Bored and haven't seen a thread like this on BW for quite awhile. So I'm going to ramble abit about my favorite ME VAs. It was quite hard coming up with my top 5 to be honest, since the ME voice cast have been mostly amazing.

5. Steven Barr (Urdnot Wrex)
Because Wrex just wouldn't have been as badass if he sounded like Grunt. I'm just curious if his real voice is that deep.

4. Jane Singer (Mama Shepard, Helena Blake, Erinya)
Underrated and not often noticed. Her voice is kinda like a 'coke-light' version of Judi Dench's. Regal and soothing.

3. Ash Sroka (Tali'Zorah, Lia'Vael <- I speculate)
Talimancers are dumb. Tali has done a couple of dumb things herself. But the voice behind the character? Awesome and very unique. Not withstanding one small part where she struggled to maintain her accent (the QQ moment with Rael) I consider her the 'mascot' for ME, as far as voice acting is concerned. Her and Jennifer Hale.

2. Gwendoline Yeo (Shiala, Sha'ira, Captain Wasea)
PULPY MASS! I don't know why I love Gwendoline's voice so much. Maybe its the exotic Asian-American accent mixture. Or her occasional tendency to stutter her delivery like Shatner or Christopher Walken. Her voice was the primary reason that made her Asari characters memorable, and I do hope they get ample screentime in ME3. Her voice work was also one of the few things that made FFX-2 tolerable. (yes I played that sick game and had to go for testosterone jabs after finishing it).

1. Claudia Black (Daro'Xen, Matriarch Aethyta)
The sexiest female voice in videogames. Switches between American and Aussie accents perfectly. Phrases like "childhood toy" and "spank the blue out of my ass" just wouldn't have the same effect if voiced by someone else. Personally I wished she was the VA for Samara, not that her actual VA was anything bad.

Special mention
- Cindy Robinson (Detective Anaya, Jentha, Diana (Mother of Morinth's victim))
For versatility mostly. Never realized she was VA for these characters because they sounded very different.
- Robin Sachs (Zaeed)
"Sonova ****, move!" and "Big Goddamn Heroes" gets me everytime.
- Dave Fennoy (Warlord Okeer, Ronald Taylor)
Another versatile VA. His "Jamaican" accent is his trademark and easily recognizable if you played recent Blizzard games (He voiced Gabriel Tosh in SC2 and most NPC trolls in World of Warcraft).

So who are your favourite VAs?

Mark Meer:
Two lines that sold him for ME1.
- 'She's surrounded by geth and pointing a gun at us! SHOOT HER!
- 'Whoops!' :D
ME2.
- 'I'm sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you. Gettin' alotta Bull-sh!t on this line.'
- 'Go to hell! I'll send you there myself.'

5) Claudia Black (rachni envoy, Daro'Xen, matriarch Aethyta)
If I hadn't seen her as marked as VA for all this roles I'd never guessed. I love how all these three ladies are voiced (especially Space Morrigan, I won't lie), and I love the fact they all sound very differently.

4) Tricia Helfer (EDI)
Emotions and AI. It's strange to see this things together and even stranger to hear. "I enjoy the sight of humans on their knees" is one of the best lines in series; the shift from her distant mechanical tone to "Jeff" in the end is just charming.

3) Raphael Sbarge (Kaidan Alenko)
I was very surprised to find out how much meaning can be added just by tactical disposal of pauses - heard his reading of Horizon letter?

2) Yvonne Strahovski (Miranda Lawson)
The widest and wildest range of emotions - from icy cold "not even remotely" to rather playful "I think you deserve to know". The best battle cries in game. And just very pleasant voice :)

1) Mark Meer (broShep, Niftu Cal the Biotic God, random mercs, vorcha, s***load of placeholders)
The list of roles speaks for itself. Damn, I want entire game voiced by this guy :)

Maybe I'm in the minority but I personally found Meer's voice work bland as hell, especially when compared to Jennifer Hale's. He improved somewhat in ME2 and had better delivery for the renegade dialogue, but still...he was cringeworthy at many parts.

his work on other characters more then makes up for it.

biotic god conversation alone makes up for it, and then there's the vorcha who knows all the tricks.

Jennifer Hale, hands down, for reasons that should be obvious to everyone, she is the best thing ever to happen to Mass Effect.

Michael Beattie. Mordin was so much fun to talk to. Awesome subtle changes in his tone when he is upset when discussing the Collectors, or franticly analyses the current situation, confronts his student Maelon. Made his hyperactive preformance so believable and in character, I absolutely loved listening to him!

Samara. I absolutely loved her calm, stoic demeanour. Maggie Baird did wonderful job however with scenes that required more emotion; such as explaining to Shepard the criminal she is after is her daughter and Ardat Yakshi, the aftermath of killing Morinth, or her what I see as best moment - rejection of Shepard. That "excuse me" conveyed magnitude of affection and I spend 15 minutes wondering why she really did it.

Aria. I really think Carrie pulled it off great. Aria is an alpha of the Omega and when she was telling me not to fu*k with her, I believed her. I respected her.

Jennifer Hale : I can't even imagine FemShep without her. Tough, Strong, Capable.

Seth Green : His work made me love Joker as much as I do (basically, a lot), he's the absolute best NPC in the games for me.

Brandon Keener : I haven't even heard of him before the game, but now there is no Garrus without him, and I was amazed how well he communicated Garrus' emotions in ME2.

Tricia Helfer : EDI was my favourite new addition to the game, and Ms. Helfer had a lot to do with it. She really brought EDI to life.

Ali Hillis : To be honest, I didn't care for Liara in the first game at all. But those brief talks in ME2, and the dialogues in the Shadow Broker DLC made me change my mind. Ali Hillis did an amazing job at communicating Liara's emotions: relief, anger, doubt, everything.

I would also mention : Keith David's work as Anderson, Steven Barr as Wrex and Martin Sheen as T.I.M

Jennifer Hale (no question there)
Brandon Keener & Courtney Taylor (because they brought my favorite two characters, Garrus and Jack, to life)
Seth Green and Martin Sheen (such a great choice for TIM) mostly because I can not imagine the game without them anymore.

They're not changing any of the VA's for ME3 are they?

(1) Claudia Black - because everyone she voices makes me shiver.
(2) Courtenay Taylor - Jack's not my favorite, but Taylor makes her jump out of the screen
(3) Yvonne Strahovski - because she captured Miranda's wildly different character aspects.
(4) Martin Sheen - because his voice carries the Illusive Man's charisma.
(5) Jennifer Hale - because femShep wouldn't be the same without her.

... and that's why I need to buy english ME. I hate that german cast got replaced between ME -> ME2. No one sounds the same. Old Ashley's voice was superb, new is ... meh. God thanks Joker is still the same.

Does anyone hate it to if a beloved VA gets replaced? I mean, a character's voice defines that character ...

You should peek into the Mordin fan threads and say hello.

Arcian, Demonique - I know. Same deal here. But at least most of the cast stays the same while in Germany almost the entire cast got replaced between ME and ME2 and it's not unlikely they'll change between ME2 and ME3 as well.

It's just awful.

5. Martin Sheen - he does the Illusive Man very well. Just has that evil voice I suppose. haha
4. Michael Beattie - Seriously, amazing job with Mordin.
3. Claudia Black - I just lover her accent! <3
2. Seth Green - As much of an ass as Joker is... Seth Green makes it convincing. PERFECT choice for that character.
1. Kimberly Brooks - I've always said Ashley is the most "real" character out of the squadmates and Brooks' voice is a big part of that. Really brings her to life.

I honestly think that the problem with M!Shep's occassional "blandness" is bad voice direction. Meer has range. He can emote. He's played quite a few different roles; off the top of my head: Captain of the Rayya, Blasto and most (if not all) of the hanar, the vorcha, Biotic God and a few other volus, and the turian shopkeeper. (Jethann from DA2 gets an honorable mention.) I also really love how he handled renegade M!Shep.

Anyway, my favorites:

Mark Meer
Kimberly Brooks
Michael Beattie

Easier to spot the bad Voice Actor, they are all deserving of praise.
