Ferelden seems more based on Romano-Britain than England.

I often hear about how Ferelden is based on Anglo-Saxon England, but while playing the game it seemed to have more Celtic influence than Germanic.
I mean look at all of the names of the important Ferelden characters; Cailan, Maric, Loghain, Wynn, Couseland, Alaister, etc.
It seems that the majority of important named Fereldens have Celtic names. Where are the Germanic names?
I know Ferelden is a fantasy realm but it is said to be based on England, so forgive me for expecting English names.
Here are some names that Bioware could have used; Edmud, Æthelstan, Ethelred, Offa, Theoderic, Ælfred, Edward, Wulfthryth, Harold, etc.

This is not a huge issue but it is something that has been nagging at me since Origins came out, so I probably am making this sound like a bigger issue then it is. My problem is that I dislike things that are mislabled. All I ask for is that in future Dragon Age games Ferelden characters are given more appropriate names.

Yes, some of the music sounds Celtic as well. Not that I'm complaining. :)

I think the comparison to Anglo-Saxon britain is because of the political structure of Ferelden, though other peopel have noted that resembles medieval scotland (which fits perfectly with the names). On the other hand Scotland was never ruled by the Roman Empire and Ferelden was ruled by its analog the imperium.

My personal historical comparison is that Ferelden is an alternate Britain where they fought off the Germanic (Chasind) invaders, got conquered by the French (sort of like 1066, but not exactly), and Simon de Montfort's rebellion in the 1260's was successful. But there's no precise historical analog for anything in Thedas.

If the names were a mishmash of random origins, it would annoy me, but they've chosen to consistently use Celtic names throughout Ferelden. The only thing that really bugs me about Thedas is this idea that people speak the common tongue throughout. I have trouble believing that a country with place names like Redcliffe and Highever speaks the same language as a country with placenames like Val Royeaux and Val Foret, especially when people from that land have such a distinct accent.
