I'm surprised no one modded Samara's suit zipped up. I'd have been all for it.

Agreed.

I'm pretty sure they have actually.

I'd love to find it, then.

For those derailing the topic, I strongly suggest getting back on topic.

I haven't seen one of her own outfit, but there are mods that give her a different, zipped-up  outfit.  My Samaras never leave the ship without it.

the one I downloaded is:  social.bioware.com/project/3483/

So are Asari basically just sort of fan service race?
No, Asari characters have qualities beyond their looks but things like IMO poor taste regarding outifts of major NPC character like Samara makes it really easy to seem them just a fan service race.

Yup.  Put Samara in an outfit that actually fits the character and the situation, and she becomes a character that can be taken much more seriously, a much less fanservice-y character.

Same as any other character

She can be taken seriously regardless. It's your choice as to whether you will.

You realise that applies to anything? Samara could be running in the battlefield with Asari Composite Longbow  of Lovw +5 and shooting pink dildos with it. It's player to choose if they take it seriously or not.

Indeed. It would be an interesting exercise to find out why that was taking place.

Let's say I find her manner of dress entirely incongruous with her character, and leave it at that.

While I think there are people who might be really interested going to backgrounds and fans dedidated enough to make whatever fanwank story how it "totally makes perfect sense". I think most people wouldn't be jumping into that camp.

She was dressed to be sexy and I understand the intent behind that. I'm an artist myself and the urge to embellish is great when dealing with the figure. But in this case character design should be informed by characterization.

I used the texture pack above. It's awesome.

I didn't get it because of cleavage, just because it looked badass. 0_0

All you soccer moms are getting your fannies up in a fit.

True enough, but the whole "charging into batttle popping out of my armor" thing makes that choice more difficult than it needs to be.

Nah, I got the point. I just sidetracked a bit.

I tend to do that a lot.

Also I skipped 10+ pages because I can.

Fan Service? Really? - Every female in ME is a 14yr old fantasy - (except perhaps Benezia - when I had my first qlimpse, I wasn't sure if it wasn't just a close-up of some itinerant plumber...)

I'm cheered every time there's an attempt at aging a character - Chackwass, May O'Connel, Kenson, etc. - just which they all didnt have SwimSuit Annual bods - I suppose if you wanted to press the point, you could argue - improvements in human health are responsible for uniformly large breasts, narrow waists, and rounded butts, and the lack of "genetic diversity explains why every asari and quarian female comes out of the same cookie cutter

Personally, I'm holding out for that Krogan princess, but if she too is 38-24-36, I'll be looking up Hanar on the date board...

And as far as Samara is concerned, my biggest beef is the shiny ceramic glaze that substitutes for realist skin texture...the cleavage is just more of the same riduculousness that includes the absence of battle armor and protective gear in favor of come-hither fashion statements.

Well I think that if BioWare made all the Asari ugly hags the sales figures and fan numbers would just skyrocket!

in the ME games the women don't have large breasts at all :?

well yeah there's a few blatant exceptions, but the default female model actually has quite small ones, unlike *cough* dragon age 2 *cough*

There is much room between the two extremes but why do that? Just put back in options to customise squadmate armour and that's it.
