Hi all.  I have been slowly installing a variety of mods to the game, which for the most part have improved it quite a bit.  One area that I feel is lacking is item balancing.  Many really cool theme items just don't have usable value, and some of the DLC gear that you can get right away is over the top.

Is there a good mod out there to balance out items without using an overly heavy hand?  For instance, I installed the "Improved Atmosphere" mod and included the item modifications within based on the readme, but it seems like this mod just makes everything a lot stronger right away.  That isn't really what I am looking for.

Thanks for your input.

On my most recent PTs I've used the Winter Forge mod to adjust the stats on over-powered DLC equipment.

There's also the Upgrade Wand which, despite its name, can also be used to downgrade items. Basically you can use the Wand to change the level of equipped inventory, and you can go up or down between levels 1-7. (works only on stuff you have equipped, just to reiterate)

However, I know that this mod suffers occasionally from the dreaded invisible objects issue, so use with caution.

EDIT: Or you can install slinks' Ravage (Random Age) and level up all the monsters.  Then you can use all the overpowered weapons you want and still get killed regularly. Posted Image  Seriously, I'd recommend Ravage if you're venturing into the world of mods. Posted Image

Hmm, Ravage sounds intriguing. Is it compatible with Combat Tweaks? I like the idea of having the game match the gear. The reason I activated the Improved Atmosphere item modification portion was that I agree with its general premise that there are only a few items you really want, and once you have them you don't look for anything else. I just am not loving the implementation. For example, here are the stats on Morrigan's staff that she gets by default:

Grey Iron regular stats
+2 damage
+5% spirit resistance
+2 spellpower
+4 spirit damage

That seems like more than just balancing things out to me. One concern I have with something like Winter Forge is having to go through all the items myself. I just want them to be interesting on their own. For example, each time I get the Legion of the Dead armor set, I want to use it on somebody, but I don't because it would be a downgrade or strange setup (massive armor on a 2 hand user for instance with no fatigue modification). That's just one example.

Well, what Ravage does is (according to the parameters you set):
1) add more enemies & mobs of enemies
2) make them drop really random stuff that matches your level (so no insanely powered items too early, but you can try out different stuff all the time without being too imbalanced in your gear)
3) add *powerful* enemies

In fact, the mod recommends you *don't* use it during the origin (unless you want to fight a drake in Highever castle! or an Ogre at the entrance to the Tower of Ishal). Once in the mage origin (in the Fade), I was fighting skeleton archers before I even met the Spirit of Valor. It has levels 1-5, then and additional 'Nightmare' level of 1-5+. It can be brutal, and it drops so many weapons/items/armor that you won't ever need to buy anything (this can imbalance the game with gold when you sell the stuff, so be aware of that).  Because of this, its also recommended to just go ahead an add inventory slots with a mod, simply so it isn't too much of a hassle (since the inventory is kinda unrealistic anyway...  I mean, even with backpacks, no-one can really carry around that much armor realistically Posted Image)

Anyway, as for compatibility with Combat Tweaks, I personally wouldn't know because I don't use Combat Tweaks (though I've always meant to try it out). I would go to the link I provided and see what the project description says about it. I seem to recall other people who talked about it used Combat Tweaks with it, but unfortunately I don't know for absolute sure.
