thanks to the community here, i have managed to clear-up a lot of my build headaches. now the EDM question is less of an important issue to me, but i have 2 other minor issues, was wondering if anyone could help me on :-

deity

1) is there a way or option to change your deity by way of legit gameplay through the OC, the 2 expansions, or mysteries? i don't mean using console or toolset. let's say i was a paladin of torm, but now fallen. and i really want to serve bane lol. any option by gameplay, interaction with npcs etc. etc. to do this?

lay-on hands

2) Arkalezth remember the lap-over of divine issues i was asking?  well my question is on lay-on hands. u get it at DC 1 or Paladin 2. this is a pretty stupid question, but was just wondering if u happen to know, i haven't started playing the game. wiki says u r given 1 ability. if u were a paladin2, and THEN a dc1, the effects stack ie. as in class levels. my question is, what if u were a dc1 and THEN a pal2, would the result be the same? i think they do, but i just wanted to confirm, for peace of mind. i can't enter the game as yet.

thanks.

1) Divine classes force you to take a deity close to your alignment, so as an example, if you are now, let's say, lawful evil, and take a cleric level, you'll have to pick a different deity (since you have paladin levels, I'm not sure if you could pick any or just a lawful neutral one available to paladins). Also, rangers, druids and spirit shamans can only choose a nature deity, so bane is out for them. If you don't take another level in a divine class (blackguard doesn't count) I don't think you'll be forced to change deities.

2) If they stack, they stack, no matter the order in which you take the classes.

1) oh there is no way to just change my deity, without consideration to classing? like, if i'm a level 30 fighter, just stop believing in Talos one day and start worshipping Tempus. If my chosen deity does not affect gameplay while i'm halfway through the OC (if i'm not advancing as a paladin, cleric etc.), then i guess i can just use the console or edit my character between Acts.

2) oh good. thanks

1) Yes, you'll have to use the console or something. I have no idea of the correct command.

haha just an example ...
i wonder how many people on faerun actually worship Lord Ao

another minor question on feats : in nwn2 builder it says great smiting I adds x2 char levels to smite damage, and every subsequent rank u buy adds another char level in bonus damage. so at Great Smiting X, u add x11 char levels ie. + 330 dmg at level 30, right? or does smite X add x10 (300 dmg)? my interpretation might be off.

I'm no expert on smiting, but if I'm not mistaken, each Great Smite adds your class (not character) level to damage, but only from those classes that can smite normally. So a pure level 30 paladin would add +30 per each Great Smite.

Now, I'm not sure how class stacking works. Paladins can smite evil, blackguards can smite good, and divine champions and Destruction domain clerics can smite anyone with a different alignment (Smite Infidel). I don't know if all of those stack, or just certain combinations, maybe someone else can confirm it. If not here, I'm sure someone at nwn2db can.

Apparently there's a significant minority of Aoists (or whatever they're called); however, unlike the priests of other gods, they receive no spells.

i'm pretty sure great smite calculates total character levels, just that the description for Great Smite I  says u add x2 character levels to start off with. an additional rank of great smite adds another multiple of one so i'm wondering if i am calculating correctly.

but read this thread here, a bunch of people arguing over wiki's description. maybe they are not playing the OC, have different server rules or something :-

http://dalelandsbeyo...ins-and-smiting

it's true what the guy says, wiki's description is misleading, not too good. nwn2 builder's description is better :-

Type of Feat: Epic

Prerequisites: 21st level, Cha 25, Smite Good, Smite Evil, or Smite Infidel.

Specifics: Whenever the character makes a successful smite attack, it adds two times the character's level to damage. This applies to the Smite Good, Smite Evil, and Smite Infidel feats. This feat may be taken multiple times, up to a maximum of 10 times - each time adding additional damage equal to the character's level to the smite attack.

Use: Combat Mode.

so, at Great Smite X (assuming u r lev 30), shouldn't u be doing +330 dmg instead of what most ppl think +300? what worries me is that the first guy said great smite bonus damage when activating smite infidel only counts divine champion levels as opposed to total char levels.... i hope this is not true in official nwn2.

wiki's trying to say 'u can take the FEAT a maximum of 10x'
not 'the maximum bonus u can get being 10x ur char level'    lol.... it should be 11x ur level

Presumably you will already be getting +your level from Smite, then another 1-10x your level from Great Smite. I'm also not sure why it would add your character level rather than your class level, because a Paladin 1/Anything else 29 could get 30th-level Paladin smiting quite easily. I'm not saying it doesn't do that, though; I honestly couldn't tell you.

Then it would be +30 per Great Smite (300 if you can take GSX), plus the normal smite. I think. As I said, I've never played a pure smiter. You'd be better asking in the builder site or in the forum in my sig.

yes fred, i'm given the impression that all smite damage, normal or great smite, are bonus damage calculated separately and then added together to a single melee attack, when u activate the smite good/evil/infidel feature. the calculation under the Great Smiting feat description deals with only the great smiting portion of the bonus u will be getting, it is then added to what u would be getting from normal smite, and then to ur weapon damage etc etc.

i'm assuming great smite bonus does not superceed smite bonus.

fred, on the Paladin 1/Anything else 29 thing u r right. normal smite counts class levels (except for pal + divine champion they r in synergy, as per discussions in wiki). i was discussing great smiting, which calculates using character level. btw it's not easy cos it's an epic feat which only shows up when u r levelling specific classes at that epic level-up, requiring cha 25 + any smite. since everyone has only 5 free feats to choose from anything at char levs 21-29, if you want to achieve Great Smite X by level 30, u have no choice but to level something like divine champion (10) from 20-29 or 21-30 specifically, for the other 5 feats. that basically swallows up all the epic slots a level 30 char can have.

so concerning the Great Smiting portion of the bonus, how can it be 1-10x your level, or 300? here let me show u guys what i mean :-

Great Smiting I x2 (when u first take this epic feat, u get +TWO times char level bonus)
Great Smiting II x3 (an additional +one time your char level bonus)
Great Smiting III x4 "
Great Smiting IV x5 "
Great Smiting V x6 "
Great Smiting VI x7 "
Great Smiting VII x8 "
Great Smiting VIII x9 "
Great Smiting IX x10 "
Great Smiting X x11 !!! "

30 x 11 = + 330 coming from ur great smiting X feat. and more to follow from normal smite + charisma bonus ....etc.. (if great smite bonus does not 'replace' smite bonus)
