I've been playing Bioware games since I was young. I believe it was in grade 5 that I played Baldurs Gate and I loved it. Later I would play Icewind Dale 1 & 2, then much later Neverwinter Nights 2 (I skipped over the first one). The top down view seemed to work very well in those games, and I tried using it in Dragon Age, but the game appeared to be designed for 3rd person gameplay.
For instance, as you know there is no fog, and enemies can see and attack you from outside the view of the top down camera, which automatically handicaps your gameplay if enemies are always taking you by surprise.
I assume that Dragon Age inherited its features from the KOTOR RPGs.
Which did you like better?
Four character parties are manageable with the 3rd person camera, but I still miss the tactical control over a six character party from Bioware's earlier works.
