Pretzel shaped female bodies =bad. Hunchback idle male stance = bad. I could go on but it boils down to =BAD.

Bioware definetly needs to smooth out the radical transition from "short human with pointy ears to what the hell is that giant eyed thing with the funny nose?"

It's definetly a problem of extremes, they went to one side then the other, if they can find a good middle ground on the design it'll be fine, felica day's elf was more the right direction to go in

I don't think the new look of the elves looks bad. I think their heads are a little too big for their body, but I like the overall look they have and appreciate how different they look from humans.

Marvin_Arnold--I can see both sides. Whereas you may not see the argument that DAO elves look like humans with pointy ears...it is still a valid argument:

What I am trying to get at is that the devs have stated the new art design will stay. My initial reaction to the new design was like yours...not favorable at all. It wasn't until I saw it in DAO that I could see it's potential since we have been told it's staying. And because of how it looks in DAO is why I can accept it.

Then I hope they reconsider. This is the only attractive elf in this thread.

I like elves to not just be "pretty humans with pointy ears" so I vote DA2, but the design still needs some work. I don't think everything needs to look sexy or pretty either, so I find the "But some of them are ugly!!!" argument silly. Not to mention a lot of the humans are just as ugly. Heck, looking at some people's screenshots, most custom characters are too ugly to be considered human.

One thing I hope they get rid of is the need to give all the non humans these bright neon eye colors.

They also need to tell the elves to take their fingers out their mouths and eat something because they were far too thin, which made some of their heads look dis-proportioned from their bodies.

Also the whole no shoes thing, scrap that too.

I don't mind some of the elements to the new elves, though I do think they're too thin looking for their own good, neck to head ratio seems a bit....off.

Kind of reminds me of those aliens from Kamino from Star Wars Attack of the Clones.

Is there a way to marry the two? I kind of like the more classical fey facial structure, but gods, it's no wonder we never see fenris without clothes. Merrill looks like the worst kind of anorexic, gah! It'd be nice if they could be filled out a little and be slightly less.... I don't know... Schmegally(sp)? That's what they remind me, of an upright walking Gollum(sp) from the LOTR movies.

DAO: Generic fantasy elves.

DA2: An attempt at being more original, but an absolutely poor one. DA2 elves are just...bad. Things become generic for a reason, mainly because they are good. This attempt at recreating the elves failed imo, as they just look horrid from an artstyle standpoint.

Also, has it been confirmed by any of the devs that the artstyle is written in stone? If so, woulld it be possible for a provided link?

well, I know David Gaider said the Elves are staying in the DAII style in the "Will Bioware change the elves back?" thread in the Story section.

Elves are described to be humans with pointy ears thats why i dont like the da2 style, they arent elves anymore. The next thing they could change to make things more unique is to make a beardless and a taller dwarf.
There are simply some clichés you cant change, when they didnt liked how the elves looked, they could simply have let them out of the game and could have made an entire new race.

No they weren't.

Their game. Their incarnation of elves. Their decision.

They're allowed to change it if they want to. It's not like they started demanding all Elves that anyone ever uses look like this.

Still if they didnt wanted them to look normal/pretty they should have let them look ugly in dao but in dao lore they are described to look attractive to humans and i wouldnt call their new look attractive

Yes thats true,
Except the witcher 2 i dont know any game with pretty normal looking elves. skyrim has some fugly elves and i fear that bioware is still going to make them more ugly.:crying:

I don't care about ugly, but they should have some character. Some that a human viewer can relate to. Not look like aliens.

If they were such a "different species", you couldn't cross-breed them with humans with so little ill effect. ;)

On a related note, poll results are in.

I also wonder how nobody ever complained that "DA:O Dwarfs are just short stocky humans with an alcohol problem."

And there aren't even "half-dwarves" in DA lore.
