AC Revelations officially won. Looks like Rockworm's dream came true tonight.
Is it worth $13.59? I've never played any of the Assassin's Creed games, so I'm not sure what to expect. Is it a stealth game, like Thief?
I know Ubisoft is known for draconian DRM - it doesn't require some sort of GFWL account, does it?

I think it is. But I would suggest playing the earlier games (you can skip the first one though) as the story does tend to be a bit overblown and way out there. Its a stealth game but nothing like theif. Its more stealth-action as one mission will require you to sneak in to kill your target and others will have you fight throw enemies. The combat is some of the best in the business (only rivaled by the Arkham series in my book) and there is a Ubilauncher DRM but its not nearly as bad as GFWL at least in my experience.
Unfortunately my wallet cannot afford even that much so I'm setting my sites down lower. Legends of Grimrock, Terrarria, or Payday the heist. Before I make my choice I'm curious about Payday. I heard its fun with friends and a lot of my Left 4 Dead buddys have it but I don't see them playing it ever.
Grimrock looks good and i know I'll enjoy Terraria.

If you are new to Steam, maybe check out some of the publisher package deals.
There are a bunch of these priced around $50 including lots of heavily discounted games. A couple of those will put a big fat backlog in your inventory like the rest of us.
I'm really brand new to STEAM, and that really shocked me. 62 games for 50$? That's literally unheard of in console gaming, which is what I'm most familiar with.

I would look into anything you were interested in before but may have avoided due to its Steamworks DRM. It's hard to make specific recommendations without knowing what you're looking for. Steam's selection is huge and varied. RPGs only? Anything under the sun?
Yeah, I should've elaborated on that. Games that deal with mystery, crime, thrillers, etc. Genre's don;t matter since I'm all over the place in terms of genres. Games like Still Life
Max Payne 2
Indigo Prophecy
L.A. Noire
I think you get the point by now.
Also anything you think everyone should play, you can toss in too. I'm new to PC playing, so I've got catching up to do.

Also, in the vein of mystery/thriller, I highly recommend
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth ($5.99)
Penumbra Black Plague Gold Edition + Penumbra Overture (total $4.99)
Amnesia: The Dark Descent ($9.99)
Deus Ex GOTY ($5.99)
or perhaps Deus Ex package - DX GOTY, DX Invisible War, DX: HR + DLC (total $35.49)
If you like the cyberpunk and Bladerunner aesthetic, Hard Reset Extended Edition ($3.75) has some great environments and art direction, very fun gameplay and it's cheap as hell right now.

I love anything and all things Cyberpunk, so any games in that theme that are PC exclusives, throw 'em at me!
Try Hard Reset maybe? Its a PC exclusive sort of old school first person shooter with a sort of cyberpunkish aesthetic. I think it has a demo if you want to try it out. Its a very nice looking game.

So many damn tempting things, but my backlog is big enough as it is. I got CK2 and From Dust, unless something really good (and/or really cheap) comes up I think I'm going to save my money until the New Vegas DLC and Skyrim go on Daily Deal.

Just gave in and got Payday: The Heist. the 4 player bank robbery setting is enough for me and dl is almost done so I can be playing any minute now.
I'd be interested to know what you think of the game. I bought it as well, but put it in my trading inventory for the time being.

That said, I bought Legend of Grimrock so far. Hoping for a cheap Bioshock 2 as I've never played that, but with my luck the community will somehow go outside the three choices and manage to pick a Hello Kitty themed game instead.
I also hope Bloodlines will be discounted a bit more at some point. 15 euros for such an old game, on SALE, is really way too much.

Call of Cthulhu has shown its age but that shouldn't matter. The problem for me is there's a glitch in one of the later levels that can make it flat out impossible to progress. I gave up on it.
There are unofficial fixes, or you can download a save after that point. Personally, I'd go for the xbox version because that one definitely works. The PC version literally does not.

Liking it so far. Only one is an actual bank. There's enough variety in the missions to make it fun. Don't expect much though. I've heard it called Left 4 Dead with cops and robbers and thats pretty accurate. It has that director system L4D has and you and 3 others fight to do your objections against endless waves of police.

If you like old school twitch shooting you can't pass this up for under $4, seriously. It has good replay value if you want to play with all the weapons and they added challenge maps and new content in the EE for free. It's around 6-8 hrs long on normal difficulty, and it's brutal on the higher settings. The game is very well optimized too, so you get a crisp framerate even with a mid range PC. One of the devs hangs around on the Steam forums a lot, so they listen closely to fan feedback.

Played the demo. I'd buy it in a heartbeat but my current situation demands I be very picky. I chose Payday and thats as far as I can go with this sale. Maybe in a few days that will change. It sucks when under 4 bucks is looking to much. (might be heading to a bookstore to sell some books)

I see how Steam makes it's profits. With games these cheap they become impulse buys.

I think we all buy a lot of games we still haven't played, especially if you pick up a publisher package deal. In some cases, these are games we look forward to playing in the future, and in others they are simply some dogs that were included in a package along with some gems.
During last year's Summer and Winter Sales, the publisher packages were priced higher than $49.99, and some of them included more than 100 games. I bought the Warner Bros package which included all the all the FEAR games, Arkham City games, Bastion, LOTR War in the North, Terminator Salvation, and a bunch of Lego Harry Potter, Lego Batman etc. games, which I'm never going to play.
I suggest putting all the games you buy at a deep discount into your trading inventory. If you decide to play it, you can transfer to your game library, otherwise you can always decide later to trade for something else. (Keep in mind the publisher packages are bundled as one item in your inventory, however, so you can either trade the whole thing or add the whole package to your library.)

Gemini Rue is my type of game. I only purchased stuff I knew was right uo my alley. Still, I can see how someone would go on a crazy spree and wind up with things they normally wouldn't get. Me? I'm pretty damn happy with everything I've got so far.
