We're working with Valve to correct this issue for Steam users.

Thank you, Mr. Bartel. That's good to hear.

Throwing down that I just got the game today and can't play it. I know you guys are working on it, and I appreciate it! Just wanted to be a squeaky wheel.

I was most upset. Was trying to power-game awakening before leaving town for Thanksgiving. So close to the final boss fight, I think.

Really upset Bioware Fubar'd my game.

Thanks for working on a fix. Maybe next time it should be a manual patch?

I think that suggestion would be best directed at Valve, since it appears to be manual for non-Steam users.

Any ETA out-o-curiosity? As in tonight a possible fix or no?

Yeah, that's precisely why we wanted to tackle this launch today rather than tomorrow. On the BioWare side, we're all Canadian and will be at work tomorrow just like any other day but the Valve guys will be down to a skeleton crew.

As for where things currently stand, we've been working with Valve and believe we've identified the problem. A new file's being pushed to their servers right now and, if all goes well, we should have this wrapped up within the hour.

In the meantime, you have our apologies for the disruption.

It is indeed possible to prevent Steam from patching games automatically. The thing is, "showstopper" patch bugs like this are uncommon enough to make disabling auto-updates drop off of folks's mental priorities list.

...and even with it getting back on the priorities list, quite a few of us would probably have seen a dialogue that said, "An update is available," and clicked "Ok" out of reflex. I know I would have.

Up and running on Steam now. Relatively fast response, I'm moderately impressed. Now let's see if my characters will actually start uploading now (doubt it though lol)

I suddenly feel thankful that Canadian Thanksgiving is in October. :D

Game won't start - I get the Dragon Age start-up window with : Configure/Support/Uninstall/Docs/Web/Exit, but

clicking on PLAY or CONFIGURE or UNINSTALL has no reaction. all other buttons work.

Win XP 32 bit

ps played for 3 hours earlier today (pre patch):pinched:

Um, I still don't have any indication of what the heck is going on.

My Play, Uninstall and Configure buttons are grayed out when I start the game.

Ditto - still FUBAR'd.  :crying:

However, the quick response above at least gives me hope that I can be back playing tomorrow.

My hopeful thanks to Rob and the team!

This is awesome...I just paid $30 bucks for a game that I can't play...every time I click "Play" nothing happens. And I bet if I try to get my money back I will be told "Nope...you can't do that"...only in the software industry you get shafted like this...any other business, if you want your money back for a product that doesn't work, you will get it, no more questions asked. Screw this, off to play a non-online game...at least I know those work because I'm the one patching when I want not some moron doing patching just before a major holiday.
