So Ash acting under Shepard's instructions to keep an eye on Wrex and then shooting him when the conversation checks have failed and he can no longer be talked down is now a sign of either inbuilt racism or that she's unstable.

I've come to terms with some people on this site not understanding her character, but now it seems that its moved into creating false reasoning to justify that misunderstanding, i'd say replay the scene again but its probably pointless since they completely misunderstood it in the first place.

Okay, okay, I concede. She's not racist or unstable. I was wrong.

You guys made good points.

I think I'll go with Tali, I started up my playthrough and I think she suits my Shepard's mentality better.

Thanks for all the help, errybody.

You're welcome.

May your Shepard stay loyal to the one he loves. Tali deserves him as well as any other LI, but she's your (Shepard's) pick. ^^

It wasn't so much you i was speaking about, so hopefully you didn't take it that way, its more a general feeling that in order to make Ash the bad guy people ignore the situation or turn the situations into something it's not.

For me Ash is no more racist than Wrex or Grunt or many other characters, they have reasons why they dislike certain other races and its only if you analyse the reasons and find fault in them that you can consider them racist imo.

Being distrustful to a race that you have bad experiences with while technically racism is also pragmatism, but when its Ash who expresses this its called racism or xenophobia, yet when other characters do the same thing they get a free pass.

Listening to Grunt describe in detail how he'd kill certain races or listening to Mordin justifying the genophage is more racist than anything Ash says imo, yet both of these get a pass because to some they're more likeable characters.

As for instability, again imo if a characters actions can be logically explained then they're not being unstable, its only when they do something with no explanation or none that makes sense.

Take Wrex for example, his shooting of fist is a bigger reason to be worried about whether or not you can trust him, but its a completely explainable action so he gets a pass, so that same logic should be applied to Ash in terms of her actions, but because she's less likeable to some than Wrex it isn't.

As for picking Tali, if you believe she suits your shepard better then she's the only logical and therefore right choice for you to make, so as long as your happy with it, that's what's important since its your playthrough.

I am having the same dilemma with them two. Dang you, Bioware! (In a good way, of course)

Hmm, pick the one you like a tad more. As said before, Ashley's relationship will be far more steamy and more ups and downs than Tali's, but it's your choice. Whatever you want or enjoy more, take your pick.

Williams already betrayed you once. What's to say she won't do it again? She doesn't see you for two years and then calls you a traitor to your face. That was a deal breaker for me. In contrast, Tali stood by you and she has even more reason to be hostile to Cerberus than Williams. Out of the two LI choices you present, I would take Tali every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I once had difficulty choosing between Ashley and Tali. In the end, I chose Tali. Ashley just works better for me as the best friend for my canon Shepard.

Funny, I could say the same, but the other way around. Tali is more a friend or little sister to Shepard, Ashley is Shepard's love. I even have some stuff in my headcanon that shows Tali is one of Ashley's best friends and they're talking a lot about Shepard. Girly talk. ;)

That's my headcanon as well. lol

Betwen Ash and Tali, I'll say Ash.

- She is a woman, not a girl (this is the main reason why she and Miranda are my only LIs).
- Shepard and Ash have some common things (both are Alliance, trained on Titan, same instructor).
- Even if you discuss with her in Horizon, it could be worthy (wait for the make up sex xD).
- And... She is a wildcat outside the battlefield too.

Tali is 24 in ME2. Shepard is 29 (biologically speaking). Just saying.

I honestly have a difficult time wrapping my head around this whole "shes just a young girl" concept. From the first game in the series, she starts out in her early twenties and by the timeline of the third [Tali] is in her mid twenties, and only a few years apart from Ash. The only way I could agree is that she may not be as emotionally mature/experienced because of her situation with her species and all, but at the same time she seems remarkably selfless and mature in other aspects of her character.

I'll admit, I did go for Ash the first time I played the game in '07, because I wanted to see all of this horrendous side-boob that the news stations were complaining about. I just wasn't really ready to pull a Captain Kirk, if you know what I mean. Eventually the over-the-top snarky commentary ("nice lake, wonder if anyone drowned in it") and my own aversion to fraternization from a previous line of work caused me to choose differently in other playthroughs.

OP, I'm curious as to why you're asking others about this sort of thing (if you're serious). Sure they may be completely fictionalized characters, but it's still more a matter of personal opinion. To put it in a real life context, it's like asking a coworker/friend about who you should ask on a date; the nutty sardonic secretary that works down the hall or the bookish librarian down the street. Who cares what someone elses opinion is, go for whatever suits your own interests/emotions/brainchemistry.

I wanted the Paramour achievement in ME 2, but I (the player) can't bring myself to be unfaithful. I ended up romancing Tali by "romancing" Ashley, then allowing her to be Virmired. I got the Achievement, and was not unfaithful, and won't have the love triangle problem that Bioware already stated would happen. Also, got some interesting (and different) gameplay, since the lovescenes don't play.

MAY start another playthru with an Ashley Romance, just to see what the LI-Loyalty reward will be from that side.... But not gauranteed. In MY canon, Shepard is Female, and smitten by Kaidan at first sight.

EDIT:  Tali's "Childish" appearance to some people most likely comes from the fact that she's on her Pilgramage when first met (Coming of Age Ritual).

Well, Unschuld, I've said this multiple times but with due respect I don't think anyone's actually listened yet.

I wasn't asking for people's opinions on who was better, but their opinions on my arguments for each. I was trying to get information from people who either knew the leaks or just played a lot about how legitimate my concerns seemed.

I wasn't asking "who is better", I was asking "Can I bounce my logic for why I like each".

Well to be honest, that's what the thread sort of devolved into, and the title is a bit ambiguous. You still seem to be asking for what sounds like an arguement of opinions, if not for us to be analysing your opinions and tell you if they're right or wrong. Are you trying to make a logical decision based on what will give you the best possible end game content? Also subject to opinion. I can't see a "logically" best choice in that matter, because again, everyone will have a different opinion in the end.

The leaks are a jumbled, incomplete mash of crap. I don't say this in the respect that "omg ME3 is ruined and has a terrible story!!11!eleven!", but that there is no sensible order to where things are placed. Even searching around is still a bit painful, though the one I peeked a while back was the "old" one. No romance info beyond a single line that really had no description whatsoever. It was obviously unfinished, old data that wasn't completely fleshed out.

My opinion on your character analysis: mostly accurate, I guess. I have a slightly different view. It's still based on your perception however, and my views really have no bearing in terms of saying your opinion is solidly correct or incorrect. I don't know exactly how you think in relation to myself so I can't really give you a concrete answer. Too many variables. Too many variables.

Just have fun with the game when you get it, make the decisions based as you would yourself in the heat of the moment, and enjoy being surprised whatever the consequence. Don't just try to generalize your paramour choice into a logical equation, that takes the fun out of it.

To put it in a shorter answer; For me to make a judgments as
to why you like or why you should choose who or which is more logical for you
would require me to know what past influences and personal experiences you had
that caused you to make those judgments. This is something I am in no position
to and no desire to (no offence intended), because I am not a/your
psychologist. All I can advise is not to tear your hair out about the whole
thing.

Yeah. I appreciate it, but I already picked. Someone told me "just relax and play the game" and that's what I'm doing.
