I am surprised people complain about Tali and Garrus but nobody complains about Liara. She plays an important role in ME1/2/3, can be romanced in all 3, has a comic series and a DLC devoted to her. Funny how I noticed this in yet I never feel the need to actually complain about it.

That was an equally moronic move on Bioware's part, seeing how Liara's story arc ended perfectly in LotSB and put her in a position which would allow her to be a major supporting character in ME3. Something that's worth more than being just another squaddie, if you were to ask me.

I romanced Liara in ME1, but I am looking forward to the reason why Liara is in Shepard's squad, and not handling things as the Shadow Broker unless she can do so on the Normandy.  If it's because of TIM, I hope they explain why without it being the fact that Shepard was dumb enough to let TIM know where the base is at in ME2.

Guys, I have never heard this explanation and highly doubt its validity. I will research.

EDIT: spoke to a writer and this info is incorrect.

ROFL, okay. Now this is pretty sad.

Bringing back Tali as a perma-squadmate makes sense on several levels: (1) bring back someone Shepard can trust; (2) as leverage in any negotiations with Quarians; (3) tech-combat ace in the squad.

But if they really did this simply in response to the forum nerdrage, despite having had an outside role cut-out for her beforehand, that's quite pathetic.

Up to now I've been quite pleased by the general direction, still am overall, but this disappoints me. I was glad when I saw the script since I thought they were carrying out the story their way and not worrying about appeasing every individual fanbase at its expense. But apparently that wasn't true.

Minus renegade points for Bioware.

1. That fits anyone Shepard Made loyal in ME2, the VS and Wrex (if he's alive)

2. There are other people with connections to other civilizations that are just as important, that doesn't mean they needed to stick around for the entirety/majority of the campaign.

3. Legion and Mordon were just as good techs, not to mention you could specialize as one so you don't need a specialist in a field if you want to specialize in it. Besides, she's useless unless she's facing Geth, which can be taken care of by any Infiltrator with AI hacking and a Mattatock.

Well, its the third installment in a franchise that is already planning on expanding come the next gen of consoles, some of the decision making concerning profitability of this title has to go to appeasing existing fans. That's simply logical, and considering its a character that can be completely overlooked in the first two games and still come to the third, what would that appear to be? Also, as important as the quarians may be, Mordin and Wrex's respective sides of the Krogan/Salarian conflict has more dire consequences than her involvement and they're only mission based squad mates. So, Tali could still play her "important" role, and only join for her mission, like everyone else who's returning for ME3.

So, what other reason could Bioware have for making her permanent other than fan service?

That would be awesome, if not for the fact that they will NOT have replacements in ME3. I.e. you will have less squadmates to choose from if they died earlier. And that to me is the pinnacle of pandering.

Come on Bioware. You've already one leg inside the fail pool. May as well put the shorter one in and reveal that TALI AND GARRUS WILL BE RESURRECTED FOR ME3 EVEN IF THEY DIED IN ME2. I mean, you already tested this wonderfully stupid idea in DA2.

Here's something you might want to try out: Tolerance. Tolerate their existance (getting mad over a video game character? Sounds awfully familiar) and simply ignore them when they show up and skip through their dialogues if you want their precious content but not the characters themselves.

That's what I do with many characters. I think they're boring and outright stupid, but I see the potential profit, and that's why I'm keeping them.

Or if you want them dead, you simply have to accept the consequences.

Because life is tough and it sucks sometimes.

Tali and Garrus are replaced in their plot relevant roles as well as the other killable ME2 characters.  As squadmates no, you have to deal with it.  If you did bad on the Collector mission, you failed it as both a paragon and a renegade.

Surprisingly, I'm fine with DA2 ressurecting characters if they find important roles for them to be in the future.  This is due to DA not being predicted as a trilogy, so they obviously didn't plan that far.  This does go on to say they should be more prepared for these types of situations in the future though.  Of course, this also means if they want to use a character in the future, they'll have to listen to people complaining about players going on how they can't kill certain character.  That's basically where they have to decide not to pander though and go on their best judgement for what they feel would make for the best story in the future.

Can you please make a thread explaining this to people? :) It will hopefully calm a lot of people down.

She isn't even a permanent squaddie. At least, from what I can gather from the leak.

Do tell. Because from what everyone else has gathered from the leak, she is.

(I know I"m going back a little bit but whatever)

Joker has a single line that says that he's glad Tali's back....at least for a little while. To me, that indicates that she'll eventually leave. She doesn't have the permanence of Vega - he seems to be the only one - even against the VS - who sticks around.

Meh...haters gonna hate. If you hate Tali so much, then kill her off in the SM, rather than p*ssing & moaning about her on the forums. Then again, what do I know? I'm a Garrusmancer, so I have nothing to complain about :P

I like how some people relate 'I dislike that my character's getting less screentime due to Bioware paying more attention to the Tali fanbase' to 'I want Tali dead and gone.'

But I've seen this! Time and time and time again! Even today I've seen it!

People have actively said 'because Bioware are listening to fans of Tali, my character is getting less attention therefore I'm going to kill her off, no more Tali!'. Perhaps not so gleefully, but you get my point.

I haven't done a thorough reading, but I've been told that Tali has dialogue pertaining to most missions. As well, she has lines where she talks about how she's no longer needed with the quarians and can join Shepard to fight the Reapers. As well as lots of other dialogue on the Normandy itself.

Phew. Glad to hear that.

I don't usually trust biased sources, but I had some doubt about this one anyway. Like I said, there's more than enough reason to bring her back, fanbase aside.

Reminder, please don't post information from the leak on these open threads, and certainly without warning. Talk about those in a PM or something.

Since this thread is just plain inaccurate, I'm going to lock it. If people are discussing this on other threads, PM me so I can set everyone straight. Sorry this is short, I'm at the mall on my mobile :P

Of course there is.  But her fanbase IS a big reason why she's back.  That's been obvious for a while.  I don't blame Bioware for making the choice because people weren't going to be pleased since they couldn't bring everyone back, but it was a bad move to publicize this.  They could have just as well made Jack and Grunt permanent members while making well-written roles that make sense for Garrus and Tali, and i would still understand as long as everyone's part is well done.
