Toads and Frogs

I've been unsatisfied with the toads and frogs I can find on the vault. I've seen the beautiful work Diademus/Babayaga has posted on these forums of giant frogs, but these do not yet appear available. And I would prefer something that is not at a monstrous size. Something natural and innocuous looking.

So... anyone know of some good looking frog and/or toad models?

My goal is to have a good polymorph form for a witch to turn a character into. Chicken and penguin will work, but toad would be much better.

Baba Yaga's awesome frog model is available, but needs animation work (something I'm tinkering with in my spare time (which is rare) just to teach myself how to animate a creature...it's a very slow learning process since I'm also working on multiple other projects).

hehe, i hate and love that frog. animations sucks m8´s. i realy gave up on that one craturee, the first and last one

Ahhh cool I did not see that you uploaded the toads to the vault, maybe I jump on animating it so I have something to go with the stomach placables. :) thanks baba yaga great models :)

Has anyone filled out the animations on this frog yet?

I am still looking for a frog/toad soundset too if anyone knows of one. Thanks.

I'd love to use these frogs as well with new animations, or rather, fixed ones. Baba Yaga, you can't give up that quickly! :D

the real issue is how I had setup the jump animation back then. It doesnt match any moving rate you set in the 2da entry at all. I think i even moved (at that time by accident) the root dummy forward in the mid and back and so the awkward jumping bounce happened. My original files are also lost in space... so i can only suggest by now, set his ass to immobile and use them only to guard little passages for swampy areas...The tounge attack works great at least for me. For missle attacks just try to use a special "dodge" under water simulated script or so?!

Baba has the tongue attack in for both the frog & bullywog. The jumping anims are going to be my main focus.

WS, is there a video anywhere of that anim?

the jumping animation is somewhat borked Rolo. I´m sure i messed up the timescale for the animation and never got the correct entry for the 2da walkdist/ rundist.

That's why I'm focusing on that :-)

But I'm also thinking of making the throat a skinmesh with some bones to make it bulge for the swallow-whole attack ;-)

pretty cool idea. I always thought about a swallow attack but due to the limitations we have or that we cant freeze a PC in order to synchronize a "creature attack + PC defend/helpless" animation i skipped that...makes sense?

In resident evil games when the zombies bites you your PC is freezed as long as the zombie completes his attack. These things are so cool and if anyone has an idea we could create some very nasty special attacks for other creatures too;)

Slimes as an example would swallow you too and melt your flesh and bones...:devil:

What do you mean we can't freeze the PC? Certainly we can. And make him spasm to boot...

In fact, I seem to remember a certain illithid "eat brains" special attack that does just that, though I think that was just a cutscenes...

Anyway, I think we can do it :-)

the guy who did the resident evil zombies made a special cutscene where the zombies feed on you and you die... with a black fade out before the "you died" screen but we need it ingame... so just a pause. Or we do kill the pc instantly when a swallow attack was succesfull which is pretty bad;)

I toke the stomach tileset and made them into placables of different sizes, I thought I sent them to that month CCC. I also put them into my HR base with a full script system that let you have any monster swallow them to a stomach. Check it out if you get a chance, the bear and spider have it on them on the start level for example. There a PDF too that explains it some of it.

I will see if i can dig up a video of the swallow attack from ToEE - if not, I will upload one (I have ToEE, so it shouldn't be too hard to get swallowed...hehe).

Here we have the Moathouse, with a description of how the grapple attack of the frog tongue works - and I would think that it would be transferrable to NWN.

Perhaps extending the time it takes for the swallow - so that NPCs can have some time to kill the frog before it swallows you.

hmm. The stomach or mouth of the frog is not nearly the size of a tileset you know guys. I dont have a better idea but not sure if i like that way to be honest. Maybe someone can try it like we did it with the "romantic animations" where 2 animations from the involved creatures are synchronized like i said previously. The attack and defense/helpless stance must be setup in a way that all phenotypes can use one supermodel anim so not every animation needs to be updated for under-the-table-walkers or bulky halforcs etc...

there you can see that both are freezed. The frog doesnt even move when hit by the others and the "to be swallowed" guy cant act at all/ like paralysed.

So maybe something like a temporarily paralized effect on both. A drunk like looping animation for the PC/NPC and a looping custom animation for the frog. Sounds good?

How can we use a tail for the frog when we cant tell the engine take this exactly looking PC/NPC and attach it as a  tail to the frog?. TO many variations of clothing etc.

@ BY: I was actually planning something more along the lines of the illithid brain-eating anim. put a paralyze effect on player, the tongue-attack anim wraps the tongue around player, player spasms...

But after seeing the video... (Thanks FP!)

Now I'm thinking of Merricksdad's beams... make the tongue a beam?
Hold the frog & PC in position fighting against strength/size of opponent until it wins additional grapple attack.

Could be a PCish looking thing of waving arms & legs at end of tongue visible for a split second as it swallows. would be static (not showing actual armor/colors of PC) but might improve the anim... think about it.

Frog goes to bulging throat swallow state and PC goes cut-scene invis while being suffocated/killed. If escapes, PC reappears and frog returns to normal state.

Still thinking/planning. Won't get to this one until March. But I'm scheduling it for then.

I want this :-)

Oh, and little poison arrow frogs for familiars :-) Have a nasty recurring NPC antagonist...

the Beam effect idea is great. Because it can stay on the PC´s origin it was targeted at while being fired/ tongued...Now we need a red beam for the tongue that has no magical stars or flares ;) A monster node like the beholder has in the mouth of the frog where the tongue beam comes out. We need to make sure the tongue beam cant be used in a to far away position and only like "if in raidus of 4m then try to grapple" or so.

We´re definately on the right track:)

I've got some rough animations in for a new walk animation and have moved the "hop" to the run animation. I've also added simple appear/disappear and dead animations.

Baba, that "hop" animation looks pretty dang good and the distance moved from the 2da looks good. The walk animation I did also matches up quite nicely with the walk distance from the 2da.

These froggies will go pretty good with that Otyugh I've been working on...:bandit:

I love how these projects take on a life of their own, growing organically.
