Sonic seems overrated. It feels like its almost on rails to me.
But hey, to each their own.

Overrated? The series is widely panned. There's lots of love for the older Genesis/Mega Drive titles, but most recent Sonic games are cited as truly horrible experiences. Sonic Generations is an aberration in that it's actually pretty good.

I couldn't disagree more with the on rails comment. There are moments when you hit a loop or a literal rail and don't have much control of the character for a brief period, but the levels have a lot of freedom overall. There's usually multiple paths to take, and hitting the swiftest finishing times necessitates exploration. After the first few levels, careless zipping about tends to get you killed. If it looks like someone is cruising through a level it's likely because they memorized them and are really good at the game. It just takes a different approach than say, a Mario title.

But like you wrote, to each their own.

Hey, if your instincts tell you isn't your cup of tea, it isn't. I wasn't seriously criticizing you in my first reply. It was intentional melodramatic hyperbole. If you do get one of the older games, however, Sonic 2 comes highly recommended by many. I personally prefer the original, but it's admittedly simpler.

The original Sonics were some of the best 2D platformers ever.
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 got it right.
Everything else besides Generations suck.

Do you ever look at D2D or Amazon? I use all three myself. Fifty percent off Sonic Generations and Shogun 2 in downloads on Amazon this week. If you like rts games and don't have Shogun 2 yet, i'd recommend getting it.

If you haven't played any TW games, I would suggest Rome as that game is more forgiving. Your enemies are more aggresive in Shogun 2 and money doesn't come as easily.
