Fair enough, but every other asari in the series has been presented as such including Aethyta and Samara, though perhaps not Aria. As for Liara breaking the mold--I don't know--I assume that's probably because virgins make more accessible and less threatening love interests. It gives her that "only girl that's not a ****" status so coveted by impotent, self-decieving beta males.

Do we know for a fact that they all do that? We know Liara hasn't; how many Liara's are there out there?

Aethyta seemed to think so.  And the other asari didn't take her too seriously.

Suddenly, you realize that games and fiction in general is made so people like it... and that calling one thing a fan service is pointless - it's all fan service. Mind equals blown.

Intelligent and philosophical storyline?  Brainfap.

Several touching moments with endearing characters?  Heartfap.

Pretty graphics?  Eyefap.

Awesome soundtrack and SFX?  Earfap.

Smooth, reactive controls?  Thumbfap.

Alien booty?  Uhm... ******-******.

A PLEASURABLE FULL-BODY EXPERIENCE.

Sales skyrocket = corporate profitfap.

Is it really necessary to reduce everything enjoyed ever by anyone to some kind of equivalence to masturbation?

Nope.

But it was kind of fun anyway.

It's clear the Asari straddle the line of being a legitimate literary concept and blatant fan service. Thus Liara was born, a decent character with believable motivations. Then along came Samara. I get the impression that the writers took a long hard look at Liara and realized she was basically fan service. So they set about creating a more credible character, one who had a compelling past and more believable motivations, one who had strict morals, a rigid personailty, and most importantly, one we couldn't do the Asari black-eyed romp with.  Samara was a step in the right direction. If she doesn't play a significant role in ME2, if she isn't a crew member, it will be a lost opportunity imo.

IMO Samara was the least interesting crew member in ME2. I'm not sure why you think a nerdy scientist is more fan service than a well-stacked, hard-arsed, arse-kicker. Bizzare. But yes overall the asari do come across somewhat as fantasy sex aliens.

Would have to nominate Kasumi for least interesting - (though I do like what we get of her personality) - no build up to her LM - canned quips therafter - no further interaction or char dev.   Good in a fight, depending on what you're facing - not much else.  Zaeed is next - by virtue of moral choices on his LM and generally better casual dialog.   Samara fits in here for me just below Grunt and Thane - not a big Thane fan - his anti-depressant meds work about as well as  mine...

Kasumi and Thane do well enough for not being allowed fully into the game...

The asari exist purely to satisfy the masturbation fantasies of the audience. That's why Samara is dressed the way she is. There is no other reason. It detracts from her (boring) character.

Dunno, man.  If we both get drunk at the same time, we might accidentally grind out the Unified Quantum Theory.

I don't think the world is ready for that.

You are on the bsn, here. Don't bother to ask the question.

And now, this is the same people who want to write the main plot for M3, or to be listened and followed by Bioware.

I hope they see why, they must don't give a crap about what they think.

Oh, did you have to say 'grind'?

hate grinding.

Besides, we'd probably get through String Theory first.

Also next character basher gets a boot up his ass.  Sh*t's old, guys.

Just a boot? How about their own skull instead, firmly attached to the spine and all that flesh around it?

"Journey into the body", indeed...

I think we need to call that paper 'TL;DR: Advanced Physis in a Nutshell'.

I'm not so much a character basher in general. More like a character polisher, and some characters need more polishing than others.

Rub rub, Lieutenant

You can detract from any character, even a boring one. Samara has character, it just isn't interesting or compelling to me. The fact that she is designed to be a sex object as far as looks go just makes me like her even less. So it detracts from her.

If she had good visual design I could just say she was boring and leave it at that.

Well, I feel Samara is the one of the best characters in ME2. No surprise judging by my pic. But as much as I love cleavage, I would like to not be distracted by her chest. It feels like there are two contrasting characters in one body: 1) Uber-powerful biotic knight, and 2) sexy Milt (Matron I'd Like to Take-out-on-a-nice-date-perhaps-dinner-and-a-movie.

Jokes aside, I'd like to see a more covered Samara. Leave the cleavage for the Cerberus Cheerleader.
