Well, well. I've arrived at the Dragon Age II party rather late, as this game is only one in a loooong backlog of games I'm trying to get through, and to cut straight to the chase there seems to be a problem with Anders' Panacea Mode, at least in the PS3 version.
As soon as I activate Panacea it drains more than half the poor bugger's mana bar, harsh, but not crippling. What's worse, however, is that Anders refuses to drink any Lyrium Potions while Panacea i active, effectively making both the mode and the character largely useless. The potions aren't shaded out, the icon looks normal on the radial menu, Anders simply refuses to accept that particular command.
There is no mention of this restriction in the mode description, so it's likely a bug, and I'm wondering is anyone else here has seen this happening?
I've now lost a particular boss-fight several times because of this and it's starting to, mildly speaking annoy me.
Panacea bug?

1) Do not activate Panacea unless you need Anders to cast Aid Allies or Regroup.
2) Lyrium potions cannot restore mana lost to sustained abilities while said abilities are currently activated.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I know Panacea is only good for those two spells, and in this particular fight, with the particular group, they become very important.
Ah, I know the potions cannot counter-affect the cost of activating the abilities, that's just common sense, the problem is that as soon as Panacea is activated is saps Anders from about 2/3 mana to so little that the relevant spells can't be cast, and he refuses to drink any potions to even make up the difference.

Self: mana or stamina<10% - use lyrium potion?
That line works for me, and with panacea activated.
What other sustainables might Anders be using? I usually have him with Rock Armor, Heroic Aura and Panacea activated and he still has enough mana for the relevant spells.
Have you been putting many points into willpower? How is his mana regeneration rate?
Btw, Panacea should only be taking up 40% of Anders' mana. If it's doing more than half, then something is wrong.
