He was meant to be the leader of the new Prothean empire after their cycle (they were even planning to make the humans a part of it if we so chose and help us defeat the Reapers when the time of the next cycle arrived fifty thousand years later), but he and his team was betrayed by the indoctrinated sleeper agents, and the Reapers pretty much smashed their plan to bits.

He hid in a stasis chamber somewhere (some evidence hints towards Eden Prime, but I'm not sure) and then Cerberus woke him up and he slaughtered a good bunch of them before running into Shepard, who's the only one that can understand him (thanks to the Cipher) before he gets a proper translator.

That's awesome. I'm going to enjoy prothy a great deal I think. I'm just wondering what he looks like? does he look like those statues on Ilos or is he similar in appearance to the Collectors?

A cynic after my own heart.  It wouldn't surprise me if the 'leaked' demo script was laced with red herrings and such. Then again, it also wouldn't surpise me if we see that exact script in the final version either.

I'm annoyed by the fact that we have these new squad mates and the Mass Effect 2 characters all get pushed to the back burner. Seriously what was Bioware thinking when they did that to EDI? I won't judge Vega or the Prothean too quickly but I'm annoyed because these spots could have been given to a Mass Effect 2 squad member.

Actually, I think he has some Collector traits, because I think it was James or someone on the crew that referred to him as a Sun Tzu with more eyes and called him "buggy" at the same time.

I hope for more in that matter. And I can't really see EDI developing "real" romantic feelings for Joker. She's still an AI, and AIs don't have feelings, even a sophisticated AI like EDI does not have.

To bring up that spoiler again: EDI!bot has some unhealthy effect on the VS at some point in the game - without remorse.

Joker on the other hand seems to be the "social awkward type". I guess that's why he has no active romance - in some way he remembers me a real "old school" nerd. He lives for what he loves but doesn't care much for anything else. I like Joker, btw, but that's pretty much his character.

Grunt as permanent? Don't think so. You see, leaked data contains rather many [Assign Liara], [Assign Ashley], [Assign Prothean], etc. - I haven't seen Grunt in such. His chances were slim right after the announcement of Vega's specialisation, though.

We've seen enough human relationships in media. With A.I. becoming closer and closer to reality, very few IP's have challenged this human/A.I. romance possibility. I'm eager to see what Bioware will do with it.

I'm eager too , I want to see what they are going to do with this, becasue I would hate  if EDI at first is closer to Joker and then suddenly at some point in the game she bascially becomes simple AI type of thing.

exactly plus trisha (cant remember last name from battlestar) is an awesome actress so she'll be having a larger role to play. i'd just like to see miri and mordin back and ill be happy

The ONLY time I've ever seen this scenario play out where it wasn't some creepy scenario with an uncomfortably socially defunct loser and his computer slave was in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. And even then, it was only heavily teased at all the way until the end.

The human/AI relationship was explored in the old TV show "Andromeda." The relationship took place between the AI of the Pax Magellanic, a heavy cruiser, and her Captain and it didn't turn out very well because when her lover ordered the Pax to self destruct in order to prevent capture she saw it as a betrayal and went insane destroying the planet that he and the crew were on as a final farewell to her love.
 
Shades of romantic tension occurred between the AI of the Andromeda Ascendant, a sister ship to the Pax Magellanic, and her Captain, but the relationship never progressed beyond the platonic.
 
As far as an AI/Shepard romance in ME3, I think that could be interesting. If one accepts an AI and an individual with the same rights and privileges of an organic individual, then romance comes along with that package. On the previously mentioned show "Andromeda," the Systems Commonwealth took that view. The counterpoint was taken by one of the crew because he asserted that the purpose of a relationship was to produce children and since the AI could not do that she was relegated to being a life sized love doll.
 
If BioWare chooses to proceed down that path, I think that it would be very interesting to see how they would handle it. Especially given the reputation of AI in the galaxy and the level of hostility that organics hold for them.

I don't like the EDI+Joker relationship because I'm a teenager/fat housewife who fantasizes nightly about making love and going shopping with Joker. For him to be attracted to an artificial woman infinitely better than me in terms of looks and personality makes me jealous.

But I'll just say its wrong from a 'realistic'/scientific point of view. I'm sure everyone will believe me.

Well, technically, EDI is from the ME2 crew.

Not to mention that I think that it's more about convenience than anything, because I doubt they can give every single character just as much importance to the plot without it feeling forced.

That said, most of the ME2 squad will appear like Mordin and Legion did and help out from time to time. Sometimes, they have pretty important tasks.

Like Thane, who *spoiler*prevents an assassination on one of the Councilors. While being very ill from his syndrome to the point where he almost needs a respirator or something like it to help him breathe.*spoiler*

They might not all have a permanent spot on the squad, but that doesn't mean BioWare aimed to make them all pointless or redundant.
