Spectre Shepard doesn't really need Alliance rank. Renegade Shepard would only be satisfied with Emperor.

Shepard will be retired somehow. Possibilities:
* Councilor Shepard
* Go into politics
* Get a nice fat SPECTRE retirement package with full benefits, and retire somewhere on Earth up to a cabin with a beautiful view on a lakeshore with the LI and go fishing and drink beer.

I think Shepard deserves to be promoted. I mean, he HAS saved the galaxy twice already and it could be 3 times by the end of ME3.

I believe Shepard isn't going to be a a General/Admiral/Supreme commander or the like, rather be inspiration for the cause. A symbol of hope, the light at the end of the tunnel... if you get my drift.

But also just to add after the victory Shepard me get an honorary rank and rewards. Kinda like the French and their Field Marshal. Which by the way Field Marshal is just a statement not a actual rank in France.
