So, what about Michael Beattie? (Mordin's voice actor)

I may have to go back through my ME2 playthroughs and get Mordin killed just so I don't have to experience any imposter Mordin dialogue.Terror_K wrote...
I think I'd rather they just have some new salarian character for the Sur'kesh stuff in ME3 than have Mordin's voice actor replaced personally.

Eh. I love Mordin too but maybe it won't be as bad as were making out. The new VA might even be good! [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/surprised.png[/smilie]
But ... it won't be Mordin!

I'm sorry Beattie. We tried..
Indeed.
I'm not throwing away my banner yet, though. Gonna rock Beattie-steady for a while, methinks.

Good or not, the question is "why has he been replaced?" and whether that answer is satisfactory. It's clearly not because Beattie isn't interested in the role, because it's pretty clear that he is. And I think BioWare already know that budget reasons aren't going to fly with a group of fans who already question their spending on certain aspects as it is. If they really just think that a cheap replacement will do and that not enough people will notice, then I think any last lingering threads of respect for BioWare I have would ne severed.
Again, this is assuming that he's been replaced.

I reached out to Mr. Woo for confirmation a few moments ago, complete with an obligatory "I fully understand there's a good chance you can't officially answer this question, but if you've already technically revealed the truth, can I get that confirmation?"
Fingers crossed he can clarify. Though I'm not sure whether an admission of replacement that would give closure would be better than a vague response that basically says "you read too much into what I said, and I can't say either way"

The only reason that I can come up with other than issues between BW and MB is that they wanted him to sound older, which I'd say the beta Mordin does; after all, Mordin is in the latter stages of his life. And to be fair whoever VO'd him did a good job.
That said, I will severely miss Beattie if he doesn't reappear in ME3.

Considering the game isn't supposed to take long after ME2, I don't see why. I know salarians age faster and all, but still. And in either case, why not just ask Beattie to come in and do a slightly different take on it and explain that they want Mordin to sound older? Voice actors are asked to do that type of thing all the time.

Maybe he got sick? But yeah, I know, it's far-fetched. I just don't want to think that things are so bad between them that they wouldn't bring back one of the most popular voices from ME2.
Then again, maybe they just haven't contacted him yet and we're all overreacting.

Well, you're at least part right: they haven't contacted him. Whether it's a "yet" remains to be seen.

I know this is not the reassurance you are asking for, but speculating and getting worked up when there's no information to go on isn't the best course of action. If I know more about this getting addressed, I'll point you guys in the right direction. Sorry we can't offer more right now.
This is something that should have some kind of statement. Even a "We're undecided" or "Negotiations are ongoing" is better than rampant speculation.
Hell, I'd think even a "We can't comment on developments in that area" would be better than the silence we're getting, which your post, almost, but doesn't quite reach.

First of all, thanks for dropping by!
I was actually going "play it by ear" for a couple of days until I saw some fingers being pointed at a post by Stanley Woo where he regarded this thread as covering 'Mordin's original voice actor'. I was trying to avoid getting any more worked-up than I already have, and obviously I admit to having gotten a fair bit worked-up for once when I first heard the news Mr. Beattie might not be back.
That and, well, I spoke with Mr. Beattie via email correspondence- - wonderful guy, by the way. So I felt inclined to make a bit of ruckus afterward just to get the word out. I feel like I've done pretty close to all I can do, of course, and like I said, I was settling down until folks were talking about Mr. Woo's implications.
I think the mods can probably stand by me at this point when I say that I don't generally raise a fuss about anything. The Mordin issue is a special case, and I don't wish to cause any excess frustration; I know you lads and lasses have plenty enough of that already.

Well said Jessica. I've been saying the same thing for a while now, hopefully that there's been an official comment people can relax a little :-)Jessica Merizan wrote...
