I tend to agree with you about happy endings in my entertainment.  But somedays I need a good cry as well. What Can I say....I loved Romeo and Juliet. Was thinking that DAO origin was onto something good especially for us girls.  At this point I hope that Bioware has read our many postings....and there's been plenty...so that they might give us more dialogue options and happier endings that don't include sharing our guy with someone else in DAO2.

I have  not played ME1 (is that Mass Effects you're talking about?)

Yes, Mass Effect and you get to keep your man in that one without him sleeping with someone. In fact the lead male love interest even turns down an offer for a threesome with you and another love interest. He's not interested in sharing you with anyone else or being with someone else other than you. In fact if you ask for the threesome he won't have anything else to do with you romantically.

It's just my opinion but personally I don't think you would ever see the him sleeping with someone to save your life or his own. He'd probably prefer to die with you in some form or fashion. I thought Alistair kinda jumped too quickly into bed with Morrigan myself. The kind of bantering they had between each other in various conversations always felt a little too much like an attractcion to each other they were keeping under wraps.

For example the one where he's staring at her nose and teasing her about it. It's too much like the little boy at school that has a crush on someone and the only way he knows how to show her that he likes her is by picking on her. That's probably just me but I know that after a few times of them going at it I stopped having the two of them in my party together.

I also took the bargain, and chose Anora as Queen.  I didn't tell him about the baby and I agree, if we were doing real reality the relationship would be over.  Not only will he be compairing my character to witch girl, but when he finds out she had his child he's going to be "unhappy" with the fact my character didn't tell him.

I think a guy wrote this part.  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]  girlfriend sends her guy to another girl for a one night stand to save his life.

I haven't finished the game as a guy yet, but it definately does not sound any better.

I'm also worried a bit about ME2.  That's one I've been playing for the last 2 years since it came out and I have sacrificed my love interest a few times, saved him and had no love interest.  I am just hoping for the best and trying not to think about the worst, and I also preorderd.

And I do like the game.  But after I've played all the roles I just don't think it will be the one I go to when I'm looking for a fun time.

I'm playing as a male character now and I'm going with Leliana over Morrigan. Going to get her the nug as a pet...it sounded like fun.

My hats off to you for being able to sacrifice your love interest in ME. I never could do it and I've got quite a few saves. Even when I played as a male I would choose Liara as a love interest just so I could save Kaidan over Ashley at Virmire.

If I'm being honest I'd have to say I like parts of the game but not all of it. The length of the Dwarf quest to get a new king drove me batty. And some of the side quests or parts seemed like they were just thrown in at the last minute especially Isabela and that card game at the Pearl. Why not have a real card game instead in order to win the right to get the duelist specialization?

But the worst issue is something they could fix with a patch. I've got the PC version and the endings are screwed up. Alistair thinks he's king even when you chose Anora. I kept thinking I'd made a mistake somewhere until I read on the board that this was a common glitch. But what really threw me was when Anora said something about Alistair giving his life and he'd be remembered along with the other Grey Wardens when I had taken the bargain. I wondered why Alistair wasn't there at the end. But when they start telling what happened afterwards you get the one where you and Alistair are together and rebuilding the Grey Wardens except for a short time when he goes to honor Duncan. A part of me wonders if they rushed to release the game before ME2 and in the process didn't test the PC version as much as they should have.

On the plus side I love the dialog with your party members both directly to them and between themselves. The characters are well thought out and interesting. I love the fact that you can give gifts to up the approval and not just have to rely on converstaion to intiate a relationship. The puzzles are fantastic even if they are few and I liked the riddles they used. I liked the Cousland, Mage, and City Elf Origins(I wasn't fond of the Dalish and I haven't tried the dwarf). There character creation is an improvement over ME...I can have more than just two attractive female PC's.  Well I guess I've rattled enough...back to my male character to see if it will go better with him than my female.

I played an elf mage. I didn't know anything about hardening Alistair -- I don't remember what I said during the Goldanna quest. I didn't feel like Alistair really wanted to be king, and I didn't think my PC was the type to shirk on an agreement, so I let Anora be queen. I offered to let Alistair be her husband, but he said I was too important, so I said to forget about it. I had 100% approval with Alistair.
After the coronation I got dialog like:

I was so scared that I might lose you,
At any rate, I can't wait to be alone with you.
I'll be wherever you are, so long as you'll have me. And quite frankly, I can't think of anything better than that.

Then I got some sad news at the very end before the credits.

Alistair remained in Denerim with his love for a time, much to Queen Anora's discomfort. He was eventually called to the far-off fortress at Weisshaupt, the home of the Grey Wardens, and swore he would return to his lover's side soon.

Hey, I would never have let him go off alone!

Yeah that was my favorite outcome too. Except that I decided to stay with the grey wardens as well. I picked that one, because he doesn't want to be king, I didnt feel like hardening him, because even as a human noble I didn't have much interest in the crown by the time. I mean I am a cousland sure.....apparently the last of my line, until my bro shows up so all pressure is off. I'll just go off to the grey wardens to just do what I seem to do best, kill gross ugly things, with my man by my side for the next thirty years until we head into the deep roads to have our final battle. Sure, not exactly what my noble probably thought her life would end up like...but what can you do. Might as well make the best of it. Anora wanted to be queen...let her have it...I have spent so much energy in the game solving everyones problems and then I have to go and fight the archdemon. I have neither the time nor the patience to put into forcing someone to be king.

On another note...I don't see the point in making him king...going through all the work to harden him and to win back his affection just to be his mistress. I mean come on, I had to let him sleep with Morrigan and KNOCK HER UP so that we could live...then I have to allow him to still get married and have more inimate relations so that he can have an heir? If my husband had suggested something like that back in the day...I would have said screw you and kicked him to the curb.

I understand that the whole point is to keep him...get the best possibly "happy ever after", but in real life I hope none of you ladies would go so far as to settle for mistress for a guy who says that he loves you, but is too concerned about what other people think to marry you. I know, its just a game...but still.

Ok....so I hardened Alistair...and we did the tent scene....Someone had suggest taking off the armor before you go to camp...I did....it was so much better....especially the kissing problems.

...

Is the "kissing problem" that glitch where Alistair is just standing there while the PC looks like she's kissing his ear? XD I was wondering if it was just me, but I couldn't find a thread about it.

Mine only did that right before the cut scene to the tent. Every other kissing time has been fine. He had his helmet on too....but to me it just looked like my PC was trying to cuddle him...cuddling in armour that must be comforting.

Yeah, that was really weird. It was supposed to be a kissing scene but Alistair was just standing there as if he were in the background like the rest of the characters. I restarted and removed the helmet before the scene to make it look a little bit less weird... though he was still standing there like nothing was happening. XD

:wub:We have it for the pc which I use and the xbox 360 which we both use and I have a game started on each of htem.  (ugh I think I just past the obsessed point).   I got it for the pc strictly for the mods and fixes.  I noticed the bit about Alistair talking about being king after we had decided to support the Queen.  It thru me off, so I'm looking forward to that fix also.  And a few others.

I do love the dialog and I adore Alistair and there is a lot of the game that I like, but what I dislike messes up my enjoyment a lot.  I'm hopeing someone will come up with something or bioware will give a dlc so I don't have to share him.

I agree the ME creation left a lot to be desired.  I didn't sacrifice my love interest right away.  It took a couple of play throughs and I always send him to the section where I don't have to watch him die.

Going back to work with my elf.  I think she's going to make a play for Zevran.

I agree.  I don't plan on any of my characters ending up as a mistress even if it's the King.  I may try it as the noble tp see what happens, but anyone else, My Alistair is not interested in being king.

I was thinking about what I would say if my husband asked me to have sex with someone I really really REALLY didn't like maybe even hated,  just so I would possibly live a bet longer, and it would not end well.

I so know what you mean about being beyond the point of obsession....

I completely hate Alistair right now.  I am playing Human Female Noble Rogue right now with Alistair unhardened.   I just completed the I'm queen and we touring the country ending.  So I decided to backtrack right before the Landsmeet where I decided just to make Al King.  I wanted to see if I could talk him into keeping me on without him be hardened.  I tried every dialogue option.  I have been rejected on so many levels....uggg!

If anyone has managed to save their relationship with Alistair unhardened, please let me know how you did it.

So far I have only been able to salvage relationship with Alistair hardened.

I've been able to do it.

Human Female Rogue, max persuasion, cunning in the 50s.
Went into the landsmeet with a unhardened Alistair.
Didn't support Anora, and talked to Alistair beforehand about how good a king he'd be.
When it came time to choose ruler talked to Alistair again to see if he's willing to be king.
Then selected that Alistar and I would rule together.

Afterwards he talks about being made king and getting engaged all on the same night.  There really wasn't any hint of a breakup.

Oh wait, jus reread.  Are you asking about staying with King Alistair if you aren't also Queen?  Because I think if you put Alistair on the throne alone, you can't maintain the relationship without him being hardened.  Because otherwise he'd have to get married to someone else eventually, and unhardened he's not comfortable staying in a relationship with you while he's going to marry someone else.

Yes, I thought I read somewhere that you could maintain a relationship with Al if he is not hardened. My cunning was only 48...maybe it was too low.  The only way I have been able to keep Al in a relationship if he is king  was by hardening Al. Which I did with Playing my Elf.

Maybe the answer is to be a bit sad and let him go. First time through I took Loghain and let him go. I wasn't thinking about him dying (didn't know about that), just that he would be a good king and should have his destiny.

You can be still Queen with unhardened Alistair ( I never hardened him to be honest), but You need very high cunning skill and yours Coercion skill should be on max level.

So far I had 3 different endings with Alistair as a romance option ( I have romance with him when Im playing as a human) and it was :

-Alistair died at the end, becouse he wanted not only to be a good King but also becouse he wanted to save my PC

-My PC died ( when I left Alistair outside the Fort)

-my PC married Alistair and become Queen ( fortunetly I found a way to kept Alistair alive without Morrigan's ritual, so now Im able to have really happy ending).

WHAT!?!  YOU MANAGED TO KEEP ALISTAIR ALIVE WITHOUT HIM BEDDING MORRIGANS???? Please do tell me how you managed that one.

I've managed to rekindle dead romance relationship by not using some of the dialogue options till after the fact.

All us girls would like to keep Alistiar living without him having to bed Morrigan.

Of course I can answer You but...You need to be a cheater ( and I know that a lot of ppl hate it)... There are two different ways for that and I checked them both ( and it worked for me).

Firts way

After talks with Riordan about sacrifice, Go outsdie Riordan's room. Now You have to use cheat like runscript zz_addparty Loghain ( it will add Loghain to yours team). Go back to Riordan's room and You should have dialog with Loghain about sacrifice..tell him that You will be glad if he will sacrifice himself :D . Talk with Morrigan, tell her that there will be no deal. Keep Loghain with You to the end of game. After killing Archdemon You will still have scene where yours PC killing Archdemon but at the end all Grey Wardens survived.

Second way

:

Looks like last checkpoint for main story is a door to the top of the Fort where You will fight against Archdemon. Simple trick is just NOT enter on the roof via door but just use another console option such: runscript zz_cli_debug then choose JUMP TO AN AREA -> JUMP TO DENERIM -> ON THE ROOF OF FORT DRAKON. That will allow You to enter into finall battle without passing door and without checkpoint. At the end You both survive and Alistair even havn't idea about Morrigan's ritual ( he said something like " looks like Riordan was wrong" or something like it, )

I love it...How very cloak and dagger. How did you come up wtih this option?

I've used health cheat alot because I suck at the big battles. and I also use the killallhostiles cheat when I want to see a different ending. But I have never thought to use those cheats that way.

I have managed to rekindle dead romance by not using some of the dialogue options till later. But have to admit that was pretty cool ideal.

Cheating? You just played the Kaptain Kirk option. You don't believe in a no win scenario.

thanks I'm gonn'a try it and see what I get.Posted Image

how? well I was thinking and thinking by all day :D and I just realize, that somewhere near at the end HAVE to be checkpoint for main story..so first think was, what will happen if I will have Alistair and Loghain both in my team. I thought, that maybe ( if I will add Loghain via console command) Morrigan will sleep with him instead of Alistair, but it don't work. So next option was to check who will die if I will have three Grey Wardens in team ( my PC, Alistair and Loghain). So I said Morrigan " no deal" and went to Denerim..and I had my first perfect ending :D Then, I realized that somewhere in Fort Drakon is main checkpoint, and I noticed that there's autosave right after door to a roof...and that was a way how I found last main story checkpoint. So I " teleported" my team on the roof and ...I had my happy ending again ( of course I tried go to the roof via door but it didn't end well for my dear Alistair). I posted first way on forum a few days ( or more) ago..but someone was very upset on me becouse of cheats so I kept silence...till now.
BTW second way is much easier, You just need to use cheat only once, just for teleporting party on the roof.

Okay...maybe the first option was a cheat....but the 2nd option was definately the Captain Kirk option.

I don't know why people have to get so upset about things. I have had some people upset with me because I use elipses (......) in my text. Seem pretty trivial.  Besides, if someone doesn't like that option...then they don't have to use it or even read it for that matter.

I still thinks its pretty cool that you even came up with the ideal.  Besides the poeple who get upset are usually the ones that wished they had come up with it first.Posted Image

I don't reallly have a problem with someone I love sleeping with someone else.

I'm not a believer in one true love or "One twu luv 4 eva" thing. I think loves meant to be found and shared. That being said the cut scene with Al and Mori was very cute, the way Al kept backing up on the bed as she crept closer. You could almost see him going, "This is not a dream, oh Maker why can't I wake up Now!" that and, "Just close your eyes and think of Ferelden"

Alistair also is someone who's almost completely incapable of deceit. He's open honest and essentially wears his heart on his sleeve. I think he would do his 'duty with Morrigan then run straight back to you begging for a bath and thorough scrubbing.

And if he does occassionalyly wonder about Morrigan in the wee hours of the night? Well, I'd forgive him. After all I'm still wondering how hard it is to pry Sten or Duncan or Bann Teagan out of their armour....

Maybe the answer is to be a bit sad and let him go. First time through I took Loghain and let him go. I wasn't thinking about him dying (didn't know about that), just that he would be a good king and should have his destiny.

You know how the saying goes...

"If you love something let it go, if it doesn't come back hunt it down and kill it."  Posted Image

For me...was the minor flirtation I had with King Cailan Theirin.  I sent my pc to his tent just to see if they would have a conversation.Posted Image

Ok, this has got to be the most ramantic (especially with British Accent) dumping dialogue ever. If some guy told me this in real life I would be depressed for at least weeks.

Alistair Dumping Dialogue....

1) I've thought of nothing else...(since Landsmeet)
2) I love you. More than I ever thought possible, but...I have to face what this means....
3) I could see it becoming very hard to tear myself away from you. Impossible even.
4) If this is what it must be....
5) You think it wasn't hard for me....It's not.
6) I love you. I'll always love you. But there are things that are more important than what I want. I wish it were otherwise.
7) We have a job to do. So please lets focus on that. Thinking about you is just too painful and too tempting.

Simutaneously Alistair is telling us how much he loves us, how much we tempt him, that he's dumping us to save the world.

Damn....that Blight.

I think Bann Teagan is the one NPC other than Alistair I'd really like the option to romance. He reminds me a bit of Alistair, but older more world weary and wise, which I suppose works since he's his uncle. I like in the final battle cut scenes, he's the one they focus on down in the city as the Archdemon dies. you see him look up at the tower with worry, and I like to think he's fearing the worst for my character. :D
