The post is old and so I am a little bit confused whether to state my problem here but then I guess you won't kill me if I specify it. Perhaps you could help me?
Getting error like "unable to connect to the database. Run the toolset configuration..." I reviewed the Bioware wiki on that matter. Somehow I figured out, not sure if I am right but it is about changing the database directory. As my game is in my custom D: localization and I did not change the toolset directory from default (which is according to wiki, C:) while installing. And so going through instructions tried to do the back up:
http://social.biowar...kup_and_restore
Created the file and was about to change the SET TARGET=C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\tools\\toolssql\\Data into mine but couldnt find it anywhere.Found the one in the first line though.
So that is pretty much my problem at the moment unless I am trying the bad solution.
Can only add I did not experience any problems in the installation process.
I would really appreciate your help.

Maybe you can solve it quick and dirty by creating a directory-link from the commandline with mklink (see http://en.wikipedia....S_symbolic_link)

All right, thanks for the answer. I will try this as soon as I get how to do it properly. You could make it easier and just give me the formule. Perhaps this is trivial but my experience in this matter is equal to zero... I don't use cmd, well, to be honest - at all. Waiting for the response Ill be trying to move it further.

Depends a bit on your windows version and security features, but if available a directory link is prefered, otherwise use junction (a kind of shortcut). From the command shell (run cmd) issue the command

mklink /D "path_to_link" "path_to_real_dir"

or if that fails

mklink /J "path_to_link" "path_to_real_dir"

There is a wikipedia article on mklink

Thanks, it's just I do not neccesarily understand the difference between "path_to_link" and "path_to_real_dir". If you could explain it.
Also somehow I found this topic: http://social.biowar...d-611791-1.html
It appears that my missing file after patch was slightly renamed and thrown in other place. In fact was able then to end what I've started: http://social.biowar...kup_and_restore
None of the problems stated there occured, though nothing really in my point of view changed because am still getting the same error. Tried configurating the toolset, is what the error tells me in the first place anyway, though without any success as yet.

If you find a solution or if someone has one, I'd appreciate any information, as I too cannot get the toolset to work. Despite using it previously.

I tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling but I keep just getting this pop up:

Hopefully someone who knows more stuff will answer, but.....

I found a .log file and figured out what was missing/had to be done from that. If you have steam or were installing on a drive other than C:/ this is the kind of problem you can get.

I've now told you everything I know and wish you the best of luck!

Mademon, regrettably there is not a unique solution. The error message has been quite common in the past. Various reasons could lead to this message.

A complete wiki page has been dedicated to this error to help tracking down the possible reason more systematical: http://social.biowar...to_the_database

You didn´t provide much information. Steam? OS? And other parameters...
Windows 8 and SQL 2012 made the installation game even more inpredictable.

Check the steps described on the wiki page and try to exclude something. Provide additionally more information on your installation environment - that would increase the chances to get more concrete hints by others.

I will definitely go through that guide and provide more details if I cannot come up with a solution, however, I forgot that I had used the Toolset on my laptop previously (as well as my PC) and my laptop is still able to work // connect to the database. I didn't provide this update as it didn't seem relevant to the issue at hand, but I am more or less satisfied that I still have access to the application.

Also, I hadn't realized it was a common error that could relate to many things. c: I'll let you guys know if I have more trouble // get it working! Thank you Yara.
