And here's the Dragon Age Timeline

From the wiki...I'm not sure everything is accurate there.

I wish BW would put out an official timeline.

You honestly don't even need the Wiki.  Let's look at it.

Lothering is destroyed when you start the first treaty quest.  So that's when Hawke's story starts.  From that point you still have to finish two more treaty missions one of which was probably the deep roads, at least for me it was.  You still have the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest, the events of Redcliffe and the Battle of Denerim before the archdemon is even slain.

Then six months have to pass before Awkenings even starts.  Then you have to finish the events of Awakenings.

Then Andres still has to take another trip to the deep roads and come back.  Have the wardens tell him that his cat is making him soft and he has to get rid of it.  He then has to make a trip to Amaranthine and find a home for the cat.

Then he still has to make the trip across the sea to Kirkwall and start a clinic.  He also has to run across Justice at some point.

The six months between the games is what makes it impossible.

Yeah well apparently if people stop harping on about it Bioware will somehow forget the criticisms people have about it.

I suspect people will stop harping on about it as soon as Bioware says something encouraging about their future direction.

They have, they've even demonstrated it in the DA2 DLC.

Not all that disliked dragon age 2 puchased the dlc

And not all who purchased them liked them. Truth is the only way for Bioware to get back in the graces of those who feel let down is DA3. No words or DLCs can do this. And that's when people will stop complain about DA2. Then they will either complain about DA3 ... or come to peace with DA2. Even though I personally will probably never come to peace with DA2. Lost potential stays lost potential. I don't think I can ever think of DA2 as something other than a crash landing of the DA franchise.

I agree wholeheartedly.  DA2 can never be undone.  It is what it is.

DA2 is a miserably mediocre game unbecoming of BioWare's great name.  The apologists do BioWare no credit.  They (BioWare) should hold themselves to a higher standard, and usually have in the past.  That has nothing to do with how dumbed down or actioned-up the game was, or how little it resembled a true RPG.  It's just a geniunely bad game.  It's not a bad game because I disagreed with many of the design decisions.  It's just... a bad ...game.  It was a bad game in March, it's a bad game 8 months later.

The question is are we a few months away from DA3 or a few years?  By this point in Dragon Age: Origins lifecycle, Dragon Age 2 was 7 months away from being released.  Dragon Age: Origins isn't even 2 years old yet.  Let's all take a moment to laugh about that.

Yes it is. It was two years old on the third of this month.

I think DA3 will come end of next year or early 2013. So it's a year or a year and a half. From now.

We don't even know how long a month and year is in Thedas, so while yes the timeline does feel squished, it is not imposable.

or how long it took for Flemeth to safely transport Hawke to Gwaren, or how long it took them in Gwaren to book ship on a boat heading to Kirkwall.

Flemeth might've just traveled with them in her human form helping kill Darkspawn.

And honestly, having Flemeth as a companion would be ****ing awesome.

Twelve 30 day months.  So it's shorter than our year by a few days.

It doesn't matter.  Varric says in the interlude that word came across the ocean that the Blight was over.  So the Blight ended during your year of servitude no matter when you started it.  Then you have add six months onto whenever that was before you can even start Awakenings or anything that happened after it.

Wrong again Aaleel, we don't know when word of the Blights end happens, for al lwe know it could have happen during Hawkes servitude. Hawkes year of servitude stars when she finishes her first quest and ends a week before she meets Varric.

The fact is you don't know everything about the timeline because Bioware has not shown a full timeline with dates, so until I see a detailed timeline it's not imposable when I can easily fit in everything in the frame I'm given.

Also I want your source on that months in a year of Thedas.

Um this is what I said.   Actually it's what Varric said.  Go play the beginning of the game again.  Varric says in the interlude before the first act starts that word came across the ocean that the Blight had ended.  That means it happened during your year of servitude like I said.

Also the game take place over 10 years, you play through 7.  One year of servitude and then two three year time skips.  The Blight ended during your year of servitude as stated, and by the time you meet Varric Andres is already in the city with a clinic set up.

The calendar in Thedas
consists of twelve thirty-day months. Four annums split the year,
signifying the transition between seasons. A fifth annum celebrates the
start of a new year. Although each month has a name in the language of
Ancient Tevinter, the people of
Ferelden commonly use the "low" names. The Tevinter names are listed first, followed by the more common name for the month.

Months and Annumsdata:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIABAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAEALAAAAAABAAEAQAICTAEAOw%3D%3DEdit

That doesn't tell us how much time passed between the end of Hawke's servitude and the beginning of Act 1.

Hawke's story takes place over ten years.  One year of servitude, three year time skip, Qunari, three year time skip, ending, three year time skip.  That ten years, they made the timeline too tight.  You can't just add in a year after tje servitude or six months or whatever.  They just made the timeline to tight to allow everything they claim happened before Andres got to Kirkwall.

It does matter. That interlude encompasses an entire year of servitude. Exactly when the Blight ended within that year is not specified.

Imagine that when Lothering was destroyed, 2-3 months had passed from DAO's start. That leaves 9 months in DAO's storyline. Assuming Awakening takes place 4 months after Origins' ending -- as F. Melo only said several, not six. 6 is what the wiki believes to be the case -- and it takes them 3 months at most to defeat the Mother.

That means that there are 16 months left in the story entirely.

Now imagine that it takes Hawke, Flemeth, and everyone 3 months to get to Gwaren from the Wilds if they're traveling by foot. Flemeth says that they're in the Wilds when she encounters them.

That knocks it down to 13 months entirely, and 6 in Origins' story.

2 weeks pass by.

12.5 months entirely, and 5.5 in Origins' story.

Hawke then spends 3 days waiting for Gamlen.

He then works for Athenril or Meeran. Spends a year with them. Subtract 5.5 from 12.5. You get 7 months left. Precisely how long it takes for Awakening to happen.

Hawke spends about 6.5 more months with Athenril/Meeran. Then when he leaves their employ, dialogue implies that he's been trying to get on the expedition for a while now. How long is subject to speculation -- as is my timeline Image IPB -- but for appearance's sake it boils down to being at least half a month.

At the very least, it comes out to being Act 1 takes place immediately after Awakening's end -- which is evident by the quest The Noble Conspirators where the Sergeant talks about the Warden killing the Mother -- but I'd say Act 1 takes place 1.5 months after the service ended.

Nevertheless, I think Act 1 should've had an extra year so there'd be no confusion at all.

[*]I wish I could play through my year of servitude.  Seeing how I made my name would have been far more interesting than doing odd quests to raise money.  But you're just told of your servitude year passing by Varric, and during that time he says word came of the Blight's ending.  By the time you have control of your character again, Andres is in Kirkwall and has a clinic set up.
[*]That means six months passed, Awakenings passed, his last trip to the deep roads, his trip to Amaranthine and his boat ride to Kirkwall.  Not possible.

Impossible.  Andres takes at least one more trip to the Deep Roads after Awakenings, where he does whatever to save his cat, which causes the Grey Wardens to tell him to get rid of it because it was making him soft.  He still has to return from the deep roads, travel to Amaranthine to find a home for the cat.  Then he still has to take the boat ride to Kirkwall and start a clinic.

Like I said not enough time, even under your last explanation it's not possible under your view of the timeline.

Who's to say that the Wardens that told him it made him soft weren't the ones you recruited? Sigrun, Velanna, etc.

Hell, for all we know the Warden recruited more than just those guys into the Warden Order, but Bioware just wanted us to have those guys as companions.

Remember that you do go to the Deep Roads at least twice, both times facing Darkspawn.

A venture into the Deep Roads does not neccessarily entail a trek involving multiple months. He could have shown up, dived head first into a cave with a known Broodmother in it to save his cat on the first day, and was told he needed to get rid of the flea bag.

Not likely, mind you, but it is POSSIBLE. To say it is IMPOSSIBLE fails to adhere to any possibility (or any excuse Bioware could create) as to how short or how long an event took to happen.

We don't know how strict they are with this though.

"Three years" could equal 2 years and 9 months.

Andres explains it all.  It happened after Awakenings finished.  Something happened when he went back to the deep roads that made the Wardens say the cat was making him soft.  Then he went Amaranthine to find the cat a home.
