Am I the only one who's really excited about ME3's action mode?

To me, the Action Mode is pointless. Who the hell plays Mass Effect to just shoot things?! Mass Effect 1 was sold on the basis of the dialogue and choices! It's RPGS mode/Story Mode for me. Never gonna touch Action mode.

BioWare isn't spending their resources on that mode because they think Mass Effect fans will play it, they are pushing resources into it because they think they can bank huge on making a mode for the mainstream shooter market by stripping the Mass Effect out and just leaving a combat deal.

The point in Mass Effect was always to go down on random planets and cities and just massacre the mercs and aliens and people with those guns and biotics! I always felt like the long, tedious dialogue scenes were ruining the game and cutting away all the action. I don't understand where the hate comes from for it when I browsed through the forums. I just want to grab my trusty shotgun, and shoot aliens in the face aand occasionally spank Miranda's ass.

*facepalm*

That's all I can do when seeing fans like this...

then go play Halo or CoD if you want fast action and little to no dialouge, the point of ME was to immerse yourself into a universe

And that's the problem.

I dunno, Messenger of Reason sounds pretty immersed. Who are we to tell him he's 'doing it wrong?'

Well I think it's a good thing. The issue with Mass effect 1 is that after 14th playthrought, it gets borring to follow the story we already know, exploration we don't care, etc etc. At this level, we just want to shoot with our party.

The action mode seems perfect for just fun with insanity mode.

I agree. If I'm testing out new builds on my nth playthrough, I'm going to spacebar through virtually all of the dialogue anyway.

It doesn't remove the story.  It doesn't remove the dialogue.  It simply turns conversations into cutscenes.

Which means you have to design the game while considering a subgroup of players who no longer makes choices.  This then means that there is one correct path through the game,  you cannot give this group just the "Average ending",  they'll riot.

Given DA2 and ME2's path was primarily "You can hear your character say something nice,  or hear him say something mean,  but either way you get the exact same effect from the dialogue",  we can reasonably infer that choice and consequence will not be present in ME3.

Personally,  I'd be willing to bet real money that ME3 ends up on the list of "Worst mistakes in gaming ever",  quite possibly taking the number 1 spot.

Because I *really* don't see completely removing the RPG from an RPG as not being flamed to heck.

Does that make me wrong about the most likely motivator behind including a {RPG/TPS - RPG = TPS Sales} mode?

RPG mode. Why would you play anything else? Why would they even give us the option?

It's nice of them to put the option in for other people but I am going to play it only in RPG mode. Don't really see a reason to change my ME experience.

It's nice of them, or fiscally smart of their executives? I personally don't see the use of resources on that mode to be true to ME in any way. The people who will use that from the get-go are not the fanbase.

Hm, it has no use for me either but I am not too worried about the resources. If you believe Casey's latest interview with games informer, all the modes do is to set a couple of toggles in the option screens. That doesn't sound like a lot of time had to be put into it. They also had to choose the automated dialogue options at one point bit that's about it. A reasonable amount of work if it makes a couple of players happy.
And don't forget, they also put in the story mode. If I remember the umber of posts we had in the old legacy forums back after the ME1 release, there were a number of people WITHIN the fanbase who complained that they find the shooter gameplay too difficult/annoying. So they are catering to fans as well as new people. I am fine with that, not excited about it but I don't see a reason to call them down for it or through out the old $$$-greedy-company accusation for putting in these options.
We've got Origin for that. :D
