Loosing the "boob window" would be nice.

I was kind of hoping there would be at least one female LI who wasn't going for the "sexy armor" look, but alas...

There is. She's called Tali.

That's my take. I could care less how they look but how they are as a character and how effective they are in conjunction with my Shepard and other chosen squaddies.

It is not like BW couldn't just say weapons advances made armor like tinfoil to todays magnum. Now wearing heavy armor is a hindrance and KBs are up and already were established as doing the heavy lifting anyway. Their univers, their lore their characters, we own nothing and have no right to stake a claim otherwise. People claim they know better than the people who actually did the hard work making everything. We can choose to play it or not and that is about our only choice. Trying to prove what someone likes vs. creator decisions is purely hubris. They write it and we don't and that's a fact. Grousing about it is a waste of time so is trying to sway people to what you believe is correct that contradicts what the IP owner wants. Even if they do bend to what changes you want and then what change you effected makes others unhappy. So who gave you that right?

I suppose Tali could be considered less so, comparatively. The fact that lore won't let her show any skin helps.

Still should loose the Ash boob window though.

I think she looks cleaned up. Not to mention she is a f**king spectre. She shouldn't be dressed up in armor every other soldier is wearing. I'm seriously loving her new gear. She's gonna be tough! Glad I have 2 shepards for both kaidan and ash - I almost didn't have one.

I was sneaky about it too, I saved right before I chose between Kaidan and Ash - saved one of them, beat the game, then continued from the save spot and saved the other and it worked! sneaky sneaky! I was incredibly lazy - not to mention I did every single mission available.. even collecting the minerals. I was NOT in the mood to do the whole thing again.

I wouldn't vote on her appearance until I actually played the final product.

At any rate, I would rather her have an improved version of Alliance armor (she is supposed to get something like Kaidan has been seen in) and something not too risque for around the ship. If she wants to let her hair down, so be it.

Funny, I can remember another Spectre who wore the same armor that other soldiers could wear. What makes Ash so special?

I'd love the middle one if it wasn't for the stupid boob window.

Oh Captain, my Captain ...

You showed Ashleys casual outfit. None of them is intented as combat armor. That's just what Ash wears when not in combat. I hope her combat armor will be either a Phoenix Heavy Armor or - and that's what I hope for, this Armor:

Woah...we don't want a large-hipped cross eyed woman! Damn you Bioware...don't give us large hipped women!!

I detect Fraudian logic, which is even worse then Freudian logic. :o

If Ashley who is soldier class doesn't wear heavy armour then no one should wear heavy armour.

To have kaiden (a biotic), vega and shep all in heavy armour but NONE of the female characters is just sexist.

How much protection characters wear should be based on their class, not their gender.

Major facepalm.

ME1 was all about repetitive. There was no distinction with anything. The buildings on the different planets - they were the exact same. Abilities? The exact same. Nothing was distinguishable.

With ME2 at least things were different. At least there was something different to do on the missions. At least people looked different. Armor was far more aesthetically pleasing. Shepard actually looked different in ME2. I don't see why Ash should stay in the same (ugly) phoenix armor.

With newer games come new ideas. It's hard to explain..and I doubt I'm going to reply if you reply to me. I'm rather tired and don't feel like explaining my point of view after this.

THIS.  The quote within the quote as well.  Artistic vision should never be dictated by focus groups.  Certainly not by a poll that the overwhelming majority of fans of the series will never see, given that the overwhelming majority of people who play these games do not live in the forums 24/7, seeking every possible opportunity to whine about every random detail of the game that comes to their attention.

*shakes head*. There's actually a bit of discussion about this. The second pic is from the 'art of mass effect' book, in the CE unboxing video on the ME website. Essentially it shows her casual outfit (1), then two different colours for her armour (2, 3).

On the other hand, some have said that the 'casual' outfit is what she'll be wearing in combat.

Hattie - quite true. The funny thing is that Kaiden looks great in his armour, I don't get why Ash couldn't as well.

lightsnow13 - you've missed the point. If Shepard wears the same armour as other N7's, why would Ash need to have completely new and specialised armour?

I actually have to question the artistic vision of BioWare lately then. They seem to have gone from cool, yet practical style to this almost immature oversexualisation and over bombastic approach, which we saw in ME2 already. Kind of a "screw practicality, let's just appeal to horny teenagers who love boobs and explosions!" mentality seems to have invaded Mass Effect lately.

I recall it being mentioned  a long time ago that
Ashley's skill set as a soldier focused on lethality
James' skill set as a soldier focused on survivability.

Common sense here would presume then that
Ashley uses sniper rifles and assault rifles, and is meant to engage at long range
James uses shotguns and assault rifles, and is meant to engage in close range

Snipers need mobility to keep at long range and quickly move when needed.  They require less armor because they fire from the longest range, which means they are the last to be engaged by the enemy.  Of course if the enemy has snipers as well, then they are free to engage each other....which is all the more reason for her defense to rely primarily on mobility and kinetic barriers, not heavy armor plating.  In case no one has noticed-- as a general rule of thumb armor does NOT impede sniper rifles. Kinetic barriers and movement do.

Shotgun wielders need more protection to survive in close quarters and to hold position, close range weapons consist of shotguns, assault rifles, and light damage weaponry.  The former two have weaker penetration of armor, and the latter two have weaker overall damage.

Thane has lighter armor than Zaeed; his weapons encourage long-range engagement
Zaeed has lighter armor than Grunt; his weapons encourage medium-range engagement
Grunt has the heaviest armor, and his weapons encourage close range engagement

Jacob broke the mold because he uses barriers and therefore only needs ballistic fabric armor with either medigel mesh or heavy skin weave...the excess bulk of power cells and kinetic barrier emitters do not apply.  Jack, Samara, and Morinth have less armor than Jacob because they are the strongest biotics you have ever recruited.

Kaidan is a sentinel, and in the ME2/ME3 system Sentinels use shields and tech armor, NOT biotic barriers. He also has a L2 biotic implant, whereas the biotic characters and classes who had barriers replace shieldsin ME2 (Adepts, Vanguards, Jack, etc) all use a L5x or L5n biotic implant.  There is your the justification for him having to rely on armor and shields despite the latest (ME2 and forward) updates in biotic technology

Her name is Ash Williams.

You know she's gonna be a shotgun wielder ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

1. It goes against pre-established lore.
Kaidan: Those asari commanders are impressive. Lightly armored though, but their speed makes up for it.
Ashley: Unless that speed let's them outrun bullets, I'm going to stick with nice solid armor... And a big gun.
Kaidan: Point taken.
2. They totally ripped off the design from Metroid: Zero Mission
