Oh Mass, sometimes you really do make my horrible days more enjoyable.
Yeah, I like developers that actually knows how to design an RPG that doesn't revolve around elves and magic.
All I heard about Skyrim was that it involved a dragon, and that's where I stopped caring.

Biotics are really just space magic, as for elves, watch. Quarians will be a space elve. Mark my words!
Nope. They won't. I've read the script.
At least biotics have some restrictions.
Magic = stuff you can pull out of your ass when it's the most convenient and say that a wizard did it.
But whatever gets you crazy town folks to stop whining about how Mass Effect isn't a "true" ARR PEE GEE.
Mass, I like you, so I'll tell you some things you'd probably like to know, regardless if it changes your opinion of Skyrim or not.
-Elves in Skyrim are almost universally ugly as hell. And it's intentional. I had to search to find one that was fairly pretty.
-I first played a bow/duel sword character, then a Destruction mage. And in Skyrim, magic is definitely underpowered. It lacks the punch of a well-upgraded bow, and the truly decent spells take out the majority of your magicka without doing much damage at all. That magicka is slow to return, and usually means an unarmoured mage scrambling behind cover as fast as he can. Which enemies are rather good at navigating around. Also, most spells require aiming, which enemies love to foil by jumping out of harm's way. Magic has never been as tricky to play, at least in my experience.
-There is no "dragon". Dragons are awakening once more, and that is a factor of the storyline, not the storyline itself. At random, whether you be in an open grassland or a crowded city, a dragon can swoop out of nowheres. They'll skim about over the tops of houses/trees, strafing you and any other creatures that catch your eye. Your only chance for damage is if they get cocky and line up for a direct hit. If you can knock them out of the air, they'll dig a hundreds-foot-long trench, get up and begin stalking you on foot/wing nubs. Standing still in front of a dragon for more than a few seconds involves getting brutally killed via dragon maw in any number of ways. Wing lashings, tail swings and flame/frost breath also factor in here. Your reward for killing a dragon are some bits of its hide and the absorption of its soul, which can be used to unlock the very rare and hard-to-find Shouts (Speaking in the same tongue the dragons use to breathe frost/flame/knock you on your ass). Most of these are quite underpowered and serve as an additional weak spell you can fall back on if things get really tough. Only one of them is truly powerful, and it's quite situational, only usable outside and if enemies stay quite close for quite a while. And its cooldown is massive.
Just thought you might like to know that. I've played a sh!t-ton of fantasy games, and Skyrim is as far from that stereotype as you can get nowadays.

I've actually fallen in love with Skyrim. Which is strange, since I didn't like Oblivion in the least.
^Exactly my thoughts, I really couldn't stand Oblivion (or the fantasy genre at all for that matter).
I wasn't even going to get it until the monday before its release, I couldn't care less, now I've pumped nearly 70 hours of gameplay into it and I'm loving it.

It only takes a couple days to beat Portal 2; it's a really short game (but still awesome).Mr.X.Pen wrote...
Within the 100 day time limit I hope to finish Portal 2, FF13 and Skyrim.

That's probably a downfall, buddy. You should look a little deeper into things are you'll miss a lot.

I know but I'm easily distracted and I'm planning to get a Sims expansion shortly. And with the added replays of other games.Cthulhu42 wrote...

Too bad.
Hey, had it been anything but fantasy or post-apocalyptic, I might have given a damn from the start, because I didn't even bother with Oblivion for the same reason.

Anyways, if I didn't have all these games to play, I would probably go mad without Mass Effect 3.

I have. And New Vegas. Got bored after the Lonesome Road DLC.
That's what disappointed me when I saw RAGE. It was the exact same crap. But with cars that handled about as well as a bathtub with wheels.

I might get it a day before the European release.
Though, I agree that it's a shame that they can't have a simultaneous release date.

I know this doesn't apply to what everyone was talking about but.... I can't stop staring at your avatar... it's amazing... the photoshopped hat is just so..... just so... perfect!
Edit: I'm serious, you can clearly tell it's fake but that's why it's so sweet! pixelly hats ftw!!

EDIT: And with that I mean that it's extremely sloppy made. Could've been a lot better. But I have played 50+ hours in 5 days so. I still like it. But I still think ME is better.

I don't bother with magic in Skyrim. I'm just not good at it. I end up running like a scared child, especially when a two-hander comes along. The only good shouts are unrelenting force (saved me many a time) and whirlwind sprint, and the latter only for locomotion (mind, I've found only six or seven). There are ridiculous restrictions on special abilities, and if you indulge in overspecialisation, the game will punish you for it.
I'd say biotics = space magic is accurate.
Storm Call is exactly what it sounds like in appearance and magnetic. Needless to say, summoning a lightning storm is the most OP of the Shouts. And it's still not a *complete* Kill-All.

That's funny, because it took me about fifteen seconds to do that in Paint.
