 Hi all,

I've just started playing around with editing head models and I ran across a minor problem. It seems that the head model I edited seems to have a black line running through the center of her face. The original head model I used a base to edit from doesn't have this problem though. I'm not sure how it went wrong.

I used Gmax and NWmax to edit and export/import. I edited the vertex of the part that was the hair as I wanted to try to make the hair of that model longer. Is there a way to fix this?

By the way, I am a total noob at this.  :)

Thanks,
H.

Several models suffer from this issue, and I'm guessing it is a matter of re-pasting the texture in the model editor. However, I'm a novice myself when it comes to applying textures precisely. Why don't you try and simply "paste" the texture? Open a explorer window where your texture file is, and drag/drop it over the model in your model editor. Not sure it will solve the matter, but it may! Sorry I couldn't be of more use. Surely one of the master creators will post shortly. Also, do a search in the forums, as I'm sure this issue was already discussed and solved in previous threads.

Do an uvw unwrap, zoom in on the tverts that are at the edges of the texture and see if they are a little outside of it or exactly at the edge. If a tvert is for example at 0,5 1,001 move it to 0,5 1,0. If that doesn't help move it to 0,5 0,999 then 0,5 0,998 and so on until the black line disappears.
When you make gmax apply a texture to a plane, the tvert in the lower left corner of the texture is at 0,001 0,001 instead of 0,0 0,0. This usually helps preventing those black seams which might appear if the tvert was at 0,0 0,0.

Thanks for all your comments! I'll give it a try as soon as I'm back home. But I don't know how to uvw unwrap. Can you tell me how to do that please? I'm really a total noob :)

Also, can anyone tell me how to edit texture please? Or point me to a tutorial on texturing and creating custom heads? I tried to use forum search engine and googles but many links are dead already :(

I highly recommend the tutorials on the Harvest Moon/CTP site.
I also recomment GIMP & Paint.net for messing about with textures - both free open-source projects and very powerful.
For searching *this* site, use google, putting a "site:social.bioware.com" in front.  Lightfoot told me that one :-)

Some information on working with uvw unwrap can be found in this thread.

Instead of redirecting you to other forums, here is an example with pictures. It is however for 3ds Max.

UVW Unwrap

Harvest Moon UVW tutorial

If you're lengthening hair, you do have to be careful of clipping issues, and ensuring the dangly mesh moves appropriately.

I'm no modelling expert so I cannot claim this is the best way, or this is of any use, I just know that Zwerkules was on the right path when he pointed you at the T Verts.

And one more on custom heads though this is quite old and the numbering schemes listed therin may no longer be correct: Head hak tutorial

And last but not least a straight up texture tutorial (it's quite old) for photoshop.  Texturing for NWN

Thank you all for your help! I didn't expect to get help from so many people!

I will certainly go through as many as I can, although most of them will probably take me some time to learn. Maybe I should have started with something easier... hmm...

i think the issue here is the automatic vert snap that nwmax makes on export, if thats is so mdlsuite allows to snap without snapping
