I realized that if you give him the Beef Bone as a gift in Ostagar when you first start out, you get +5 with him. Raised by houdns, much?
*grins* You get +5 for giving Alistair the beef bone? Too too funny! Raised by hounds indeed!

Actually, no, he will offer to sacrifice himself first and I'm pretty sure that with high coersion you can persuade him to rule on as the king and let you take the final blow.lapotatodolce wrote...
Question: If you're playing a female and are in a romance with Alistair and also have him in your party for the final battle, is it a sure thing that he'll sacrifice himself for you? Because if it comes down to it, I'd rather that *not* happen; I'd much rather make the sacrifice than have him do it. On my fiancé's playthrough (as a male) Alistair talked to him about it, but in the end Alistair let his PC do the honors. Will Alistair offer me the same choice? Or will I just have to leave him out of my party?
As others have said, no you can't persuade him to let you die. You can leave him at the gates and go on alone if you want to sacrifice yourself and of course no-one dies if you persuaded him to join Morrigan in her ritual. I suspect that in your fiance's playthrough either his PC did the Morrigan ritual or he talked Alistair into it because that's the only way.

I wonder how much approval you'd get if you could give him cheese...

No, my fiancé's PC flat out refused any variation of Morrigan's offer (I watched as he played through this, so I'm certain). His PC did have high coersion and was male and therefore not in a relationship with Alistair, so I'm guessing thats what changed in the scenario (his PC and Alistair were also at 100 friendship, though).

As a male character you are only friends and even if you are "best friends" he will do as you tell him. If you want him to live, to be king for ex, he will do it and let you sacrifice yourself.
Then he will give a fine speach for you at ypur memorial...
If you as female, and are/or have bean in love, and want to sacrifice yourself, you have to leave Al at the gates. He wont like it thou. But you are free to go and die if you want to and he will remember and morn you the rest of his life...

Wouldn't it be great if someone made a mod that created specialized gifts. I would so give Alistair the cheese and hair gel. What fun.
On a side note, my computer died a slow and horrible death a few days ago and I have lost my first character. I was more upset about losing her than anything else on the computer. I now have gotten a new system and have started playing a new character, but my female Dalish rogue was the one I wanted to carry through. Arrgh. I started up a female human noble, but I just can't get into it. Maybe I will do my Dalish elf again. I remember most of my choices I made with her, its just, my first experiences with the game and all the emotions of romancing Alistair were with her. I don't know if I am explaining it well enough. I just needed to let someone know.

Awwww....that's really too bad. There's nothing much more frustrating, irritating and sad than when one's technology fails! I feel for you. Good luck on recreating your first character and playthrough!

Touche. Hopefully, it wasn't because of that evil DAO Toolset? That's what did it to mine. But I completey know what you mean. Nothing like the emotional attachment you have to first pc and Al.
So, just recently I downloaded some mods for the first time. One of the ones was extra mage robes. It worked in one of my games but not in another. Is that normal?
Two of the other mods I downloaded were A sexier Alistair and New har for Alistair. The Sexier Alistair worked just fine; but, what can I say, it wasn't Alistair. Have decided to use the longer hair mod for Alistair to change things up though.

When I was talking to Anora on the playthrough with this character, we ended up takling about the romance, and she mentioned "Those Theirin boys are happiest when doting on their women"....How do I get this line again? I mean, I like comparing her relationship with Cailan, and my character's relationship with Al.

I am playing through on an elf mage. I plan to go through with the ritual and I am going to toughen him up so he won't dump me and I can be his mistress.
How much difference does it make if he marries Anora. I really don't want him to do it because she's such a dishonest little b***h, but if I makes for a better ending, I will.
Please let me know, thanks!![]()

I just got done watching a video of the conversation Alistair has with you when you first enter Redcliff and he tells you about his parentage. It was totally different from mine. In mine (through all plays) he just blurts out he is a bastard and then talks about Isolde and basic stuff. This one had a lot more flirting and him talking about his love of cheese and being thankful that he survived with you at Ostagar. How do you get those conversations. Is it based on earlier ones, or a higher approval rating. Does anyone know.

Edit to add: You'll get the "I'm lucky to have survived with you" line if you're just starting your relationship with him (if he says the "Something on your mind" or "At your service" lines when you speak to him). If you're deep into the relationship, he's a little less romantic but very confident in your abilities to save Ferelden ("And what does that make me?" "The REASON I think we're going to win this.")
Incidentally, on my most recent playthrough, my PC had done the Urn of Sacred Ashes before going to Redcliffe, after hearing all the stories about Arl Eamon being sick. When they arrived at the village and Alistair wanted to talk, she put him off since she was so focused on getting the ashes to the Arl. Imagine her surprise after the Arl was rescued when he and Teagan announce that they'll be putting forward Alistair as the heir to the throne! And Alistair sheepishly says, "I tried to tell you when we got to Redcliffe..."
Definitely a different and interesting option. My PC was certainly blindsided by that one.

I think he says that anyways, you just have to pick a different dialogue. If you say "You don't really think that, do you?" when he says he's just lucky enough to have survived when the rest didn't, he'll say "No, what I really think is that I was lucky enough to survive with you." If you pick "And what does that make me?" he answers with "The reason I think we're going to win this".Incidentally, on my most recent playthrough, my PC had done the Urn of Sacred Ashes before going to Redcliffe, after hearing all the stories about Arl Eamon being sick. I am SO going to have to try that with a PC some time. Maybe my upcoming HNF? It would be fun to put the romance off until that point because he's a commoner, and then have a change of heart when she finds out he's not!
