So, what about Michael Beattie? (Mordin's voice actor)

I said it about a dozen times already... if BioWare replaces Micheal Beattie it'd be like Chris Nolan replacing Heath Ledger for Batman 3.

This guy easily had the best VO performance. Him not coming back would be detrimental to my enjoyment of the Mass Effect 3 experience as well as that of many other fans I assume.

I will not be cancelling my pre-order until I know for sure, but this isn't looking too good. If BioWare dropped Beattie simply because he asked for more money, then that is bulls*** on BioWare's part. You didn't have the extra money to bring back the man who made Mordin so well-loved by fans, but you did have enough dev money to put in a MP component to ME3? REALLY? If Beattie is not brought back, I will boycott ME3 and I ask all Mordin fans to do the same.

Damn you're a loser.

Are you serious?

He does make a good point. The only reason they wasted time and money on a senseless MP mode was so they could draw in some of the Gears of War and Battlefield and other shooter fans at the expense of the existing fanbase. I don't know whether Beattie asked for more money or not but it would have been an investment a million times better than multiplayer modes.....not to mention Kinect....an even more despicable waste.

Let's all try to remember, folks, that there's still a sliver of hope left regardless. Beattie thinks he won't be back, and he's obviously going to be going off of years of experience in the field, but BioWare still has a couple of months left to feasibly call him in depending on how they're running things.

Ditching established VAs who want to come back, and then wasting resources on things like MP, online play, Kinect, etc... would be pretty damning evidence of EA's influence on ME3.

I've seen people cancel their pre-orders for less.

Which makes me wonder why they even pre-ordered in the first place.

I hope for Biowares sake they respond to this thread and rectify the problem asap. It's unacceptable quite frankly.

As much as I would love to see BioWare give us a direct response, and still keep my fingers crossed that it will happen and happen soon, the reality of the matter is that these sorts of contract-binding dealios in the business world are often very hush-hush. There is a slim chance that BioWare fully intends to contact Michael Beattie sometime in the coming weeks but still cannot comment on the matter as they haven't bothered reaching out to him yet and as such cannot legally reference an agreement that has not been made.

Why couldn't they say "we intend to try"?

They can't give their official word until they have announced the VA list. They still havn't officially announced Clint Mansell as composer so I doubt we'll know for sure until maybe February.

Voice acting is usually the last thing that goes into the game, so there's plenty of time left.

They hired Keith David only a few months before ME2's release as well.

I hope that because of his role within ME3 they are still perfecting the script and will contact him nearer completion! I HOPE

Because technical jargon.

No, really, I don't know. And there's always the distinct possibility they're allowed to say that. I really haven't familiarized myself with BioWare's general policies on these matters. I've always been content with how (relatively) good they are about getting the band back.

How many hours of actual voice would we expect to see a major NPC have in a game like ME3?  Once their script is actually done and set, wouldn't most of them be able to do their voice acting in under a week?

Yeah, it should go on for about that long. It's even easier if they already know what their character sounds like, which most of the voice actors do.

That's quite blunt, but also accurate.  The thing is, people can pretend that withholding their money for a mainstream product will make a difference, but in reality the only thing they are affecting is themselves.  The only outcome of someone not purchasing ME3 will be: that person doesn't get to own ME3.  You will not make a dent on EA's sales figures.  The only possible way you could make a dent is to have an organized movement convincing people not to buy ME3, and the only way to get one of those is to capitalize on a large disgruntled fanbase.  There is no such large disgruntled fanbase, and no a few loud voices on the Bioware Forums don't count; in general, the Mass Effect fanbase is expanding and pretty much every single fan of the series is looking foward to the third installment.

And this is off topic, but StephanieBengal, you wouldn't happen to be a Cincy Bengals fan would you?  I myself am from Cincinnati and couldn't be happier with our first Palmerless season.  Who dey!

That's not entirely accurate. Loss of sales can cause an impact on EA but you need a large number of fans to go along with it.....like the way the PC gamers have recently rejected EA's Origin spyware program that led to mass outrage in germany and allowed opened copies with used activation keys of Battlefield 3 to be returned. The game's Amazon ratings have plummeted and overall I can guarantee you that EA HAS suffered losses.

Now will changing Mordin's voice actor have that kind of effect? Not really....a few may not buy but the majority will still purchase. But if BioWare requires PC gamers to install and run Origin(spyware) in order to play Mass Effect 3 the way EA did with Bttlefield 3 in combination with the ruining of Mordin's charactter then you may just see a substantial enough fan lashback that EA's profits will hurt.

Spyware?

It's an excuse for being able to say "That's it, I'm cancelling my preorder" as soon as something happens that they don't like.

Which is almost everything that happens because no story is going to progress along their preconceived notions of "this is what should happen" unless they're in the writing department... Which they're not.

What's even more baffling is people getting mad about things they have no idea about (id est multiplayer). They're simply assuming the worst and jumping ship.

What makes you think he asked for more money?

We don't know anything about reasons for Bioware not calling him to do Mordin voice yet.

And having money for MP argument is BS, since that money is used from different studio.

I pre-ordered because I had confidence in BioWare. A confidence that may have been misplaced. Also, insulting me for taking a stand on this issue? classy. I can buy the SE used, too. That's another option. Choke down the Sur'Kesh mission just to see how my Shepard's story ends then trade it back in. BioWare doesn't get a dime. That's only if Beattie doesn't return. For now my pre-order stays put.
