Hi, I was able to run the game pretty smoothly a few months ago, but now when I am trying to play the game again it lags (a lot) with the same setting that I used to play with.
I am still able to run other games without trouble though, like I can play with max effects (minus the anti aliasing) on Dragon Age 2 and face no lagging issues.

What might the problem be!!??? I really like the game and want to give it a 2nd play through lately badly D:

Thanks a bunch.

Which version of Mac OS X were you using back then, and which are you using now? What graphics card and CPU do you have, and how much memory (RAM)?

If you upgraded to Lion, it might be a memory issue - Lion by default takes up more than Snow Leopard. Having 4GB+ is recommended. It could also be an issue with graphics drivers... newer versions usually should bring improvements, but there are bugs or recessions sometimes.

Did you install any addons for Dragon Age? Those might alter its performance as well.

Dragon Age is very taxing on any system indeed. It is quite ironic that Dragon Age 2 runs much smoother. As a suggestion, you might want to install smcFanControl, this allows you to increase your Mac's fan speeds manually and can prevent overheating.

I'm using lion 10.7.2 atm dun remember about back then.

CPU: 2.66 ghz intel core i7; memory 4GB 1067 mhz ddr3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 300M 512 MB graphics

I tried to search up graphic drivers but it seems like my graphic card doesn't have a mac driver -_-
about addons i have the same addons as what i had months ago when it was running just fine.

And I'll look into smcFanControl. Thank you for your information!

Your CPU and memory are more than fine, the graphics card is a little on the low side... but that does not explain the performance drop.

It's likely that Lion is the cause (either 10.7.0+ or 10.7.2 specifically), if everything else is exactly the same as last time you played it. I do NOT recommend installing new graphics drivers manually unless you are a professional user. Updates will come via Software Update once Apple releases them.

We will also get a new patch for DA soon (it was already released for Windows yesterday), that might bring some improvements.

I don't think it's Lion.

I have been using Snow Leopard the whole time and had that issue, too. It got worse over several months.

After patch 1.04, I was able to play with all quality sliders maxed out on my MBP Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 4 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 9600M GT.

After some months, it took several seconds for an attack to "hit", and usually my character ended dead because of this. (same thing with health potions) Apparently, enemies didn't suffer from that lag...

No decrease in framerate, just lag. I had to lower the "graphic quality" slider for large battles because of the aforementioned problems. (the other sliders didn't seem to affect the problem)

Could the size of the savegames, which increases over a playthrough, be responsible?

I was assuming Shin had simple graphics lag, aka low FPS.

But combat lag as you describe it is indeed another great mystery of the DA engine... it occurs on Mac OS X and Windows, and on machines that way surpass minimum system requirements. I don't think it is related to savegame size, I've seen it happen when defending the castle gates with Ser Gilmore in the HN origin. If I had to guess I'd say it is the number of creatures in the scene and the AI work the CPU has to do.

Sadly I doubt we will see any major performance patch for it... well, maybe the computer hardware in a few years can brute force through it. ;)

What I'm having trouble with right now IS the low FPS issue.

Funny thing is, i did have Marvin's problem during my first play through, but it's non-existing now even when the frame rate gets real bad. It's kinda sad when my previous problem was solved now new problem surfaced; Can't fully enjoy the game whatsoever...

Yes, I should have added that it occurred in large battles. But I only noticed it towards the end of my last playthrough. Thinking of it, the problems might have started roughly after the 1.04 patch was installed. (1.04, however, fixed MY low framerate issue, which had started with 1.03...)
