-- Hillis: worst one, IMO. Very flat and lacks feeling, really made ME2 ruthless-Liara a complete joke. Must run in her "family" because Benezia fighting indoctrination was the worst VA moment in the game. Can't even pronounce asari things right like "Azure" or "Vaenia."

-- ME2 Hale: not sure about paragon femshep, but her renegade was a joke. She was way too soft and even whispered lines that required force/intimidation. Not like she can't do it, she goes wild in melee-combat, and she was great in ME1 as well. What happened here? Singlehandedly ruined Jacob for many femshep players as well.

-- Helfer: overly emotional AI, I also heard very palpable breathing in her lines too and I don't even pay attention for those kinds of things.

You don't like the sound of Jennifer Hale whispering. Or Tricia Helfer breathing. Or Ali Hillis saying anything.

Time to come out of the closet man.

What if he is a she? Assumption is the mother of all f*ck ups. :?

Most of them are good, but in order of faves:

1) Keythe Farley
2) Michael Beattie
3) Jennifer Hale
4) Raphael Sbarge

Keith David is also terrific, although I always hear the Arbiter saying "Were it so easy".

Claudia Black is always brilliant in everything she does.

I would need a list of 20 people to name all of them.
But I would say Claudia Black (Aethyta) and Robin Sachs (Zaeed) are outstanding.
I mean, they could talk about the weather and it would be the most badass dialogue of all time.

Badass is not the goal, intimidation is.

When your lines are borderline inaudible and require subtitles to comprehend, I think it's fair to say that intimidation is lost.

But with you, I'll make an exception.

And yet, this post is more coercive than her ME2 Intimidate dialogue.

I see your post and raise you this: I appreciate Natalia Cigliuti's whispering, breathing, and saying everything. And for that matter, Courtenay Taylor as Jack too.

What's closet about not liking raspy voices anyway? I actually like Hale and Helfer's voices a lot, but ME2 was NOT a good performance for Hale IMO, and Helfer got carried away with EDI. An AI should not breathe anyway.

It's a shame Zaeed was only DLC and will have a very small role in ME3. :(

Kimberly Brooks as Ashley is my top on the list. She can do so many things with so little. There's always something extra in her performance, something added that you can infer just from the inflection in her voice. And she has an amazing sense of vulnerability when she wants to.

Courtney Taylor is similar to that as Jack. I adore her. Besides her amazing performance she is also just really cool. She seems like a fantastic person in real life too.

I think Mark Meer is under appreciated. I think he's exactly what Man!Shep should sound like. Gruff and even toned, deadpanned when appropriate with the occasional emotional break. It's perfect. He's perfect. lol

Those are my top 3. I also love Jennifer Hale (who doesn't?) Raphael Sbarge as Kaidan (omg seriously the effect of his voice on women should be studied in labs).

All of them are great though. I really can't think of anyone who was BAD in Mass Effect 1 or 2.

Hehe! lol. Badpie. I have to give points to the guy who voiced Conrad Verner though. He's so annoying, yes so cute at the same time.

That dude is awesome in that every time he talks he makes me feel like I've been touched inappropriately. Hehe.

And Reed, it's a combination of the voice and face for Sheploo.  The face would be nothing without Meer's voice.  *nods*

I was a fan of Keith David, Lance Henriksen, and Kimberly Brooks before Mass Effect, so naturally I enjoyed their contributions.  Raphael Sbarge I didn't know at first (although apparently I'd seen him before), but I enjoyed his performance.

... and now I have the irrational notion that Mass Effect needs more Brian Blessed.

Truthfully, I wasn't keen on default Shepard's face when I first started to play, but I grew to like it - especially with the glowy scars (played ME2 first). A few lines I thought were a bit off, but the one that I just adored was 'She's surrounded by Geth and pointing a gun at us! SHOOT HER!!' on Noveria. The delivery was just hilarious, so frustrated and angry. Lol.

Can't even let me make a joke, can ya? :pinched:

lol

Now, I can't imagine Dude!Shepard with any other voice, but at first I thought it sounded soooo wrong. And I still think he's too monotone. That's why I think Hale does a better job.

Ha!  I am confident everyone in the Kaidan thread would volunteer for those experiments.

I'm a Sbarge fan.  And I think Courtenay Taylor did a great job as Jack.
I was underwhelmed by Tali's VA, until I discovered the "Abrasive Tali" comics, and now everything she says is just soo much better.

Hey Bioware I know it may not be entirely your fault for replacing Mordin's voice actor, but could you make up for it by getting the other actors more "emotional" before major scene or whatever? They're great dont get me wrong, but some parts like when Ashley/Kaiden died or if a teammate was killed in ME2 it didnt seem anyone really noticed or cared. xP

Ken Levine's method comes to mind though xD -

Not to sound biased, but Ash Sroka`s VA is incredibly good, IMO the best. That says a lot because I don`t consider many characters to have less than good VA.

They're all pretty good, but:
Ash Sroka
Claudia Black
Michael Beattie

Also, special mention goes to Michael Dorn and Dwight Schultz, just because no one had mentioned them (every time in ME1 the computer says "XO Pressly has the deck" I just go "holy ****, we just put Howling Mad Murdock in charge! Abandon Ship!")

Y U NO YVONNE STRAHOVSKI?!

Some of her injury cries sound like sexually arousing moans.

No, really. Listen to her getting shot and tell me it doesn't sound like she likes it.

And a special mention for Jennifer Hale in the original Mass Effect. I liked the smoother, unafraid-to-be-less-than-totally-hardcore voice that femShep had in the first game.

The award for best VA easily goes to Liz Sroka. One of the characters with the most dynamic emotional range, and she doesn't even have a face for support. Subtle, unappreciated voice acting techniques, like her voice cracking just slightly when expressing how she can't let her father become a monster, pushes her over the top.

Michael Beattie comes in a close second though. To nail all his emotions so convincingly while stating likes like, 10 times as fast as anyone else, is an incredible accomplishment. Imagine what the frak he was thinking when the directors told him, "Okay Beattie, now we need this line to be contemplative, sad, and brooding...oh, and you have 2 seconds to deliver this line."

Michael Beattie

Hyperactive, socially awkward, borderline insane, logical, understanding, quick talking science loving Mordin... Legend.

And Keith David.

Jennifer Hale (no question there)
Brandon Keener & Courtney Taylor (because they brought my favorite two characters, Garrus and Jack, to life)
Seth Green and Martin Sheen (such a great choice for TIM) mostly because I can not imagine the game without them anymore.

They're not changing any of the VA's for ME3 are they?

This.

I would say Tricia Helfer as EDI, but some of her lines ar just wonky, although I'm sure that has to do with the editing, not her voice acting.

I totally agree about Claudia Black/Aethyta and I love Martin Sheen but then I've been a long-time fan. A lot of the VA in ME is top notch.
