Hello all.

This thread was called Dragon Age: New Campaign Location Tutorial but since I now have 2 Addin tutorials and am building up a series that will allow noobies to make their own addins for Dragon age just like Wardens keep, I am reorganizing this thread too.

All Tutorials in this series can be found on my website in the Dragon Age Section.

Here is a quick link.

The series currently consists of these noobie friendly tutorials.

Addin Tutorial Part 1: World Editing and Area Creation

Explains in how to add map pin to the world map so you can go to your own area and explore it just like Biowares own DLCs allow you to do. Explains how to set up an area and link everything up.

Addin Tutorial Part 2: Level Creation

This covers interior and exterior level design, lighting, pathfinding, linking up of levels and a number of other things.

Enjoy

Might want to point out that "export with dependant resources" MIGHT export bad stuff to your packages/core/override folder that you need to clear out.

EDIT: and I'm glad my pin list was useful to someone :)

Hello eiham :)

So it was your pin list :)
Yes it was very handy but im working on ways to make that trail more accurate, but it saved me a lot of time, thanks :)

Not sure about the "bad" stuff you refer too but if you have any info on it, I'll watch out for it and insert some details about it in to the tutorial. I am currently working on a level tutorial. My notes for it are at the link below.

I am having a lot of success but if you look at my blog, you will see i still have a long way to go before im ready to write that second part.

Btw I have read almost everything on the wiki now, only a few tutorials still to read and the user added content has so far been the most useful IMO.

typically it's the *.plo files that get exported and conflict with the main game (followers disappear and some no longer recognize tyhe fact that you've recruited them, etc). Check out here:

Thanks eiham, I'll take a look at that.

Though I should add, the tutorial covers new content, not the editing of older original content and so far I have not see the issue you speak of in my own tests. It might become a problem later when I start making quests so I'll keep my eyes open for it and note down when and where it happens if the toolkit has not been updated before then.

Thanks again for the heads up mate :)

it's usually when you write scripts that it starts doing it (or at least in my experience when exporting scripts it always ends up exporting like 80 files)

Yes. Exporting scripts with or without dependencies can screw over your game. You just have to clear out the documents/bioware/dragonage/packages/singleplayer/override folders to be careful.

Also make sure in new modules module_core is removed from the script part in the module properties.

That said, great read and tutorial Giskard! A lot of the stuff in there I was struggling with.

Thanks Gav.

I am struggling though the level editor right now, same sort of deal, trying to make it noob friendly is my primary goal.

So its the scripts ay, I am heading down that road so I'll have to accidentally on purpose make some mistakes and see what happens for my self. Its the only way to learn the work arounds for that sort of stuff.

If you do not mind me asking, what is the nature of the issue with module_core ?

I see it in module properties and can see i have to first load the module in to the toolkit before i can change it. But have no idea why its there.

I will admit, I have not even gotten to the packaging part yet but I have read some interesting articles on folders and stuff already that I might adopt if it works as others have stated. Keeping the override folder nice and organized seems like a good idea to me.

Okay some notes here.

First I am finishing up the Level design tutorial for interior and exterior levels, it was another tutorial that demanded a lot of research but this time many others have covered the same ground so they made many parts of it easier. Again this is aimed at complete noobies and should give you an insight in to the toolkits functions.

Its a follow up to this tutorial so you can keep on reading and make your own wardens keep sort of thing now. Creatures, quests and dialog are for the future. I may even rename this tutorial so they appear to be part of a series of similar tutorials.

Something like My Tutorial part 1, My Tutorial part 2 blar blar blar

Also a word of warning to follow up what eiham said. When exporting with dependances or anything else. The toolkit exports more than it needs too. The resulting excess files are dumped in the following folder usually. Since anything found in there on my computer is from my own work, I usually delete the lot but you may want to check what else is in there before you go deleting anything.

Addin Tutorial Part 2: Level Creation Released.

See the first post for a link where you can find all my Dragon age tutorials.

Part 2 explains level design for interior and exterior so any noobie should be able to create working levels they can explore. It covers the basics needed to get you going and lets you take it from there.

Part 1 was hard work to research, part 2 even worse but I think the reader will have a much easier time than I did.

Now I am going to take my Man Flu and go and suffer on my counch :)
