planning to do a shapeshifter playthrough in the near future. i am aware it is not the best specialization, but this is just to try out new things compared to the usual arcane warrior and bloodmage. i intend to go into shapeshifter/spirit healer specialization for this playthrough and intend to use it more for debilitator purpose with shapeshifting mode as my main damage source. also i am intending to bring it over to awakening and use the keeper spec for a elf origin. i need some help with regards to stats destribution and equipment. i saw a post of someone trying use wades armour fire resistance to offset swarm form vulnerability to fire. but which is better? dragonbone plate, dragonscale or dragonskin? the form i intend to use the most will be bear and swarm form with spider form as my anti mage due to its ability of web, poison spit and overwelm. which weapon will be most suitable for this? saw a guide saying chasind great maul is best. is there other alternative? appreciate any help offered. my main concern is stats distribution and equipment. when posting, i hope you can explain the reason for your choice.

take note, i am aware of the bug with regards to spellpower not working properly for bear form and also i have complete all dlc that comes along with the ultimate edition, with all the equipment unlock. therefore, you can include all these equipment in your choice when suggesting.

I myself would choose a very high dexterity, and just enough strength for the wade's lightest armour (or no strength at all, if you would also choose the AW specialization but I advice against that)
A good helmet might be corruption, as it has a high dexterity bonus but it needs a, for a mage, high strength level
Not too familiar with the specialization myself but I have thought about starting one in the past too, but got distracted by the shear ownage of an arcane warrior tank (solo-ed all bosses in DAO and DAO:A at nightmare)

I always do high str for bear form, and equip a staff for 100% accuracy. Though if you plan to swap forms or at least spend some time in each form, invest in dex as well, though strength is very important as your main is bear.

Juggernaut armor/Dragon plate for its resistances. (Super helpful) I usually go for Final Reason as my weapon, though if you don't have access to it, you can always go with Harrowmonts staves/Oak Branch as they have decent bonuses without requiring a huge (essentially useless) magic investment.

I have done one run through of this and it works ok. Not overpowered like AW but decent in its own right. If anyone has more experience doing this, I'd welcome your input.

i am wondering what if i use nugcrasher or corrupted magister staff? the beauty about them is stun with 100mana or 100% paralysed, since those attributes are carried over in bear form and spider form. correct me if i am wrong. i had been considering juggernaut armour set with ring of age. another possibility is cailan armour with lifegiver for a whopping 8 health regen. this will allow me to stay longer in bear form. also cailan arm will allow swarm form to be used constantly as it gives 5 mana regen. with andruil blessing, a total of 7mana regen. this will allow shapeshifter to alternate between the 2. form. as for the resistance, i am thinking if it is possible to make the mage 100% spell resist? if use it on awakening, it is definately possible, 100% spell resist with high regen form. just choose spells that don't really required high spellpower and invest the rest in dex, strength and some con for sustainability. i think this will make shapeshifter more powerful. not sure how will spellpower affect the form much tho. i read in a guide, it said that spellpower improved the attributes of the form and another said that it is bugged, which is true?
