Does a templar's silence effect only apply to mages; like if you used silence on an assassin would they be unable to stealth?

I may be wrong, but I believe silence only applies to magic/man. A rogue's abilities do not use mana; they use stamina, so I don't think it applies to that, no. Just a guess.

i think they made it so it just silences abilities in general. i've never used a templar, but i've heard silencing assassins/arishoks as a method people use

Yep, templars silence everything. They are sort of getting a boost in DLCs, since more enemies have skills.

Yes, the templar spec is quite useful for defensive minded warriors. You can essentially limit boss enemies to auto attacks. Too bad enemy templars do that by default anyway.
