It wasn't meant to be believable. The fact that the majority of my posts have perfect spelling are clear evidence that the poor spelling was intentional in this particular instance.

Things should happen that are beyond Shepard's ability to control. Shepard is not a super-hero or a demi-god. Shepard is human. Sometimes the badguys should get the best of him and he should be lucky to escape with his own life, much less that of his companions. Sometimes, the bad guys should inflict mortal wounds on his soul by strike down those he cares about. Namely the people under his command.

I think Shepard should be given a greivous wound at some time though all pales to ME2 intro. Why can't he lose an arm in battle? They'll just order up a new and improved cyborg arm but that would cause some dramatic moments. EVAC Shepard wakes out of pain induced coma. Has to deal with mortality that sort of stuff.

No, it's poor to the point that it looks like it was done on purpose. GMagnum's spelling looks utterly sh*tty, but it doesn't look like he's spelling that poorly on purpose. Kind of like...hmm, what's a good analogy...you're playing PIG with two friends (that's a basketball game, if you didn't know), and one makes it and the next guy shoots and misses. Now, if he misses intentionally, you can usually tell. But if he was good he could intentionally miss the shot, and you would think he was completely serious.

to hell with realism. this game hasn't been realistic before it was released and any and all illusion of realism disappeared with project Lazarus and latex in space. so "realism" is not good enough reason to force squadmate deaths when in the next breath people go ahead and defend skimpy female outfits in battle, among other things.

screw your forced drama.
you want people to die? I'm sure bioware will indulge you. and if it means you have to play "badly"

well to quote some of your words?

I'd still pay for any plot in which Shepard ends up with a geth arm.

It's a good thing then that we weren't talking about realism so much as we were "good storytelling".

It could be more realistic. He could step on a cerberus or reaper deployed mine and lose his lower extremities.

So is that a geth arm with actual geth running it? Shepard we have not reached consensus you cannot fire your gun.

Ah, yes. Sometimes I forget. Don't worry, I won't reveal who dies - that is, if anyone does...:bandit:

good stories can happen without forcing deaths. in fact - fridge deaths can ruin a story.

and as for realism, like I said - things haven't been particularly realistic since before release of ME1. otherwise - instead of half the squad cooling their heels on the Normandy, they would have been assisting on Virmire and would have prevented Virmire death. and lets not even get into science of Mass Effect.

Gameplay segregation tells us we get Shepard and two squad and that's it. They design the story around that. You can assume they could not debark after all one MAKO only or that they were possibly involved fighting a diversionary feint. First is fact second could counter. Anyone can make up possible scenarios. I was fine with BW creating the Virmire situation. It is their universe to do as they will.

So is the opposite true forced death make every story utterly trash? Nope. So your point is moot. Great stories have happened where the IP owner has incorporated death especially novels and written media and movies. I get people don't like squad dying but really all you have is your opinion you don't like it. It may ruin the story for you but for most probably not. Even so, it is still BW's call even if they killed off the most popular character to much public disdain.

I never said otherwise. However those stories don't typically involve wars on this scale. They aren't typically about fight for the survival of entire galaxies.

At the end of the day I don't think this has anything to do with the story being good or not as far as you are concerned. I think all you care about is your favorite characters and you feel that you won't be able to enjoy them if they are killed off. I understand that. You want them at your side right through to the end. However, sometimes what we lose is what we gain.

and what exactly makes your desires more valid then mine?  and what sort of realizm can we POSSIBLE speak of, war stories or otherwise, where you have gameplay/story segretation to a point where you can get a mission of outmost importance, leave it for absolute last, probably letting a month pass at least and when you finaly get to it, not only the target of your rescue is still alive, its STILL 4 days till reaper arrival? or assasination conveniently waits untill you have a chance to get to Citadel to stop it?  or transporting a family that has bad guy on its heels, and its supposed to be urgent and yet, you have all the time in a world to get it done?

since when specific people must die to make a good war story, and millions of people dying, while Shepard has to run off and tries to get help to save whoever is left don't matter?

There are different types of realism. Just because Mass Effect has women traipsing around in high heels doesn't mean that Shepard can have a pony that he rides around on on his ship, though that would be awesome. Just because Shepard survived death doesn't mean people shouldn't die. A story works within its established parameters.

It's like genres of literature. An action novel will likely have a single romance scene. But that story having a romance scene is no excuse for it turning to a steamy scene straight out of a romance novel: it's an action novel, and it's made up of certain components that overlap other genres.

Mass Effect is made up of components that, while not strictly realistic, are realistic within the boundaries they've set for it.

Nothing, beyond anyone's desire being more important to that person than anyone else. You're entitled to argue for what you want, no different than anyone else.

This really doesn't help the argument you're making, however. This is a gameplay limitation which games should be trying to overcome, not add more to the pile. It's really not an argument to say squad-mates don't have to die because I can put off the Race to the Citadel while I do a buttload of side quests. One deals with gameplay lore segregation, the other deals with narrative technique.

The fact that they - if I am to include Ambi and Saph - have a better understanding of what makes a good story, simple as that.
