I can agree, to some extent, with the "smart" bit, but... immersive? (W)RPGs? The games where (usually) all the NPCs stand in the same spot 24/7 and occasionally an exclamation mark (or similar) appears above them? And then you click on them and they tell you that although you are the Only One who can Save The World and Time Is Running Out, they're hoping you'll have time to collect six pelts from 20 feet away because they're too old/sick/whatever and can't do it themselves? Then you hit them and they go all Lvl 100 Battle Mage on your ass?
Generally speaking, WRPGs tend to offer a lot of player freedom, and the price to be paid for that is immersion. You can't have it both ways. It's smart, or it's immersive, but it's never both. To my mind, it's EA that's catering to the immersion crowd.
