Mages are overpowered. Single player game or no. No other class can Tank/DPS, party heal, and crowd control, at the same time.
My guys aren't attacking, they just stand there!
Most people aren't that stupid. Many many times will your companions stand idle and do nothing while getting sodomized by darkspawn.
Second playthrough with the same character?
This should have been implemented from day 1, without hesitation. We are on the eve of 2010, and this feature is over a decade old.
Why can PC people do X and consoles got ripped off?
Then, by that logic, our inferior game should cost less money. Not more.
There is too much talking in the game.

BioWare shouldn't charge for DLC (Question and answer provided by Mithent)
There are rougly 30 hours of gameplay for each playthough, on average. Assuming someone only does 1 playthough: If the retail price of the game is $60, and you divide that up by the number of hours:
60/30=2.
You pay $2 per hour of awesome gaming time.
The Wardens keep cost $7, and is roughly 30 minutes of gameplay.

Quit ****ing trying to divide the hours of the game into dollars, that's not how DLC works. People are willing to pay 5 bucks for a small quest, and some weapons/armor. Why wouldn't Bioware offer this service to fans who are willing to pay? If you don't think strong DLC sales are going to help push more/better DLC/expansions I'm not sure how to convince you but yeah.
I personally agree with and appreciate the tone of the original post, so much crap on these forums.

That DLC should have already been in the retail version of the game.
Fallout 3's DLC added hours and hours of extra game play, not minutes. That's REAL dlc.
And stop whining about people whining.

Your ad hominem attack shows weakness in your argument. Name calling is the last resort of people who don't have legitimate points to make.
Mages are overpowered!!!!one!!
Mages are overpowered. Single player game or no. No other class can Tank/DPS, party heal, and crowd control, at the same time.
Overpowered by what scale? There's some rule or code or something that says "all characters, at equal character level, must be roughly equal strength" or even "all classes, at least, must be able to reach the same level of power at equal characer levels"?
No, there isn't. There's my opinion, your opinion, the OP's opinion, other people's opinions, and Bioware's opinion. When it comes to the design of the classes for the game, guess who's matters most?
You can dislike it. It can be "overpowered" in your opinion, as in your opinion is that there must be the balancing rules I asked about - but that is strictly your opinion (and maybe the opinions of others, too) and the only "say" you have on it is your right on the forum to say "the classes should be balanced and therefore the mage is overpowered" AND you have the right to not play the game, not buy the game, or sell the game -
but you cannot, by fiat, declare the mage is overpowered. That requires a scale and as there's no official "all video game RPG characters must follow these rules (including balance)" law out there AND you or anyone else making one up for arguments sake is completely arbitrary, other than for stating your personal views on the matter saying that "mages are overpowered" is POINTLESS. There is no point as it is a completely personal view without some scale to compare it to, a scale that is either official or universally agreed upon.
Ok?
They are "overpowered" to YOU. To other people who believe so. In your opinion. Not as a fact. By blanket comparision, Ogres are overpowered compared to Genlocks.
Whether mages are more powerful than warriors or rogues - ah, that's a debate that can legitmately be had (I dunno if it can be conclusively answered, but possibly - I personally don't care) but
MORE POWERFUL != OVERPOWERED
Overpowered implies there was intended to be equality of some sort.
My guys aren't attacking, they just stand there!
Most people aren't that stupid. Many many times will your companions stand idle and do nothing while getting sodomized by darkspawn.
Actually, from day one, those really were problems for many, many people. I had to explain the Behaviors pull-down menu to my brother on the phone 3 days after release as he, like I'm sure MANY players, did not read the instruction manual and ignored the codex controls section.
If you have the right tactics set (including behaviors) AND you haven't had one of your characters run way out of range of the rest of the party AND the party isn't set to hold position - then your party will never just "stand there."
Second playthrough with the same character?
This should have been implemented from day 1, without hesitation. We are on the eve of 2010, and this feature is over a decade old.
Opinion. Personal preference.
Halo is close to ten years old, and it had recharging energy shields - should DAO have recharging energy shields? Daggerfall is well over ten years old and had a completely open world map, shouldn't DAO have an open world map? Baldur's Gate 2 had orcs and goblins and gave you a party of six - CRPG traditions that go back to games like Bard's Tale and Wizard's Crown, all those games are well over ten years old, shouldn't we have the ability to keep 6 party members by 2010 and why switch away from Tolkien traditional orcs and goblins while keeping elves and dwarves?
Because other games, even other similar games, EVEN other similar games from the same developer, have a certain feature is no reason that any other games "should" have those features "implemented." That is up to the intent of the game designers.
Again, your opinion is not an automatic truth.
Why can PC people do X and consoles got ripped off?
Then, by that logic, our inferior game should cost less money. Not more.
PC games are cheaper because, sadly, of a mix of the following: supply and demand (PC games, outside MMOs, sell far less than console games); piracy (far easier to pirate PC games than console games); and a very established user base that can access digital copies so easily that the price had to drop.
Consoles, however, have hardware that changes significantly every few years, requiring game designers to have to relearn to code for and recode games across platforms, and not only are the "networking" and "online marketplaces" of console gaming relatively new, it has been built from the ground up to insure maximum profitability while the internet and PC access to it circumvent such "innovations" such as XBOX Live Marketplace, and so the price gauging is harder to accomplish (again, at least partially due to piracy.)
Your games costing more has nothing to do with console being inferior to PCs (who defines inferior? PCs, on average, are inferior in cost/benefit ratio if used solely as game machines AND inferior as to how easy it is for non-computer savvy people to use for gaming - if you look at it from those perspectives.)
The OP didn't say inferior or superior - he said PC users took advantage of their platform's capabilities (i.e. the less restricted / less controlled internet vs. console networks.)

Uhm, the OP did't tell people who were bashing the game to shut up here or to go play a different game. You presented a strawman.
He said, "That isn't nice to say out oud, even if it is true. Go post your
complaints in the site help forum, I don't think anyone reads them
there but at least you can say you tried." Which DOESN'T say to not post complaints, just to put them in the help forum (which, I think, is because he is addressing people who may LEGITIMATELY have a problem with how the forums work (or don't work!)) and even has the "even if it is true" meaning that he explicitly is admitting that complaints may be legitimate.
Really a classic misrepresentation of the OP's statement here. You are apparently fuming about responses in general you are witnessing (or how you're interpreting responses you see) and you seem to be taking it out on the OP.
BioWare shouldn't charge for DLC (Question and answer provided by Mithent)

60/30=2.
You pay $2 per hour of awesome gaming time.
The Wardens keep cost $7, and is roughly 30 minutes of gameplay.
Mileage varies greatly. And misrepresentation of length of things is still a bad practice.
For example (and you can check my profile if you don't believe me) my game statistics tells me I am 26% of the way through the game (or hit 26 % of what is possible to do/find in the game, I rarely care much about such stats) and I've clocked 82 hours. That's 82 hours that doesn't count replaying battles where I died, for example.
I play the crap outta my CRPGs and I don't use walkthroughs or strategy guides (at least the first time through a game.)
Warden's Keep, if you mean from the moment I arrived at Soldier's Peak until the moment I left the place cleared out, took me close to 2 hours. That isn't counting the conversation at the party camp, nor my returning there multiple times for inventory and buying and selling stuff, NOR does it take into consideration the items that are unique to WK that are now with me through the rest of the game.
Now EVEN IF I only counted the content as for 2 hours - that's under $4 per hour. AND SO WHAT? I've played games that cost me $60 that I finished in less than 6 hours. If I ENJOYED the game, I felt like it was money well spent, not because I can divide $60/6 and get $10 per hour and think that's fair.
This is completely a judgement call as to whether or not 30 minutes or 2 hours or "time at keep + new items + added story background" is worth, to each person, $7. The ultimate test of whether it is "worth it" in general, however, is not comparing to other games (even to DAO itself) but in how well it sells.
There are plenty of LONG games that just don't sell as well. Did Daggerfall sell better than Diablo 2? No. Would most people argue their money was better spent on Daggerfall than on Diablo 2? Probably not - even though you can win Diablo 2 in 15-20 hours and you can easily spend over a hundred hours in Daggerfall without trying.
BUT some people would consider Daggerfall better than Diablo 2.
So, in summation, while your I respect your opinion as your own, you are in fact, wrong on a lot of issues. Fanboiism is an ugly disease.
Saying you respect someones opinion and then telling them not only that they are wrong but claiming they suffer from "an ugly disease" called "fanboism" is basically like saying -
I don't think you're unattractive - but you're uglier than a sick goat, and you repulse me.
Using an ad hominem attack (name-calling) is not an argument, it is a sign of weakness.
You cannot be calling someone out on "being a bitc*" while simultaneously acting like one yourself - if, by "being a bitc*" you mean being rude, offensive and insulting. This is called hypocrisy, and when you act like a hypocrit you devalue, if not outright defeat, your own arguments even if on their own your arguments would be sound.

If the majority have the opinion that they are indeed overpowered, you really shouldn't have that " I am right! The rest of the world is wrong!"
Btw, I just wanted to say that Tech forum has nothing on playing DLC's offline when we happen to have a ISP problem or something...
Although lots of forums on the internet have linked torrents for all DLC's and they really don't have to suffer stupid DRM methods as we, legit owners, always seem to.

I see:
- the claim that 90% of topics in the forums are rehashes of existing topics
- a declaration of seeking to alleviate people searching for answers by putting up something of a f.a.q.
- the statement that if your question you want to ask isn't answered in this thread that you might have an original question (or the possibility that this "f.a.q." is incomplete
- the hypothesis put forth that if this thread doesn't insult you that you are at least of typical intelligence
- the unassuming hope that the thread helps somebody
I could pull out of it via loose interpretation:
- the implication that most thread starters in this forum either don't search for their question's topic or don't care to search
- the assumption that the OP has the correct answers to the questions he poses as frequent
- a potential dig towards those who are too lazy to see if their question was already answered before adding a new thread
- a flippant off-hand comment about how it's more likely the OP forgot to include your question than it is that you have a new question
- taking the converse of the last sentence, it could be assumed that the OP really meant to insult people asking certain kinds of questions and if you were insulted then you are below average intelligence
However, not once in the stated purpose, nor anywhere in the post of answers by the OP, do I see anything that even vaguely tells anyone that "if you don't like it you can GET OUT."
Hyperbolic strawman.
Ticladesign, may I suggest that your own personal grievances (one might say agendas?) are coloring how you view posts and threads?
Either you are purposefully misrepresenting the OP or you didn't really read the OP's original post.
I won't suggest that you cannot understand a post in its full context without ascribing your own inferred meanings on said post - i.e. having a problem with literary comprehension - as that would be insulting. However, it really is the only alternative to the previous either/or.

I do not however retract that statement, since I firmly believe that anyone coming to these forums with the sole purpose of complaining that this game is not like another game is either under some form of extreme psychosis, is a blatant troll, or lacks common sense.
In that case, and that case only, my intention actually WAS to inform you that you in fact had two options, either learn to live with reality or, 'get out'.
The purpose of the post as a whole was to answer commonly asked questions, with the foreknowledge that only a small number of people that actually ask these questions will bother to read the post. If you took personal offense to my sarcasm, it is my opinion that you have an inflated sense of your own importance to me and an incredibly thin skin, since the original post names nobody specifically.
if you disagree with the sentiments expressed, that is fine. This is an open forum and you are not only welcome but encouraged to disagree and discuss. Devolving into finger-pointing and name calling, however, is not only counterproductive, but unamusing.
I demand you amuse me.

Is your sarcasm meter broken? May need repairs....
Actually I was pointing out the overuse of sarcasm as coming across as pompous. Perhaps you should look up the word "sarcasm" in the dictionary. Was that sarcasm?
Here are some points of sarcasm, which can also be described as taunts, or cutting remarks.
"Seriously, we are all sick of hearing about it."
" Stop asking."
" Learn to live without."
" please go back to the MMO of the week."
"There is too much talking from your mouth, go back to paying FPS games and leave us alone."
So as you can see, my sarcasm meter is working just fine. In fact, it is your understanding of the word sarcasm that is lacking. You should have paid more attention in school. Was that sarcasm?
Now, if I were to remove my sarcastic remarks, would I come across as more genuine and less pompous? I was just pointing out that if the author of this FAQ wanted it to be genuinely usefull they should remove the insults. Otherwise this FAQ is nothing more than post meant to flame people, or toss insults.
sar⋅casm (sahr-kaz-uhm)
1. harsh or bitter derision or irony.
2. a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark: a review full of sarcasms.
i⋅ro⋅ny (ahy-ruh-nee)
–noun, plural -nies.
1.
the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its
literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had
to work all weekend.
2. Literature.
a. a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an
intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly
stated.
b. (esp.in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give
full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes,
etc., esp. as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme,
or emotion.
3. Socratic irony
4. dramatic irony
5. an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected. 6. the incongruity of this.
7. an objectively sardonic style of speech or writing.
8. an objectively or humorously sardonic utterance, disposition, quality, etc
Your sarcasm detector IS broken; I hope this helps

So you're saying that 90% of the posts are about the same issues? Ok. Then, by that logic, of the several hundreds if not thousands of posts a day on this forum, people are posting about the same issues?
I think that would lead one to believe that 90% is the majority. So 90% of the people posting on the forums are complaining about issues that your tired or hearing about?
I'm not going to argue symantics with you.
On mages: Rogues and warriors are classic cookie cutter designs. I don't know if its just me, but I don't pick inferior classes just because. If the mage can perform nearly every group function (save for lockpicking), then why wouldn't you play a mage? You'd have to be insane not too. People could take heart in picking a warrior or a rogue, if they were all on equal playing fields. But they are not. And no matter how you spice it, mages are hands down the easiest class, and the most thought out class in this game. Its NOT that I don't like mages. I hate that rogues and warriors are inferior. And when we cry foul, people say "Play a mage." That's not the answer.
On PC's vs. Consoles: Limitations = Inferior product.
So we get subpar graphics, controls, camera angles. Ok. But then the product we do get isn't 100%. And there's no "quick fix" for console users, which probably...and I say probably because I don't have the numbers, but can get them, constitute the majority of the sales for the title.
Do not claim to have a helpful post, then blindside those who are not 100% satisfied with the product with the indirect message of "Shut up and deal." That's a BS attitude.
Maybe I want to roleplay as a band of warriors. Can I? Absolutely, if I enjoyed spamming potions and spending the majority of my play time reading the load screen. What about a full band of rogues? No? Wait, what about 4 mages??? Ah, I can have one set to tank with AW, a designated healer, and two throwing out dps? Win? Exactly.
And equality should have been intended. If there was a warning saying "You cannot play this game without absolutely having a mage in your party.", I would have second guessed my decision to purchase this title.
I'm not going to attack anyone's persona anymore. But when in the first paragraph you come across as a certain way, what kind of responses do you expect to get? Really?
If I find something that displeases me, come to the forums and find that a very large number of other players also say my OPINION, then I will continue to voice it.

You do NOT need a mage to finish this game. I have finished it on normal with a 2 war 2 rogue party and am currently working on a solo nightmare rogue (although I think some of the biggest boss battles might prove too much for me). Others have also talked about non-mage parties even on nightmare, it is not nearly as hard as you seem to think it is.
Yes, consoles get lower graphics, controls, and camera angles. Bioware can't magically make your console have better processing power. They didn't decide to just gimp the game to ****** you off, they had to make hard calls on what to cut and what to leave in (this subject has been covered by bioware in various interviews and on these very forums). A non-upgradeable platform that was constructed 7 or 8 years ago (and even then was not as powerful as top-end PCs of the time) is never going to be able to compete with the processing power of a modern PC. This isn't an insult to consoles, it is a fact.
Getting upset and ranting over facts really doesn't help anything, even when dozens of other people are also upset and ranting.

Just a quick rebuttal here based in fact and not opinion:
I think the Xbox 360 just hit its 4th birthday, not 7-8 years.
But, Sloth is entirely right. You guys have to remember that the Xbox 360 is a four year old piece of hardware that can't be upgraded. The only reason you see games on the 360 that have graphics on par with some PC games is because those games are X360 exclusives that are built to run on that engine from day 1 (they don't need to worry about if it runs on PS3 and PC as well). That's why when you have a multiplatform game it will generally look and run better on a PC, assuming the company didn't shaft the PC version.
