Zev's endings, as a friend or lover, is why I always keep him around with my PC, either to help with the Wardens or as my partner in dirty work.

Zev's endings, as friend or lover, are a huge part of the reason why I'm such a Zevran fangirl.  Talk about loyalty and devotion!

I do wish you could interact with Dog at post-coronation!  That's a horrible gap!  I want to send him to find something interesting and he comes back with Alistair's crown or something.

HA! That would be great.

Ahh, this image has been bouncing around in my head now.

HNF: Hmm....I haven't seen my husband in some time. Dog, why don't you find something...."interesting" for me?

Dog: *happy bark*

*Dog returns with Alistair's crown*

HNF: Aww, good boy. Have a Mabari crunch!

*Alistair runs into the room*

Alistair: "Heeey, bring that back! I was in the middle of court..."

*HNF holds Alistair's crown in front of her with a grin*

HNF: "Surely court can be delayed for just a moment longer..."

It must happen, because the Maker owes Alistair a chance to walk around with a toddler piggy-backed on his shoulders. Now I'm going to make myself verklempt.

lol *SQUUUEEEE*  That is SUCH a cute image. Now we need someone who can draw to do so!

Definately squee worthy.  What an endearing image.  Alistair as a father. *sigh*

Unfortunately it seems almost impossible to have a happy ending, unless -maybe you don't romance anybody at all.ever. And then do the sacrifice yourself, and though they lose a good friend, they can go on and live their lives. But I suppose then you would have to play your character as one with psychic intuition, and know that nothing good can come of a romance.

Edited for spelling.

It is so very hard to resist playing unattached, especially as their approval points go up.  I think I managed a way to force a romance with Zevran without falling back on Alistair. I have nevery fully romanced Zev, only flirted and broke up.

I thought I would try to hold off any complimentary dialogue with Alistair. That didn't work as he starts warming up to you as approval points go up.  So went to Redcliffe right away and decided to kill Connor instead  of rescuing him. This time I killed him myself, it was pretty terrible to say the least.

So back at camp and a major screaming from Alistair.  This time, instead of saying how bad I felt, I picked every dialogue option to the contrary. Came up with -46, which left me with a -30 approval with Alistair. After that I tried gifts and used up all my dialogue up I manged to get a +6.  However, I had no dialogue left and there was  no way to get Alistair to respond with some type of romantic dialogue.  No way to romance him, no choice to but to romance Zev.

Didn't like that and replayed that mission. What can I say? I'm an Alistair girl through and through.Image IPB

Ahh, I finally got the "The reason I said I was lucky" line from Alistair at Redcliffe, when he says he's just some nobody too luck to die with the rest of the Wardens.  Suuuuuch a cute line.  Made my Dalish girl's heart skip a beat, I think.

When Alistair has his party banter with Wynne and leliana, trying to get their imput into getting your character to like them, I love when he opens up the dialogue with something like"Um, you're a woman, right?"

His awkwardness with females gets the "awwww" factor in me every time.

It is possible to keep Alistair at arms length, and still have his approval go up.  It is extremely hard though in the beginning but gets easier later in the game.  You have to avoid any mention of his being handsome, and definately stay away from the " So if you were raise in the Chantry....."   Never mention that you like him, or you did something for him, or that you think he is special.  If a response mentions you being friends, it is safe to say.  The response that I want to give sometimes, though it seemed innocent enough would flip him over to interested, and would have to reload. After having to go back some distance sometimes I learned to always check the approval meter after each conversation to make sure we were still friends.

I managed to save Connor without sacrificing anyone, and didn't really have any trouble getting through that, but the conversation that I had the hardest getting through was giving him his mother's amulet.  I finally had to say, "Lets not make more of this than it is."  Broke my heart, I suppose I could have just not given it to him, but he is just so visibly upset when telling you how he broke it, I have to give it to him.

Poor Zev, he was a distraction for my mage.  After every tough conversation with Alistair, where she had to meaner than she wanted, she would always run over an invite Zevran into her tent. (I don't think he minded much;))

Heh, I have no problems keeping Alistair as a friend, WITH the chantry talk. You can't tell him he's handsome, obviously (like you can't ask Zevran about his staring without starting it). I find the romance starting lines for Alistair very easy to spot -- if you are flirtatious at all, romance is on. If he calls you beautiful, don't acknowledge it. He's always at 100 with gifts to spare by the time the landsmeet is called -- I have to ignore him or be a jerk to keep his approval down. This game, I may test to see if he'll get married at 100 hostile for the PC; I like Alistair!

One funny thing with Alistair, you can turn on the romance while setting up the marriage with Anora -- there's actually a romance line in that conversation after you suggest them getting married.

With all of the romanceable ones.  I've pretty much given up on not dumping Leliana at least once a game.  But the Anora marriage set up one had me laughing for a long time.   Lost 32 approval dumping him that same conversation . . .

It's pretty funny, the farther in the game the more you lose with him, or it could be the longer you are in a relationship.  I think I lost like 70+ points with him once in the Anora conversation.  Though once I did mange to break it off without any lose of points.  I think it was during a "What now?" conversation and being non-human he gave me an out early on.

The most I ever lost was -100, but it was deliberate.  I wanted to see if he'd marry my HNF at a low approval, so I turned on the romance at the Landsmeet door, and when he handed me the rose, I selected, "So you give me a flower? Brilliant plan."  Heh, -100, 0 neutral, the wedding was still on, but he did have some slightly different dialog than a wedding at 100 friendly (and 100 love obviously).

Edit: It takes doing the Alistair a few times before being able to play around with it like that, though . . .

Yea, it took me a few times before I could deliberately do something I knew I would get disapproval for or even get yelled at. Even though I knew he was going to be upset, I actually cringed when he yelled at me for sacrificing Isolde to save Connor.

Is this with any female, or just  the human noble?

I've never tried to set up Alistair and Anora while playing a human noble -- my Couslands always feel that they belong on the throne before a Mac Tir.  But if you can turn on the romance with Alistair, there's a romance line in there.  It's when he asks something like, "WHY would I consider such a thing," you can answer something like, "Because I find power very attractive."  He gets all happy, then suddenly realizes that you're setting him up to marry someone else.

Edit: So I know it works with at least a city elf -- I would imagine it would work with any character that is not currently romancing Alistair but can turn on the romance.

Go for the cause, Ejoslin. I'm right behind you, lol.

As for Alistair yelling at the PC for doing what he suggests, that is completely out of character. It is either poorly implemented, or a bug.

The most I ever lost was a -85 for calling him goofy......I was like well crap I don't have enough gifts to fix this!  luckily I had an auto safe not far behind.  I learned to save before talking to him after that.

Ok, I am working on a Dalish Rogue and am romancing Alistair. I am thnking of having him marry Anora and staying on as his mistress. When should I start bringing up the idea of his marrying her? Do I mention it in my conversation with Anora or wait until the Landsmeet?

Thanks for the help

Its easiest if you set it up before Landsmeet. If you don't want to lose approval with Alistair, just tell him its a political marriage, and you can tell Anora that you're not going anywhere (though that part doesn't affect Alistair's approval).

When exactly can you first suggest it?

The first time you get a chance to talk to Anora at Arl Eamon's estate (post saving the queen). You talk to her and then you talk to Alistair.

You also get an option to bring it up to Arl Eamon when you first return to him after saving Anora (after Anora has left the room). This isn't really part of setting up the marriage, but is interesting from a dialogue standpoint. If you're in a romance with Alistair, Eamon has a rather nice comment to make.

And Alistair has a funny, Alistair-typical response to the suggestion as well!
