I keep seeing it repeated on the BSN as if it were fact , that Ashley is at least partially Spanish or Hispanic. I'm curiious however, where they got that idea from. As far as I'm aware there isn't any mention at all as to what Ashley's ethnic background is, and seems to be entirely based on the fact that she's got brown hair and a somewhat tan complection.

The problem with that assumption is that Spanish and Hispanic people aren't the only ones with tan skin. Many of the people liiving in Southern Europe, such as Greeks, Southern Italians, Mediterranean French, and some Baltic peoples also often have dark hair and eyes, and tan or olive skin tones. So do many Israelis and other Middle-Easterners, like Armenians, Turks, Arabs & Persians.

If Ashley has a mixed ethnic background she could just as easily have ancestors from one or more of the above listed groups. She could also just be entirely or mostly Welsh. The surname Williams can be either English or Welsh in origin, and the Welsh people are known for often having a darker appearance than the English. The ancient Romans described the Celtic ancestors of the Welsh as being dark-haired and swarthy. Think Welshmen can't sometimes pass for Spanish or Hispanic people? Watch the old Zorro movie with Catherine Zeta Jones.

She looks more pale in ME3 than she was before. To me atleast. Although that could just be bad lighting. I really doubt she's Welsh though, williams is common in many places.

Thanks!

I stand corrected in that case. I knew it was never stated in game, so I was curious where the idea that she had partial Hispanic origins came from. That would explain the nice backside. Image IPB

Well...she was born in Brazil after all. Why shouldn't she be a Latina?

Indeed - her writer confirmed that Ashley has partly hispanic roots. Must say, it's quite obvious: her looks always gave away that hint, at least if you take a look or two. I think her slightly thicker (but incredible sexy ^^) eyebrows did it for me.
So I knew it before I read the "confirmation" of Ashley's writer.

By the way, since we know how her grandfather looks, I'd say she's either a quarter or half hispanic. Her grandfather General Williams looks like a caucasian, so either his wife was hispanic (therefore 1/4) or Ashley's mother (1/2).

Just for fun: I once thought of her family tree - and also the one of Shepard. Her's has a "Lee" branch in - and leads to the famous General Lee in American Civil War. Shepard has a branch that reaches back to Chamberlain ... but that's just for my headcanon

I never really thought she was Latina, but now that I think about it, I can see it.

That's a common reaction around these parts, too.

Well...

She was trained in Brazil, so we assumed that she was born there (yeah, big assumption)

So she speaks portuguese, wich is a major turn-on... and in another instances it's a justification for rape.

Glad to help.

They made her Latina so Michelle Rodriguez can play her in the ME movie. Either way I approve, not to mention it merely makes sense to have different ethnic groups in the future, in space.
