Well I think that if BioWare made all the Asari ugly hags the sales figures and fan numbers would just skyrocket!

There is much room between the two extremes but why do that? Just put back in options to customise squadmate armour and that's it.

I was being sarcastic.

But customisable squad armor is a good idea, isn't it back in ME3 or am I imagining things again?

Yeah, no need to make them ugly. Just give them some clothes.

I recall I read that there would be something like that, but I'm not entirely sure.

Same.

It's a very nice feature, but if it isn't included, Texmod will stop me from caring too much.

It's clear the Asari straddle the line of being a legitimate literary concept and blatant fan service. Thus Liara was born, a decent character with believable motivations. Then along came Samara. I get the impression that the writers took a long hard look at Liara and realized she was basically fan service. So they set about creating a more credible character, one who had a compelling past and more believable motivations, one who had strict morals, a rigid personailty, and most importantly, one we couldn't do the Asari black-eyed romp with.  Samara was a step in the right direction. If she doesn't play a significant role in ME2, if she isn't a crew member, it will be a lost opportunity imo.

Liara was fan service?
If LIARA, an interesting character and the most likable ME1 squaddie (well, perhaps tied with Wrex and Kaidan), was fanservice, then what does that make Samara? Super MILF fanservice times Over 9,000?

You forgot to put Image IPB since I seriously don't find Kaidan or Liara as appealing as Wrex or Samara.

I won't bother to look it up, but the lead artist at Bioware basically said the Asari were fan service. I'm not bashing Liara per se, I'm claiming Samara is a better depiction of the race and moves farther from the fans service line...despite her cleavage, which unsurprisingly has derailed this thread time and again.

Of course they're fan service

Who cares

But they're also incredibly important in the series and not just "OH NO I DROPPED MY PEN"

The idea I get on BSN is that Liara is hated by practically everyone :crying:

Though Bioware have figures saying most people saved Ashley on Virmire so she's more liked than Kaidan.

For the record, it's a little clear (or should be) that Liara isn't a great representation of her species (after all, she was usually alone until the events of ME1). But neither is Samara, which is clear after seeing the way other asari react to her on Illium.

There are also NPC's non recruitable characters Aria and Tela Vasir.

EDIT 2: Well, it's actually ME novel Retribution is that provides background to character.

Nope, I think there were tweets about this.  SHep's armor gets customized same as ME2, though with more options.  Squaddies get reskins, just like ME2

This made me very sad:(

I honestly looked at Aethya as the most accurate representation of the Asari.

But as I'v understood the Samara mod is basically reskin too, because actual character model isn't changed?
If so, then there might be some hope left.

She was the most popular ME1 love interest, but I'm not sure how many people cheated on her.

After I saw how huge Captain 'Roid Man Vega was, I figured squadmates would get unique body shapes again and I doubt they would put many resources into customizing them.

What I mean is we won't be able to design our own outfits fro Samara, or any other squadmate for that armor.  WE'll be stuck with whatever Bioware decides is "iconic' for the character.

I mean, what's the difference between Samara's regular outfit and her loyalty outift?  Coloration.

I think some diversity is good so it won't be like race = personality.

Yes, but I was referring to this: http://social.biowar...m/project/3483/
Isn't that her default outlook customised by modder?
Sorry I must ask all these questions but I really don't know how modders work with ME2.

But that coloration is the difference between Samara looking like a **** (Black), and Samara looking like a hooker (Red).

Are you new to the whole internet thing? Sarcasm is notoriously difficult to discern in text. That's why people tend to use /sarcasm tags.
