If you want kids, Tali isn't your choice. That is even if Shepard can have kids, although you could adopt. I'm sure there will a lot of orphans after the war.

Tali. She may live in an icky poop-containment suit, but at least she didn't murder Wrex.

OOOH. This is a good point. Wrex is my favorite character.

DECISION MADE.

Murder Wrex? I would call it defending Shepard. Wrex was ready to blow your head off with a shotgun.

But he didn't. 'Cause he's a bro. Unlike Ashley. She's an awkward aquaintance at best after all that goes on.

But I'll still let her eat all the good food every morning out of the mess fridge when she gets up before me. Because I'm cool.

Well OP that's a pretty decent description of Tali and Ash's good/bad points, but I think you may be over-thinking it. For the romances you should really use your feelings more than your logic. Go with who feels right (more compatible personality, physical appearance, similar beliefs, etc.). That's what I do anyway. I'm not gonna romance someone because it was the right tactical decision or anything.

In addition the games have amazing replay value, so you'd kind of be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't play through a second time and try the other romance.

Good luck.

well i will do this i have the same problem that u have, 1º have ash from me asl li, then go the romantic side for tali in me2 till the point when u say to wait but not reject her, she will say something about "at least you dont say no...... well finish me2 with shplo seeing the ash photo, then save...
use that save to import to me3, when u finish the3 first one or when u have the data imported and a save made, go back to that save on me2 go talk to tali and finish the romance, the next time u jump from a mass relay you will have tali going to u, then do another save and import that new one, and there u go same shplo same choice diferent li without doing all me and me2 and 2 save games with them, of course always do a back up of the saves first ^^

This miiight belong in another forum, but because it's very heavily based on 3 and decisions going into it, I'm putting it here and accepting it might get moved.

So here's my problem, and one I hope you guys can help with. I got ME1 and ME2 during the Steam Autumn Sale for the PC, so that I can get 3 on PC and have my save files. I've beaten each Mass Effect game multiple times on the 360 [ten times ME1, six times ME2] and so I know the details and what not, but I'm still torn regarding my choice of romantic interest, in part due to some questions that won't be answered until 3. The thing is, it's stuff you guys might be able to answer, and even just input from fans is really helpful, so here goes.

First off, I've already narrowed it down to between Tali and Ashley.  Miranda, Liara, and Jack fans, I totally get you, they're cool characters, but they're not my Shepard's type romantically. So we're just setting them aside.

Secondly, SPOILERS ABOUND for ME1 and ME2, so there's your warning there. Here's my problem.

Ashley Williams

General Opinion: Strong, decisive, independent woman. Owns up quickly to mistakes. Selfless and reliable, but occasionally temperamental and very stubborn.

*snip*

Tali'Zorah Vas Normandy

General Opinion: Socially awkward but intelligent, playful woman. Exotic nature as Quarian both creates interesting dilemmas and situations. Occasionally stubborn and slightly obsessive.

*snip*

So anyway, that's where I am. Arguments, inputs, solutions, I welcome it all because I'm tearing my hair out over this.

Go for the girl you like more.

Keep in mind that Ash lashed against Shepard because Shepard never explained why he was working for Cerberus. No, he even tried to recruit her (= suggested betrayal to Alliance!) and that made her mad. 'nuff said. I bet things will get cleared up in ME3.
You should keep Ashley in one playthrough.

Tali on the other side is a "fresh" LI in ME2. She'll be permanent member of your crew in ME3. If you like her and don't feel good about Ashley, go for her. You can have a second playthrough with her as LI.

So it's still up to you. If you love a steamy relationship with some hardships you can solve by good actions, go for Ashley. If you like a more calm relationship, go for Tali.

By the way, can help you with my own decision: I stay loyal to Ashley. I'm a loyal dude, even if it's a bit hard to disappoint Tali. But you have to do such decisions in R/L as well and I even HAD to do a decision once. All you need is to pick the character you care more for and not because of game mechanics or "fanservice" or whatnot. If you love Ashley more than Tali, stay with her, if it's the other way around, pick Tali.

Ah yes - the Wrex issue. Did you headcanon!Ashley shot Wrex on Virmire? If no, why punishing her for something she did in a different universe?

I don't punish her for it, it's just a good example of her potential instability I'm acknowledging from a player perspective, not my Shepard's perspective.

Your asking us to choose your head canon. That's just not possible.

Both Ashley and Tali are awesome in very different ways. Depends on what your Shepard likes.

Ashley is head strong and frustrating sometimes but she is also a woman who always tries to do the right thing. She values family and friends and demands a lot of respect. She's a challenge for Shepard, sometimes when he needs it most. She teases Shepard about mushy stuff but can be very vulnerable herself if Shepard has taken the time to get to know her.

Tali in ME1 was smart and strong and loyal to her people. The ME2 romance was a bit of fan service imo and I felt like Tali lost a little bit of herself. I found the romance to be a little bit of hero worship on her part in a way, which was strange for me since I'd always kind of seen her as a little sister type. It works for a lot of folks though.

Like I said it's just what you want and who your Shepard is.

ACTUALLY, he didn't b/c either... shepard leveled up his speech skill and talked him down OR Ashley protected her commander and possible lover from being killed.

How is protecting her commander from being killed a sign of instability? It's not like everyone was paling around and she just went off and shot someone. <_<

Wrex and I's conversation was going perfectly well. Frankly, considering how calm he was due to my paragon score and having done his mission, the only out of character thing was him drawing a gun, it didn't suit his demeanor.

Also, Wrex is the calmest individual on the entire ship, his temper is absolutely remarkable, especially for a Krogan. Ashley was being pretty racist in assuming he'd snap off just because he was a Krogan and drew a gun.

You know, I am currently working on a playthrough were I romance both.

Really in-depth analysis, OP, and I can really see where you're coming from, but why not do both and let how things play out in ME3 decide who you stick with? It's possible to be in love with more than one person, and actively having to choose between the two in the final installment could make for some seriously heavy moments.

She only shoots him when he goes off the handle... (aka when you fail the speech check and don't choose to shoot him yourself.)

Sorry, she isn't being racist and shooting him b/c he's a krogan.

Exactly. Ashley was about to trust the aliens on board of the Normandy, that also includes Wrex. If Shepard can't talk some sense into Wrex' mind, she has to shoot him - or Wrex would kill Shepard.

She didn't shot Wrex because he's a Krogan, but because he was about to kill her superior officer. Which is, in my eyes, a valid reason.

I once had difficulty choosing between Ashley and Tali. In the end, I chose Tali. Ashley just works better for me as the best friend for my canon Shepard.

Funny, I could say the same, but the other way around. Tali is more a friend or little sister to Shepard, Ashley is Shepard's love. I even have some stuff in my headcanon that shows Tali is one of Ashley's best friends and they're talking a lot about Shepard. Girly talk. ;)

Also, perhaps I'm misremembering, but don't you tell her to be ready in case you can't calm Wrex down? I remember my Shepard being pretty pragmatic about the whole thing - "I'm going to talk to him, but be prepared in case things go bad.' And Ashley wasn't the only one in that scene worried about Wrex's temper, or what he might do. It hardly seems fair to single her out just because she's the one that actually takes the shot if things go badly.

^ Exactly. It was Shepard who told her to keep an eye on Wrex in case he becomes a threat.

Ashley was following orders.
