That's why it's so nice we have all these expert modder's around the community.  Have you seen some of the work they have already done in vastly increasing the texture levels of the game?  Some may like to trash on the PC as the old-school way of playing games but the ability to customize that game is what makes the PC shine.  All of my games have been "upgraded" in one form or another and with the PC and a small amount of tech skill, you can do some amazing enchancements.

I agree, those hi-res texture packs sure can add a lot of eye-candy for ME2 on the PC.  Below is a couple of screenshots of Jack from my ASUS ROG G74sx.

Top screen is without the texture pack where we can see her tatoos exhibit a very blurry, ill-defined appearance.

However, the bottom screen utilizing the hi-res texture pack applied to the game brings out her tatoos with an extremely sharp, distinct pattern that gives us more background details of Jack's complex character.

I'm not familiar with that graphics card, I got an Nvidia Gforce 9600 GT. Anyone know how they compare, cause his sounds pretty cool.

It's quite good, but not the best. Faster than 9600GT, that's for sure.

Seriously... console vs. PC flame war again? Grow up... you get what you pay for. A $700 gaming rig will blow any console out of sky. and since everyone needs a computer anyhow, I don't see a point of owning a crappy console and a crappy computer.

Now, BioWare will not make any effort to improve the graphics. The most popular console players' excuse is that the engine doesn't support DX11, but that's BS, The Witcher 2 doesn't have DX11 and still looks awesome. Consistent graphics, as someone mentioned - EVERYTHING is hi-res, not just the faces.

You've gotta understand, BioWare developers are in fact in love with crappy electronics. Casey Hudson, Preston Watamaniuk, Chris Priestly, etc. - they all play on Xbox and use iPhones/iPads, 'cause they don't know any better. FFS, when BF3 came out, they all tweeted how cool the game was... and they played it on cosoles! :D It's a real shame, since these guys definitely have the cash for 6-monitor triple-GPU killer setup (so the stupid "PC gaming is expensive" excuse is irrelevant here!), but they're just too limited in their understanding of gaming. It's sad, but it's true. They will keep using an excuse of how they've focused on gameplay and storyline instead of graphics...

... but anyone who's played Witcher 2 will know how FOS they are. Good visuals never hurt the game; on the contrary, they enhance the experience. And making a hi-res texture pack has never impacted anything. It's actually the only thing ME needs to shine on the PC, the rest of the graphics are quite fine. There's NO excuse for not making a hi-res pack.

I'd rather have good graphics than multiplayer, that's for sure!

I'm surprised that there isn't a flame war. A discussion, yes, but so far it's been quite civil.

-Shrugs- I thought pc gaming was declarewd dead five years ago, lol here we go again.

But really ME3 is going to be the same across the board oh well.

At-least it means I won't have to upgrade.

as long as the devs still use PCs to create games, I don't see how PCs would be obsolete. No? Or did I just unleash a dumb statement?

I spent more time in games appreciating its aesthetic values anyway so I don't see how marvelous graphics would make the game any better. It's not like I want to see Shepard's hair follicles while fighting the collectors (though that would be awesome). Besides, I'll be pissed if I have to upgrade my laptop to tackle the game's intense graphics (if any).

And it's not like their games are created at lowres textures so I don't understand why can't PC have a highres pack. Hell Battlefield 3 on the consoles has a higher res texture pack on the discs.

Every one has there own opinion on this matter, from what i have seen in this topic so far MOST of us want to see better graphics in the PC version of Mass Effect 3, and hopefully a graphics mod for ME2 PC.

They probably won't ever say anything about this.
Just hope for more high res mods or use 4x ssaa.

ME3
is using the Unreal Engine 3, just like ME2. They're using the March 2010 release, which is NOT DX11 compatible, unfortunately. Don't remember where I heard this, but it seems like it would be true,
considering what we know.

Yeah, it was a question I asked Jesse Houston some time ago:

twitter.com/#!/gtez/status/71359093570412544
"Hey,
I wonder if you can tell us which version of the Unreal Engine you will be using for ME3? I have started using UDK and it's fun!"

"March 2010 code drop the rest is custom-built."

a response in a thread I started a while ago - consensus was for improved textures,   DX9 with some customization.

Mass Effect 3 will never reach BF3 quality appearance. I'm okay with that, not every game has to look amazing. It would be nice though if they have us the games actual native HD textures rather then the washy downgraded textures used in the console versions.

Apparently we're just not worth the trouble. =/

we aren't worth the trouble because we're only 20% of the market - if and when the console makers restart the upgrade wars, we get something our rigs have been able to blow away for years

I really laugh at this argument.  Go back to playing 8-bit games if you really believe that.

I realize this, and its unfortunite that some developers just don't feel like bothering because a minority of the market isn't worth it.  It's even a little upsetting when you see many other develoeprs having no problem with it.  Games that we're clearly designed with the PC version as an after thought, like Batman or Darksiders (both made using the same engine, prooving its completely possible), still look much better on PC simply because they can.

I also think there is a common misconception from console gamers that making the games look better on PC actually takes a lot of extra effort.  Like we are asking the developers to work harder for us.  Now in some cases like BF3 this may actually be true because DICE is one of those develoeprs that goes above and beyond to create bleeding edge software.  But Mass Effect's engine is not bleeding edge technology and thats not what most people are asking for or expecting.  We just want the games original proper crisp textures as we get in most pc games, not the downgraded ones put into the console version for sake of better performance on older hardware.

Will I still buy the PC version regardless?  Sure.  At least it has anti-aliasing, 1080p native resolution and 60fps.  Thats great and all, and no it doesn't kill us to get low-res textured armor and what-not.  It doesn't make the game unplayable or unenjoyable.  But we can still desire these thigns can't we?

Been reading the Jobs bio - his passion went so deep as to reject circuit boards because the tracer lines weren't as elegant as he envisioned. And remember the Mac was unopenable except by factory techs - no consumer ever saw this stuff nor the signatures of the entire team engraved on the inside of the case. If you want to do great work that is the attitude to take

The ME series is clearly worthy of such passion - It is perhaps one of the greatest gaming experiences ever created AND may represent a frontier in the literary genre - a truly 'adult' - in many ways - piece of interactive fiction that has created a virtual universe around itself.

Or if you just want to make a buck, aim squarely at adequate and ignore excellence. Sure fire recipe for missing true greateness

And ATI-cards doesn't burst into flames if you push them to the limit.
