Why is it people don't want charaters to look good?

Looking good and looking practical are not mutually exclusive.

Examples:

Kaidan's new armor (not Ash's new outfit, though)
Liara's LOTSB armor (lack of helmet notwithstaning)
Shepard's armor
Miranda's AAP armor (again, minus the helmet)
Garrus's armor

Samara's barriers are going to be extremely formidable. Actual combat risk is minimal, and asari prefer to wear light outfits during battle for maximum mobility (the commandos just seem to wear leather).

This. In fact asari commandos should have been the strongest fighters in the galaxy, but gameplay and the always changing lore makes sure that this doesn't happen. We have to remember that biotics are the most formidable warriors, and that asari can live up to 1200 years and are naturally biotics. All those years of training...

You'd think in those hundreds of years they'd learn the value of having a passive layer of protection to augment their barriers, deal with ambushes, protect against environmental hazards, etc.

But... that wouldn't be sexy, would it?

Asari commandos wear armor...

And so they do.  Most of them even know to zip up the part over their chest and neck...

Like who?

Whats saddening is that people care more about the breast of Samara and all the chicks than the personality and the wonderful character behind it.

Not as sad as the severely repressed people who go to insane lengths to convince themselves that the gorgeous semi-naked lesbian human they're looking at isn't really naked or a lesbian, or even human, so it's okay to look at her.

People really can be that simple minded,  sadly. I would also  argue that  the Asari;  use there appeal, to their advantage. Mirandas appeal is not just pysical, its also the accent. I suppose that was the point, her father did want her to be perfect.

Samara is one of the more respectable characters. The greater good over personal feelings, older, wiser, and overall less  of a sterotype.

Samara should have been romancable for one reason only;  so Lira could call shep out on it :bandit:

Legion: "To apply another species ethics to another is racist"(im am paraphrasing here i can't really remember)

"No two species are identical. All must be judged on their own merits. Treating every species like one's own is racist. Even benign anthropomorphism."

That's a great line by Legion.

It is a great line, and I think it makes sense in real world scenarios.

However the asari were developed to titillate players by virtue of being blue alien supermodels. With that in mind it is both reasonable and commendable to judge them with the knowledge that they are fiction created to a purpose.

Lol, that was my example, sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying otherwise, that they didn't use that kind of armor.

Personally I dislike it. It's moral relativism as it's basest even though the Geth advocate a pan-species ideology of development.

It's one of those lines that sounds nice, but is meaningless in practice. It invalidates all standards of measurements of a group other than the ones of its own creation... but such self-evaluation is hardly objective nor does it have any standard compared to others.

There's something seriously wrong with an abstinent religious zealot warrior monk dressing in that trashy impractical outfit on missions while her sociopathic hedonistic sex crazed murderous daughter wears proper military attire as casual clothes.

If Morinth wore that outfit after recruitment in missions then killing Samara would've been a no-brainer.

Both of 1 and 2 look GOOD. Though one of them looks silly, guess which.

Actually, I think they should both wear some armor or something, and I got the AAPs just to do something about that.

Maybe not "religious zealot", but "warrior monk" and "abstinent" describes Samara perfectly.

Well probably not religious, but I would sure not take the word ''zealot'' out of there.

Religious zealot? No. She's a monk of sorts. Self imposed discipline.

The closest thing to a religion would be her Code, and she's pretty damn zealous in following it, sure.

Truth is, I'd rather Samara buttoned up as well - it seems more consistent with her personality -

And thus my complaint about Samara.  She's an interesting and well-done character overall, but that outfit is... just not a match for that character.

I actually agree with this. My strategy is to use one's own morality, but to take into account that which is physically better and/or makes more sense for other species if necessary.

She is committed to it, but she doesn't dismiss any other moral values or what is actually right and wrong, she does what the code says because she is a Justicar, she made an oath and she respects it. That's what she says "Do I really need to know he is a devoted father?" She knows that this could distract her, because she knows that killing isn't good.
