geth are just computer code. Xen is far from crazy, she is in fact the opposite. She offers the most pragmatic and beneficial strategy for her people.

Uh huh. I guess that's why she went back and confessed her father's crimes. My mistake. Oh wait, that never happened!
Now I agree that Liara's writing is terrible and Tali's for the most part is good. However it does make Tali out to be a rather hmm.... what is the right word? Unfair? She loves her father so she'll make apologies for his zeal but she doesn't love Xen so Xen is just "crazy".
Tali is a ****.
